Shortly after the disciplinary team left, the club recruitment resumed.

Bai Yue looked at Mu Sihan: “Are you interested in the disciplinary team?”

Hearing this, the other looked back.

Bai Yue smiled: “After all, given your personality, you would have left long ago if you weren’t interested.”

Mu Sihan didn’t reply, looking away.

Just then, a dark figure suddenly appeared. He felt a sharp aura, frowned, and subconsciously reached out to block.

Shang Yufei didn’t expect that when he tried to pull Bai Yue, he would be blocked by this stranger. So he glanced over and frowned: “What are you doing?”

Mu Sihan’s tone was icy: “What are you doing now?”

Bai Yue was also taken aback. Only then did he recognize the person. He hadn’t been able to contact him for days and was planning to go look for him later, but he didn’t expect to run into him in a place like this.

Seeing the awkward atmosphere between his roommate and boyfriend, he put his arm between them and smiled at Mu Sihan: “Sorry, I know him. He’s my… senior from high school.”

Hearing this, Mu Sihan didn’t say anything more and let go of his hold.

Shang Yufei snorted, grabbed Bai Yue, and dragged him in another direction.

Mu Sihan watched them leave. Although he felt the so-called “high school senior” had a strange attitude, it wasn’t his business.

Turning to leave, he bumped into another alpha.

The other was tall, blocking most of the light just by standing in front of him. His hair was shaved very short, and he had a silly grin on his face.

“Sorry to startle you. My boss has a bad temper.”

Mu Sihan glared at him.

Wu Zihao: “Since my boss knows your friend, it proves we have a connection. I’m a second-year student at the Comprehensive Military Academy, so I should be your senior. Let’s be friends…”

Before he could finish speaking, the handsome blond boy walked past him and headed away.

“Hey, wait, where are you going!”

Wu Zihao hurriedly chased after him.

Between his boss and the beauty, he chose the beauty.

On the other side, Bai Yue was being pulled forward by Shang Yufei. The other walked ahead, remaining silent the entire time.

The two moved away from the bustling central square. The number of students around them dwindled until only the two of them remained.

Bai Yue vaguely sensed something was wrong: “What’s wrong with you?”

Only then did the other person suddenly stop and turn around.

It had been several months since they last met, and Bai Yue had expected their reunion to be filled with joy. But Shang Yufei’s expression was complicated, as if he didn’t recognize him.

They had now arrived at a secluded school ground where a gentle breeze rustled the green leaves.

“Why are you here?” he asked, a slight smirk playing on his lips. “And, senior from high school?”

Bai Yue glanced down at himself. He was wearing a tracksuit, without the Imperial Military Academy’s insignia.

“Because I enrolled at Imperial Military Academy, and I’m a student here now.” He looked up at Shang Yufei again and said, “Our current relationship isn’t suitable for others to know.”

Currently, the Empire didn’t approve of homosexuality. Besides, both of them would become soldiers later; there was no need for this to become an obstacle to their advancement— before they gained sufficient power.

Shang Yufei: “…”

He then said succinctly, “Drop out.”

Bai Yue was taken aback, and before he could reply, he heard the other say, “It’s only the beginning of the semester, there’s still time. I’ll help you contact the culinary school, and if you need money, I’ll pay for it…”

“Wait,” Bai Yue interrupted him, “Why?”

Shang Yufei still held Bai Yue’s hand, his grip tightening, “You didn’t originally want to be a soldier. There’s no need to change because of this secondary differentiation.”

Bai Yue remained silent.

What he originally wanted to do.

He originally wanted to open a restaurant and build a family with Shang Yufei.

And even till last year, he could never have imagined that he would become an alpha and a student at the Imperial First Comprehensive Military Academy.

Secondary differentiation had changed his biological sex from omega to alpha. And psychologically, Bai Yue’s self-identity was still somewhat unclear.

After a long silence, Bai Yue said, “It’s impossible for things not to change.”

He gazed into his boyfriend’s dark green eyes. “You should know about the Imperial laws. If you don’t have the right to resist the law, you’ll be forced into a pairing.”

Shang Yufei frowned. “I can handle this alone.”

Bai Yue shook his head. “This isn’t just your problem, it’s both of ours.”

He lowered his gaze, landing on the other’s hand. “Besides, I can’t let you face this alone.”

“…”

Shang Yufei didn’t reply immediately. But his hand slid down Bai Yue’s arm until it grasped the other’s palm. Then, with a sudden tug, he pulled the other closer, his other hand lifting Bai Yue’s long sleeve.

What came into view was a body covered in bruises that hadn’t yet healed. They stood out starkly against the pale skin.

Bai Yue had been overtraining these past few days; apart from his arms, almost no part of his body was unscathed.

Shang Yufei’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as he stared intently at the scars. After a long silence, he said, “It can’t be that simple.”

“Joining the army…”

Shang Yufei had studied at the Imperial First Military Academy for a year and already had a thorough understanding of the institution. At the same time, he also deeply felt that he was not suitable to be a soldier.

He had to obey his superiors, obey commands, and obey discipline.

No matter how harsh or incomprehensible the rules were, they had to be followed.

Perhaps this was a necessary condition for soldiers, but not for Shang Yufei.

Therefore, when he ran home against the school’s wishes, he was already mentally prepared to drop out. Perhaps choosing to enter military academy was a mistake.

—But this thought changed after Bai Yue’s second differentiation.

Because of those inexplicable imperial laws, to defy them, he had to obtain enough military merits and climb to a high enough position, perhaps only then could he have the privilege of exception.

Therefore, he returned to military academy again. Then he was caught by the disciplinary team and thrown into solitary confinement.

But no matter what, as long as Bai Yue could live as before, that was enough. But he never expected that the next second after leaving solitary confinement, he would see him in this dilapidated place.

At present, the relationship between the Empire and the Federation was extremely fragile. Once the superficial friendship broke down, these military academy students who belonged to the Imperial Army’s reserves must also be prepared to go to the front line at any time.

He absolutely couldn’t let Bai Yue experience this danger.

Bai Yue lowered his sleeve. Only when his vision was blocked did Shang Yufei seem to come back to his senses and slightly raise his head.

The two looked at each other.

Bai Yue: “I understand. But I was prepared for this.”

The atmosphere became slightly heavy.

Bai Yue raised his other hand and covered Shang Yufei’s palm: “I will slowly accept the fact that I am an alpha. You’d better… stop treating me like an omega.”

Shang Yufei’s breath hitched.

Bai Yue: “Scars are nothing to military academy students.”

He stared steadily at the other: “I hope to fight alongside you in the future.”

Perhaps to ease the tension, Bai Yue had a faint smile on his lips. But his eyes and expression were extremely serious. Shang Yufei could see this too.

However, he couldn’t accept it.

Secretly hiding their relationship, such that their relationship was just that of high school senior and junior.

Moreover, from now on, the training and internships would be more difficult, and the possibility of Bai Yue getting injured would also increase.

He couldn’t, and wouldn’t, just stand by and watch.

Perhaps both of them were thinking of the other’s best interests, but for the moment, neither could convince the other.

“Beep beep.”

Bai Yue’s phone rang. This was the alarm he had set for himself, with time limits for each training exercise.

He didn’t look but simply reached in and turned off the bell. The courtyard returned to silence.

Bai Yue said, “No matter what, I won’t drop out.”

He released Shang Yufei’s hand. “I have classes today, I’ll contact you later.”

Shang Yufei didn’t reply.

Bai Yue thought for a moment, then walked over and gently hugged Shang Yufei.

The other man stiffened slightly, but neither flinched nor returned the hug.

Bai Yue whispered, “I’m so glad to see you again. Although I don’t know where you’ve been all this time, I’m just glad you’re alright.”

The young man lowered his head slightly, his bangs partially obscuring his beautiful dark green eyes.

He suddenly raised his hand and tightly gripped Bai Yue’s shoulder. Then he pushed him away.

“I don’t want… to see you in a place like this.”

Shang Yufei turned and left the schoolyard without looking back.

Bai Yue was stunned, wanting to chase after him. But he stopped after taking just one step.

Even if he rushed over now, it wouldn’t make a difference; both of them needed time to think.

Before Shang Yufei left last time, he had told him he didn’t want him to enter military school. Bai Yue had anticipated some opposition, but he hadn’t expected such strong resistance.

He raised his hand, looking at his palm. Due to the sudden high-intensity training, the skin around his fingertips was broken and rough.

Bai Yue clenched his fist.

There was no turning back. To change all this, he had to continue down this path.
