After attending the seminar held at S University on Saturday, Lu Dangui took advantage of his Sunday off to catch up on sleep.

With his younger sister away at school, he no longer had to get up regularly to cook for Lu Wenfei, and he finally enjoyed a blissful weekend of being sealed in bed, sleeping soundly until dawn while hugging his pillow.

On Monday morning, Lu Dangui was suddenly awakened from his dream.

He pulled his phone out from under his pillow and checked the time; it was already 9:15.

He was about to miss the weekly meeting, so he rushed downstairs to hail a taxi without even having breakfast. Unexpectedly, just as he reached the department entrance, Dr. Lin called out to him.

“Xiao Lu, why are you so late today?” Dr. Lin said. “The director told you not to go to the morning meeting, but to go to his office first.”

It’s all over…

This was his first real tardiness since becoming a full-time employee, and he was likely to get a severe scolding from Director Wang.

Lu Dangui felt a little uneasy, but still nodded: “Okay, I’ll be right there.”

He turned and started walking toward the director’s office, when he heard Dr. Lin call out again from behind, “Xiao Lu.”

Seeing the hesitant expression on Dr. Lin’s face, Lu Dangui’s heart began to race: “What’s wrong, Brother Lin?”

“You… haven’t gotten into any trouble lately, have you?”

Considering that Xiao Lu and he usually had a good relationship, Dr. Lin decided to remind him about a few things: “Vice Dean Qiu came to the psychiatry department early this morning, looking quite serious. He said he came specifically to see you.”

Dr. Lin was also a little confused. Xiao Lu was just a little late, so why did it alarm Dean Qiu?

Lu Dangui was truly panicked now.

Vice Dean Qiu was a very well-known clinical psychologist in the field, with a background in psychiatry. When he was studying at S University’s medical school, he attended a lecture by Dean Qiu and was deeply impressed by many of Dean Qiu’s views, but he never had the opportunity to ask him questions in person.

Why would the dean, who was extremely busy, make a special trip to the department to see him?

Could something have gone wrong with the seminar on Saturday?

….

What exactly went wrong?

Lu Dangui thought about it the whole way but couldn’t figure it out.

The seminar had just ended, and before there was even a chance to review it, Dean Qiu was surrounded by a group of men in sunglasses and “invited” into a black sedan parked near the back wall of the hospital.

The leader of the men in black remained silent but simply turned on the screen of the car’s center console.

Seeing his old friend’s cold face on the screen, Dean Qiu was both annoyed and amused.

“Old Xing!”

He politely declined the cigarette offered by the bodyguard in the car: “If you want to find me, can’t you just call or come to my office? Who are you trying to impress with this big fuss?”

Sitting in the conference room on the other side of the screen is Xing Jingshan, the current chairman of Bayview Group.

“I’m abroad, and this is an encrypted line,” Xing Jingshan said. “Wan’an Holdings is investigating A Cheng again, and I don’t trust them enough to call you directly.”

Xing Jingshan waved his hand, dismissing his secretary: “Old Qiu, I still need your help with A Cheng’s matter.”

“What else can I do to help?”

Dean Qiu feigned annoyance and said to his old friend, “I’ve done everything I can. Your son’s illness can’t be rushed, given the current medical conditions…”

“I know,” Xing Jingshan stubbed out his cigarette. “I wanted to ask you for help to get him an appointment with a doctor.”

Dean Qiu sighed.

He really didn’t want to discourage Chairman Xing, but in the past few years, the Xing family had consulted almost all the famous doctors in the country for their eldest son’s illness, and in the end, it was almost all in vain.

Xing Jingshan had put in a lot of effort for the son left behind by his first wife, and he was also quite willing to help his old friend.

But now that things have come to this, which deity could still display their supernatural powers?

“Tell me, who are you looking for?”

The Xing family was wealthy and powerful, and the fees they offered were astronomical. Which doctor in S City, or even the whole country, wouldn’t want to take the job, and why would they need him to personally handle it?

Dean Qiu began to silently recall the contact information of several old classmates who were in the research team in the United States.

“A Cheng said he’s from your hospital.” Xing Jingshan slowly uttered a name, “His name is Lu Dangui. Lu as in road, and Dangui as in Chinese medicine.”

Dean Qiu was stunned.

“……who?”

….

When Lu Dangui arrived at the director’s office, he found that the director was not there, and only Vice Dean Qiu was in the office.

“Dean Qiu?”

Seeing the young doctor timidly peek in from outside the door and greet him with a nervous expression, Dean Qiu felt a mix of emotions.

He didn’t know how this young man got involved in the Xing family’s mess.

Thinking this to himself, Dean Qiu quickly forced a kind smile onto his face: “Dr. Lu, come, please have a seat.”

“I heard from Lao Wang that you just became a full-time employee not long ago. Do you have experience in seeing patients independently?”

The dean didn’t sit down, and Lu Dangui didn’t dare to either, standing ramrod straight in front of the desk: “I’ve followed the director through several clinical cases before, but I haven’t been able to see patients independently yet…”

Really.

Dean Qiu thought to himself.

This young doctor had neither qualifications nor experience; so their reason for “coming because of his reputation” was just empty talk.

Young Master Xing specifically requested to see this person; it was unclear whether he genuinely wanted treatment or what his true intentions were.

The Xing family members were all difficult to please. If it weren’t for the fact that he was a close friend of Chairman Xing and had to consider the Xing family’s reputation in everything he did, he wouldn’t get involved so casually.

“That’s right,” Dean Qiu said in a somewhat strange tone, “a patient came to me and specifically asked to see you.”

“……”

Lu Dangui was dumbfounded.

He thought he was just going to be scolded in the office, but he didn’t expect this to happen.

Could it be that he’s been having bad luck for so long and his luck has suddenly turned around?
