Monday arrived quickly as the selection day began. Bai Yue arrived at the assembly classroom as instructed.

Upon opening the door, he found it already packed with people. Counselor Song, standing on the platform, smiled gently at him: “Please, sit wherever you like.”

There were about thirty people present. With each class nominating one student, about ten were still absent.

Among the crowd, Bai Yue immediately spotted Du Qin. Although Du Qin wasn’t in his class, he seemed to have also chosen the Comprehensive Military Academy.

He didn’t approach him but sat in a corner.

With ten minutes until the assembly time on the notice, the students were all doing their own thing and didn’t seem inclined to interact.

After Bai Yue entered, several people secretly glanced back. But once their eyes met, they blushed and looked away.

Bai Yue didn’t pay attention and took out his phone.

His messages with Shang Yufei remained at the last one he’d sent last week.

Bai Yue: “…”

He hadn’t told Shang Yufei about the selection yet. Their relationship wasn’t going to improve anytime soon, and he figured even if he did, he’d face opposition.

Therefore, only when he officially entered the disciplinary team based on his own abilities— only then would Shang Yufei change his opinion of him.

Probably.

Since the last exchange ended in failure again, Bai Yue wasn’t quite sure.

Just then, a figure sat down beside him. Bai Yue turned his head and saw that it was his roommate.

He was slightly taken aback. He had also told Mu Sihan about participating in the selection, but the other party hadn’t said anything at the time.

Mu Sihan noticed the gaze and turned his head to look at him: “What are you looking at?”

Bai Yue came back to his senses: “No, I just didn’t expect you to come too. Why didn’t you say so before?”

Actually, it wasn’t too surprising. Mu Sihan was strong, and the teacher couldn’t possibly have missed him.

Mu Sihan looked away: “No need, you’ll know if you need to.”

This was in line with Mu Sihan’s personality; he was probably just too lazy to tell him.

Bai Yue just smiled and didn’t say anything more.

Soon, all fifty people had arrived. There were 50 classes in the first year of the Comprehensive Military Academy. And those gathered in this classroom were all the best students in their classes.

Counselor Song glanced at the time, then put his hand down and smiled, “Looks like everyone’s here.”

Hearing this, everyone looked up at the center of the stage.

Although Counselor Song was an alpha, he wasn’t particularly tall and had a refined, scholarly air.

He held a stack of documents in his hand: “I’ll be assisting with this selection process. I’ve already submitted everyone’s information to the disciplinary team. Next, I’ll take you to the assembly point. Besides our college, there will be students from the other two colleges there. I hope everyone can get along amicably.”

Get along amicably?

Most people looked disdainful upon hearing this.

The number of qualified candidates was limited; everyone was a competitor. To be selected, one had to squeeze out others and climb the ranks. Although the specific assessment content wasn’t clear yet, getting along amicably… was probably impossible.

But Counselor Song seemed oblivious to everyone’s emotions, continuing with his usual platitudes, finally saying, “Now, everyone stand up and proceed to the auditorium.”

The auditorium was the venue for the opening ceremony and could hold over a thousand people.

When the students from the first college entered in a grand procession, they found that students from the Strategic Command Academy and the Pheromones Research Academy were already there. The counselors from both academies stood to one side. The students from the First Academy immediately attracted attention upon entering. As the strongest academy overall in the Imperial Academy, they were viewed with apprehension by the students from the other two academies.

While enjoying the attention, the students from the First Academy also secretly observed them.

The Strategic Command Academy consisted of bright students. If the assessment involved battlefield command, they would have the advantage.

The Pheromones Research Academy, on the other hand, excelled in using pheromones in combat. Although the First Academy also had related courses, their focus on well-rounded development meant they couldn’t match the proficiency of the opposing academy. Therefore, even a single high-level individual from the opposing academy would put them at a disadvantage.

While observing each other, the students from the Comprehensive Military Academy finally returned to their positions.

The disciplinary team hadn’t arrived yet, and some were still whispering amongst themselves.

“I was worried for nothing. I thought the people from the First Academy were terrifying. They don’t seem like that at all.”

“Exactly. There seem to be a few omegas mixed in? What’s the point of having such good-looking people here? It’s not a beauty pageant.”

Although the volume wasn’t loud, it clearly reached the ears of the First Academy students.

Immediately, someone retorted angrily, “What did you say! Don’t look down on us!”

“But, this probably isn’t referring to us,” someone whispered. “There are indeed a few who don’t fit in.”

So some mocked outsiders, while others ridiculed insiders. Before the selection even began, the Comprehensive Military Academy was already falling apart.

Bai Yue sighed softly.

Mu Sihan stood to the side, his face as cold as ice, showing no reaction. But as the noise grew louder, he suddenly turned and stepped out of the ranks, grabbing the person who had just been mocking them.

The person grabbed was stunned. Before he could react, he was grabbed by the shoulder and slammed to the ground.

The sound was deafening, silencing the entire auditorium as if all sound had been cut off.

Mu Sihan’s cold eyes swept over each of their faces. Though devoid of emotion, it felt as if a sharp blade had sliced across their necks.

“It’s too noisy, shut up.”

Everyone: “…”

The next second, they all turned their heads, stood at attention, and dared not meet his gaze again.

The auditorium returned to silence. The three counselors initially intended to restore order, but seeing everyone quiet down, they withdrew their hands.

The unlucky student who had been thrown hadn’t woken up immediately, so his classmates temporarily dragged him out of the crowd.

Soon, accompanied by a series of neat and crisp footsteps, the disciplinary team members entered through the back door.

Even though they wore the same style of uniform, they looked remarkably sharp and dashing.

The crowd surrounded them from behind, forming two lines that encircled the first-year students. The team members stood with their hands behind their backs, their faces serious.

Among them, leading the group was a handsome man. His hair reached his shoulders and was loosely tied back. Like the others, his face was expressionless, but his aura was more powerful.

Beside him was a female alpha with a black ponytail. This was the disciplinary team member Bai Yue had seen on the day of the club recruitment.

The man walked past the students and stood at the very front of the crowd. He wore a disciplinary team armband on his right arm.

The first-year students looked at this senior and involuntarily swallowed.

“Hello,” the man said. His voice was as clear and crisp as his appearance.

“I’m Fu Cheng, the captain of the disciplinary team.”

Hearing this name, the freshmen all looked on with anticipation.

This was Fu Cheng!

Soon after entering the military academy, Fu Cheng’s name became legendary.

Not only because he stood at the top of the cadets, leading the elite of the disciplinary squad, but also because, despite being only a second-year student, he had already secured the position of disciplinary squad captain!

Originally, this position should have been held by a third-year student. But Fu Cheng broke the convention, achieving numerous merits in just one year and successfully ascending to the position.

Due to his outstanding abilities, the upperclassmen who were dethroned showed no resentment and readily offered their congratulations.

It could be said that Fu Cheng was an unattainable figure for every cadet.

The new students became noisy again.

The girl with the ponytail frowned, about to step forward to restore order, but was stopped by Fu Cheng.

The young disciplinary squad captain swept his gaze across the crowd, and the commotion immediately ceased.

Fu Cheng: “The fact that you’re all standing here proves you’re among the best of the freshmen. However, the number of selected members is limited, making the selection process extremely difficult. That’s why we organized this selection process. Now, let me briefly explain the rules.”

He got straight to the point, and the freshmen held their breath, afraid of missing a single word.

The selection for the disciplinary team is divided into a preliminary selection and a final selection. Only by passing both assessments can one become a formal member. So far, the pass rate for the assessments is 30%.

That means that out of the 150 or so students from the three departments combined, only about 40 will ultimately become formal members.

Fu Cheng: “The preliminary selection will be conducted in teams. Before I take you to the preliminary selection venue, please form your own teams.”

Fu Cheng glanced at his watch: “15 minutes. Teams that don’t reach 5 members by the deadline will be eliminated.”

This…this is already starting? The freshmen were stunned.

Fu Cheng’s voice wasn’t loud, but it was firm and resolute.

“Now, dismissed.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the students, disregarding everything else, immediately went to gather people they knew around them.

After all, this wasn’t a multiple of 5 anymore. If they were left until the very end and eliminated before the preliminary selection even began, it would be a huge loss.

Bai Yue stood still, not making any immediate move.

Fifteen minutes wasn’t too long, but it wasn’t short either. It seemed that only a minority of the freshmen knew each other, and they all tended to team up with students from the same department.

Although the disciplinary team leader had briefly introduced the rules, he hadn’t mentioned any specific details. Students from the three departments each had their strengths, and if they only stuck to their own department, it would be difficult to achieve balance.

The meaning of team formation should lie in this.

He looked around; in just a few minutes, quite a few people had already formed teams. But some were still a step behind, standing alone, looking around anxiously, trying to join other teams.
