Whether human or vampire, both possessed an innate, untrained understanding of food and water.

Ye Qing stared at the bottle of water for three seconds, then his expression suddenly changed.

Even through a barrier, Li Yuebai was startled by his appearance and gasped.

It was all too familiar. When Ye Qing first became a vampire, the very first second he stared at him with those same eyes. Of course, Ye Qing had managed to hold back and not actually devour him.

But this time, with a bottle of water, there was no need to hold back.

Li Yuebai held his breath and watched as Ye Qing finally did what he had to do— open the bottle cap and bring the bottle to his lips— damn it, how did this kid manage to hold back? Why was he so restrained? If it were him, he would probably have chewed the bottle to pieces by now, right? Even though he was dying of thirst, his movements were as serious as ever— his pale fingers firmly gripped the bottle, the lines of his chin were beautiful when he raised it, his chest rose and fell rhythmically, and even his breathing was perfectly steady.

As Ye Qing finished the last drop of water, a change seemed to occur— his skin, which had been covered in terrifying, crisscrossing cracks, miraculously began to disappear little by little, until it was smooth as before. His previously tired and anxious expression also vanished.

Li Yuebai finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The water worked; that was wonderful.

This bottle of water given to Ye Qing was, of course, more than just water.

It contained extra Vila’s blood.

Previously, Liang Jing had given a rough ratio— the concentration of substance X in Vila’s blood was a thousand times that of human blood.

In other words, Vila’s blood diluted a thousand times had the same effect as human blood.

In other words, the “substitute for human blood” that Liang Jing had been researching might be able to be achieved with Vila’s blood diluted a thousand times.

Li Yuebai wasn’t sure how credible this ratio was, but in the end, he decided to give it a try.

The Seven Star Tower was the final battle; Ye Qing would definitely come.

One bottle of water was 500 ml, one drop of blood was 0.05 ml, so adding ten drops of blood to one bottle of water was just right.

He obtained the bottled water on his way to the Seven Star Tower. There were two bottles in total. He pricked his finger, dripped some blood into them, shook them, and for a moment felt like a father preparing formula for a newborn baby.

Upon arriving at the Seven Star Tower, Li Yuebai hesitated before entering. Ye Qing certainly hadn’t arrived yet, and he didn’t know what dangers he might encounter inside, or he might not even see him. So, he decided to leave the bottles at the entrance.

After weighing the pros and cons, Li Yuebai chose a compromise— carrying one bottle with him and hiding the other in the pile of rocks outside the entrance. This way, whether he saw Ye Qing or not, he would have a chance to give him water.

Even delivering a bottle of water required such a lot of effort; Li Yuebai increasingly felt that the vampire world was too difficult.

Fortunately, after all this trouble, he had finally achieved a partial success.

Li Yuebai was very grateful; if he had been any later, Ye Qing might have become something else entirely.

Ye Qing, on the other side of the barrier, put down the empty bottle, steadied himself, and looked with his clear eyes at the spot in the air— the place where the feather and letter had floated out. He was now certain that there was a passage there leading to Li Yuebai’s world, but he didn’t know how to open it.

If all else failed, he would have to try brute force.

Since Li Yuebai could throw the letter out to him, it meant that Li Yuebai could see him, and his actions wouldn’t hurt him.

He made a gesture towards that spot and then drew his gun.

“Hey…” Li Yuebai saw him pointing the gun at him through the barrier and instinctively dodged.

After dodging for a while, he went back to check, but nothing had happened.

Ye Qing had fired a shot at that spot, but the bullet simply passed through the air, through the window, and disappeared into the night sky.

No, it was completely unreachable.

The barrier could only be destroyed from the inside; those outside could do nothing— this thought flashed through his mind again.

Li Yuebai couldn’t help but smile bitterly. Sure enough, the system hadn’t lied; this statement was correct.

Inside the barrier, only he remained; only he could destroy it. Ye Qing couldn’t help.

But how?

A low laugh echoed behind him again, mingling with the sound of sand condensing.

Li Yuebai whirled around, and sure enough, he saw Gao Chengyu’s phantom again.

“Truly touching,” Gao Chengyu chuckled. “But have you already forgotten everything you just saw?”

In an instant, all the phantoms he’d witnessed on the seventh floor flooded back— how Ye Qing had become a vampire, how he’d killed the little girl named Xiao Wan, how he’d drunk the blood of countless people…

The person you valued has become like this; and the responsibility lies entirely with you.” Gao Chengyu approached step by step, a formulaic smile on his face, but his words pierced Li Yuebai’s heart like sharp swords: “Always claiming to be a defender of justice, yet causing the deaths of so many innocent people… Gu Xisha, what difference is there between you and me now?”

He had to admit, this was Li Yuebai’s Achilles’ heel.

No matter how many times it was stabbed, he wouldn’t become numb; the pain would be overwhelming.

Li Yuebai had always been an overly soft-hearted person, and his greatest fear was that tragedy would come true. But now, he had personally caused countless deaths, a fact he simply couldn’t accept.

Gu Xisha felt the same way.

Memories of his previous life flashed vividly through his mind once more.

In his previous life, Gu Xisha had also fallen into Gao Chengyu’s hands because he had been exploited in the same way.

The entanglement between Gu Xisha and the original owner of Ye Qing’s body was somewhat complicated— Ye Qing had a tendency towards depression, which Gu Xisha keenly noticed. So he kept a close watch on him to prevent him from committing suicide, but this strictness only created pressure, causing Ye Qing’s mood to plummet. Under this pressure, Ye Qing insisted on participating in the Yongfeng Company’s mission, using this method to escape Gu Xisha— and as a result, he was possessed by a dormant entity during the mission, becoming a vampire.

After that, Gu Xisha, of course, couldn’t bear to kill Ye Qing. So he simply tried to find him and get close to him— however, this approach also triggered a new tragedy— Ye Qing was tormented by his vampire instincts, desperately wanting to drink Gu Xisha’s blood, yet he always forced himself to endure it. Finally, on one occasion, Ye Qing could no longer bear it and drank the blood of an innocent girl in front of Gu Xisha, causing her death.

Although, strictly speaking, Gu Xisha bore no responsibility for the whole incident, he was always the kind of person who unconsciously took the blame upon himself. Like Li Yuebai now, Gu Xisha was also trapped in inescapable guilt.

Gao Chengyu was equally aware of this— he always knew his enemies’ weaknesses perfectly well.

So, when Gao Chengyu came to seek revenge on Gu Xisha, he repeatedly used various methods to deepen Gu Xisha’s guilt and pain, disrupting his mind. Under such despicable tactics, Gu Xisha finally lost the ability to concentrate on resisting and was dragged into an abyss of endless despair.

This was what was called destroying the spirit.

Now, everything was repeating itself.

Even more so, Li Yuebai’s pain was even deeper than Gu Xisha’s— wasn’t he supposed to change everything and save the original owner of this world after transmigrating? Why had all his efforts been in vain? Why, after fighting with all his might, had his current situation become even worse than the original owner’s?

“You have already lost.” Gao Chengyu’s expression was almost pitiful: “From the moment you decided to become a foolish good person, you had already lost. Only good people use many restrictions to bind themselves, only they weep and wail over unavoidable killing. And a good person who has done wrong has no chance of winning.”

In a sense, this statement was true.

Because he loathed evil and killing, he was in such agony.

If he were like Gao Chengyu, accepting evil and killing as part of himself, he wouldn’t be in pain; he would be smug.

But this was something he couldn’t control…

Gao Chengyu smiled, waved his hand, and pushed Ye Qing’s phantom in front of Li Yuebai again.

“Shoot,” his voice was seductive. “Just shatter this phantom, and all your pain will disappear… You have no other way to escape the barrier anyway, so why not just surrender?”

Li Yuebai felt his whole body trembling.

He could no longer control his hands, which trembled as he pulled out his gun and aimed it at Ye Qing’s phantom.

Just pull the trigger, and all the torment would end.

He and Ye Qing had already committed countless evil deeds; why hadn’t it ended?

Li Yuebai turned back one last time and glanced at Ye Qing in the real world through the barrier.

He was still alright.

“I…” Li Yuebai turned his face back, closed his eyes to compose himself, then reopened them, moving the gun away from Ye Qing’s phantom and aiming it at Gao Chengyu’s phantom: “Sorry, I won’t shoot.”

“So you want to slowly die in this barrier?” Gao Chengyu laughed.

“No.” Li Yuebai shook his head: “Impossible.”

“Hmm?”

“Because I already know how to destroy the barrier.” Li Yuebai said, enunciating each word clearly.

“No one told you, how could you possibly know?” Gao Chengyu sneered.

“Your scheme to destroy the mind exploits people’s hearts.” Li Yuebai pointed to his chest: “The so-called barrier is actually a demon in the heart.”

“What’s the point of saying it now?”

“It is.” Li Yuebai smiled: “From beginning to end, the reason I was trapped by the barrier, the reason I was deceived and hurt by your phantom, is for only one reason— that is, I completely believed that what your phantom showed was the truth.”

The phantom itself could not cause pain; the only reason for his pain was that what the phantom showed was real.

Li Yuebai was absolutely certain: Ye Qing must have killed Xiao Wan and drunk her blood.

Ye Qing must have killed those people and drunk their blood.

No vampire could resist their desires; vampires would inevitably drink blood— this was an inviolable law of nature, an inevitability.

Therefore, when the phantom revealed the details of drinking blood, Li Yuebai was in immense pain— he believed these things were truly happening.

“But just now, that reality was shattered.” Li Yuebai put down his gun, his smile widening. “I can tell you now, your barrier, your illusions, everything you displayed is fake. I don’t believe a single thing about it.”

“Don’t deceive yourself.” Gao Chengyu looked at him with pity. “Are you going to tell me that the person you value didn’t do those things?”

“Yes, that’s it.” Li Yuebai shrugged. “Ye Qing didn’t kill anyone, not a single one.”

“What a joke.” Gao Chengyu laughed loudly. “He’s a vampire! How could he not have drunk human blood?”

“At first, I didn’t believe it either, but seeing is believing, and I have to.” Li Yuebai organized his knowledge. “Impaler King, do I need to explain vampires to you? Do you know what a vampire who hasn’t drunk blood for seven days will become?”

“I don’t know.” Gao Chengyu frowned slightly. “Perhaps my subordinates might know…”

According to the “Examination of Blood Charms,” if a vampire goes seven days without drinking any blood, he will experience excruciating pain all over his body, and his skin will develop countless cracks.

Just like Ye Qing just now.

And Ye Qing had been a vampire for exactly seven days.

Ye Qing hadn’t drunk any blood at all. During this time, he had been silently suppressing his desires, enduring the pain in his body, and hadn’t done anything against his principles.

“You may not believe that there are such people in the world.” Li Yuebai shook his head with a smile, his eyes stinging. “But my Xiao Ye is exactly that kind of person.”

How did he manage to get through those seven days? Li Yuebai didn’t dare to think about it, not even a little bit.

Ye Qing’s body not only had terrifying cracks, but there was also a clear bite mark on his arm— that bite mark, if you looked closely, you could see that it was Ye Qing’s own.

Perhaps it was that night in the basement, when he bit that girl’s shoulder and made a wound… but in the end, he stopped himself, not wanting to hurt the girl further, and instead bit his own arm, suppressing his desires in this way.

“So, every layer of illusion you created is fake.” Li Yuebai looked around. “A barrier can only be completely destroyed from the inside, and there’s one way to destroy a barrier—to completely deny its reality.”

In an instant, the entire Seven Star Tower shook violently.

Stones and bricks fell from the ceiling with a deafening roar.

The illusory Ye Qing once again turned into a puddle of sand.

The barrier was about to collapse.
