Hearing familiar footsteps outside the door, Lu Wenfei braced herself on the bed frame with both hands, nimbly moved onto her wheelchair from the bedside, and started turning the wheels on both sides of the wheelchair, moving from the bedroom to the living room.

“Elder brother!”

Seeing the person standing in the entryway, Lu Wenfei’s eyes lit up with surprise: “Brother, I thought you were going to be on duty again and wouldn’t be coming back…”

Why are you up so early today?

Lu Dangui changed into slippers, put down the plastic bag in her hand, and pushed her younger sister to the dining table: “Eat breakfast first, don’t let it get cold.”

Looking at the plastic bag on the table, Lu Wenfei scratched her nose a little embarrassedly.

The bag contained her favorite custard buns[1] and soy milk, still steaming hot. This breakfast stall was usually packed; her brother probably went to queue up very early in the morning.

Lu Wenfei took the custard bun her brother handed her from a tissue, took a big gulp of hot soy milk, and was about to start eating when she suddenly felt that her brother seemed a little different than usual.

Instead of waiting for her to feast as usual, her brother placed his hands flat on the table and looked at her with a hesitant expression.

“Um— brother, what’s wrong?”

After swallowing most of a steamed bun in one gulp, Lu Wenfei asked a question with her cheeks puffed out.

Lu Dangui lowered his eyes, staring at the back of his hand in deep thought for a long time before finally hesitatingly asking, “Wenfei, let me ask you something. Is there any new news about Xing Cheng lately?”

Hearing her brother suddenly ask about Cheng Cheng, Lu Wenfei’s heart skipped a beat. She put down the steamed bun in her hand and stammered, “Brother, didn’t he retire from the entertainment industry? I haven’t followed his news for a long time…”

Lu Dangui knew that his sister was lying.

Last month, he had hired a housekeeper to clean the house. She found several photo albums and magazine covers featuring Xing Cheng in the cracks under the bed and under the cabinets. Wenfei had difficulty walking, so she didn’t know how she managed to hide them from him.

Because he was worried that Wenfei would find out, he asked the aunt to put everything back exactly as it was.

Later, Wenfei’s old phone got wet while she was showering. He took Wenfei’s iCloud account to the store to restore the data and discovered that his sister had secretly registered several Weibo accounts, all of which were related to Xing Cheng.

Having relied on Lu Wenfei for so many years, how could he, as her older brother, not know his sister’s little thoughts?

Seeing that her brother remained silent for a long time, Lu Wenfei became increasingly flustered and hurriedly added, “Brother, I really don’t follow any celebrities anymore. If you don’t believe me, go ask A Yue!”

She knew her brother vehemently disliked Xing Cheng and was a huge hater of his. In their family, the name “Xing Cheng” was forbidden; no one was allowed to mention it.

“I didn’t mean anything by it, I just suddenly remembered it.”

Seeing that Wenfei was getting anxious, Lu Dangui was also afraid of upsetting his sister, so he patted her head and gently changed the subject: “Didn’t Yue Yue invite you to go to the movies today? I was on duty too late last night, so I’m going back to my room to catch up on some sleep. You have breakfast first, and I’ll take you there after you’re done.”

Back in the bedroom, Lu Dangui was so sleepy that his eyelids were drooping. He lay on the bed for a long time but couldn’t fall asleep.

Actually, on his way home, he had already searched online for Xing Cheng’s recent situation, including those anti-fan accounts he had followed before.

It was indeed a blank page; nothing could be found.

Two months ago, Xing Cheng, who had just won the Best Actor award, suddenly announced his retirement from acting, shocking the entire entertainment industry. Paparazzi desperately tried to find out the reason for Xing Cheng’s retirement, staking out his residence and agency for a long time, but all to no avail.

Xing Cheng’s last public appearance was at a press conference held the day after he announced his retirement from the entertainment industry. He stood at the entrance of his agency and bowed deeply to the hundreds of media outlets that had rushed to the scene.

After bowing, Xing Cheng raised his head, smiled, waved to the camera in front of him, and said goodbye to the fans and audience off-screen.

After that, the person vanished without a trace.

The news of the car accident early yesterday morning was hastily removed from the platform shortly after it was published. Searching for keywords on news apps yielded no results whatsoever regarding the incident itself.

Considering the swarm of helicopters seen in the sky last night, and the temporary closure of the Xicheng District bridge across the river…

The image of that tear mole soaked in blood gradually surfaced in Lu Dangui’s mind.

Xing Cheng also had a small mole on the lower left corner of his eye, which was his signature feature.

Turning over in bed, Lu Dangui groggily thought: …Could it really be him?

How can an annoying entertainment star have such great abilities?
