Upon returning to Zhuyang, Xie Lingya’s first action was to go to the hospital to see his father and then take Sisi away.

Song Jing was considered an older mother, so having breastfed for several months, she weaned Sisi relatively early; otherwise, it would have been difficult to take her away.

Father Xie, seeing Xie Lingya alone, glanced behind him.

Xie Lingya: “Just me. You miss him?”

Father Xie: “…………”

Father Xie: “…Get out of here.”

“Dad, don’t be so mean to me,” Xie Lingya placed the fruit he had brought on the table, “You need to rest, and think that if you hadn’t been so agitated last time, you wouldn’t be unable to take care of Sisi when she is so small, while the nanny has to look after both of you.”

Father Xie did feel a little ashamed… but quickly glared at Xie Lingya, feeling a sense of resentment at his son’s scolding. Unconsciously, his son had grown up and become sensible, able to take care of the adults in the family, but he had found a man, sigh.

Xie Lingya sat in the hospital for a while and seeing that his father was going for a check-up, he prepared to go home.

For various reasons, Song Jing trusted her stepson implicitly, entrusting him with her daughter and some daily necessities, and giving him some instructions.

Sisi was very affectionate towards Xie Lingya, drooling with joy as soon as she was in his arms. She was a tiny, adorable bundle in Xie Lingya’s arms. He carried her in one arm while carrying the things out of the hospital with the other.

Carrying his little sister made it inconvenient to squeeze onto the subway, so Xie Lingya hailed a taxi. The driver even mistook him for a young father.

Sisi had appeared at Baoyang Temple before, but Father Xie had suddenly fallen, so no one paid her much attention. They hadn’t dared to bother her too much at the hospital, but now they all gathered around.

“She looks a bit like Teacher Xie, no wonder they’re siblings.”

“Clear eyes, thick and coarse baby hair, looks like she’ll have a cheerful personality.”

“She’s quite cheerful now, hey, don’t you think she’s incredibly brave?”

Indeed, with so many people around, Sisi wasn’t afraid at all; instead, she smiled at them and reached out to grab their hands.

After those words were spoken, a strange silence fell over the room.

After a while, Zhang Daoting weakly said, “You said you and Teacher Xie are siblings…”

Xie Lingya: “…”

Xie Lingya picked up his sister, “Go away, you guys, don’t talk to my sister.”

Shi Changxuan had just finished tidying up the baby’s things and prepared the formula. Although his movements were not very skillful, they were careful and steady. After preparing the formula, he put the bottle to Sisi’s mouth, and she immediately took the nipple in her mouth.

The two of them, one holding the baby and the other feeding her, made everyone fall silent.

This, this was really showing affection in silence…

Those who couldn’t stand it left one after another.

After Sisi drank half a bottle, she spat out the nipple and refused to eat anymore. Shi Changxuan then patted her back until she burped.

Sisi smacked her lips and reached out to touch the little wooden figure on Shi Changxuan’s shoulder.

Shi Changxuan reached out and took the Phytolacca God off and put it in her hand.

Sisi hugged the Phytolacca God and kissed it twice, giggling as she tugged at its paw.

“Ah…ah…” Phytolacca God sighed contentedly, accepting the two sweet, baby-smelling kisses. Returning to Shi Changxuan’s arms, it said, “Xie Lingya is so great, even his little sister is so cute.”

Shi Changxuan: “…”

Even as Xie Lingya’s boyfriend, Shi Changxuan was a little confused. Was he really great just because Xie Lingya’s little sister was cute?

But Phytolacca God had been struck by lightning and had been a little abnormal since birth, so Shi Changxuan had gotten used to it.

….

That night, Xie Lingya slept with Shi Changxuan, taking turns getting up to care for Sisi.

“Wah wah—”

Xie Lingya had only slept for five minutes after feeding Sisi when he was woken up again. It was barely dawn. Listening carefully, he realized it was a faint alarm outside, which had startled Sisi.

The alarm wasn’t a regular fire alarm; it was coming from Fang Zhe’s direction.

Xie Lingya, finding the situation unresolved, picked up Sisi and went outside. “Old Fang, what’s wrong with you? It kept beeping last time too.”

Fang Zhe, who had been researching all night, his face paling, whether from staying up late or from what he had discovered, said, “Our research direction is correct, and we’ve made great progress. Logically, after this improvement, we should be able to detect the Yin energy of Youdu within a hundred miles…” He was still a little confused, “But I finished the modification last night, and just during a further check, it suddenly started alarming. Could it be… that the Child of Youdu is approaching?”

This conclusion was shocking and abrupt, making him almost unable to believe it. The Child of Youdu had come knocking?

Xie Lingya’s expression changed.

This was bad.

He had originally thought that those causing him trouble were remnants of the Hongyang Dao, but now Fang Zhe’s research showed that the Child of Youdu might be nearby— if his device was indeed working correctly, then whether it was the Child of Youdu at all, or both, the consequences would be dire.

Sisi was still crying, and Xie Lingya grew increasingly uneasy. His face grim, he said, “Notify everyone involved immediately. We must find him, no matter what.”

It was just dawn, and he woke everyone up. Each person took out their phone to notify their respective locations or offered incense to the gods.

Only after the message had been relayed did Xie Lingya feel slightly relieved. He took out all the talismans he had accumulated and distributed them to everyone. With a formidable enemy at hand, he wanted to fully equip everyone.

Shi Changxuan squeezed Xie Lingya’s hand, signaling him to calm down.

Xie Lingya nodded, calming himself. Although the situation had been sudden, they had actually been preparing for some time.

Just then, Xie Lingya received a call from his father. They were coming back today to pick up Sisi.

Xie Lingya thought for a moment, then decisively said, “Come directly to the temple and stay here for a while.”

He didn’t feel comfortable sending them back. If the Son of Youdu was truly in Zhuyang, it would be better for his family to be with him.

Because of this development, Xie Lingya still had to attend a meeting, or rather, meet with other monks. He and Shi Changxuan waited at the door with Sisi in their arms for Father Xie and Song Jing. Only after seeing them did they feel relieved enough to hand Sisi over to them.

It was at this moment that Xie Lingya saw Lian Tan and his two disciples.

“What are you doing here, monk?” Xie Lingya asked. The scenic area where the temple was located was in the mountains, more than a hundred kilometers away.

“I was originally coming down the mountain to perform a ritual today, but after hearing about that matter, I decided to come and find you so we could go to the meeting together,” Lian Tan replied tactfully upon seeing Xie Lingya’s family present.

This matter was not just a problem for the Daoist sect; if the Son of Youdu were to cause trouble, it would endanger the entire world, and the Buddhist sect would naturally be involved as well.

Xie Lingya nodded and introduced Lian Tan to his father.

Lian Tan smiled upon seeing Xie Lingya’s sister, clutching his monk’s robe, and asked, “Does Mr. Xie mind?”

Xie Lingya, understanding his meaning, shook his head.

Father Xie and Song Jing, however, were somewhat puzzled. Lian Tan then removed his own robe. Xie Lingya took the robe, folded it a few times, and wrapped it around Sisi, saying softly, “This is a protective garment. Giving the children monk’s robes will prevent illness and ensure their longevity and health.”

Lian Tan was a highly virtuous monk, and his robes naturally possessed strong protective power. Although Xie Lingya had given his family talismans, in this situation, any protection was never too much, and it didn’t matter if it was Buddhist.

Hearing this, Father Xie and Song Jing were even less inclined to object. After thanking Lian Tan, they even tidied the robes.

Sisi, wrapped in the robes, began to cry.

Song Jing glanced at them and said, “It’s probably because the monk’s robes are a bit too warm.” The weather was warming up, so she unbuttoned a few buttons on Sisi’s coat and held her in her arms to comfort her.

“…Let’s go.” Xie Lingya glanced at his family, sighed, and said.

Father Xie didn’t know where they were going, but he felt uneasy, especially since Sisi was still crying. Although he had mixed feelings about Shi Changxuan, he impulsively called them back.

“When you’re traveling, take care of each other,” Father Xie managed to say.

Shi Changxuan hesitated for a moment, then nodded firmly.

The gloom in Xie Lingya’s heart lessened somewhat. “I understand. You can go in.”
