In a while, Anos will probably be called “Your Majesty”. At that time, he will be entangled in all sorts of messy things, such as the affairs of the Papacy, the investigation of the end times, and the relationship with the Empire. He may not be able to see John.

As soon as Luo Mi stepped out of the prayer hall, he saw Anos walking over from the other side.

Seeing the expression on Anos’s face, Luo Mi asked knowingly, “Well, Your Holiness the Pope?”

Anos, still pale from his injury, coughed lightly, somewhat embarrassed: “Just as you guessed, the entire College of Cardinals passed a resolution to bury Saint Gregory III in the name of a normal return to the Kingdom of God, followed by a succession ceremony in which I will succeed as Pope.”

Luo Mi clapped her hands and then told him about John’s situation.

Anos and Luo Mi had the same idea: “I’ll go see him now, I might not have time later.”

Luo Mi originally planned to go with Anos but stopped after taking two steps: “You go first, I… need to use the restroom.”

Watching Anos enter the prayer hall and speak with John, Luo Mi stood in a corner, frowning as he asked in his mind, “System, you’ve been resurrected? Where have you been all this time? I have a lot of questions for you.”

[…]

“System?”

The system hissed twice with a mechanical sound, like an old television restarting— followed by the familiar announcement of tasks:

[Mission Progress Update: Three high-ranking members of the Holy See have been charmed, and the seeds of charm have been planted in their consciousness (3/3).]

[Progress Update Rewards: 20 points and one Constitution upgrade.]

[Please enter the Prayer Hall to claim your reward.]

Luo Mi was stunned for a moment: “What?”

In the first two missions, Luo Mi upgraded his Phantom and Flame Demon physiques respectively. Luo Mi remembered that the system said that the third reward of this mission was not selectable and was a fixed physique upgrade, but he did not know the specifics at the time.

But whatever it was, why would he be asked to go into the prayer hall to receive it?

Anos was still in the prayer hall! What if Anos finds out?

Unfortunately, no matter how Luo Mi asked, the system remained silent or gave an automated response, which made Luo Mi so angry that she almost jumped up.

With no other option, Luo Mi headed towards the prayer hall, ready to run back immediately if anything went wrong.

As he reached the entrance to the prayer hall’s corridor, he saw Anos, a gentle smile on his face, receiving the handcrafted wooden cross from John. John and Lina stood before him, their eyes sparkling with adoration.

As if sensing something, Anos turned his head to look at Luo Mi and gave her a slight smile.

Luo Mi stopped in her tracks and frowned instantly.

—Was he mistaken? Just now, Anos’s eyes… did they turn silver?

Just as Luo Mi was still pondering this thought, he saw Anos smile and reach out, deftly and precisely piercing John’s chest, who was standing in front of him.

John was completely bewildered by what had happened. He stared blankly at the beautiful and compassionate Holy Prince, at the prince’s silver-white eyes that still held a gentle smile, and his consciousness slowly sank into the deep ocean.

Lina was also caught off guard. Only after Anos withdrew his bloodied hand and John fell back did she let out a sharp, incredulous cry:

“John?!”

“John!!”

Her voice instantly turned into a sob.

Anos looked at her with pity and gently patted Lina’s brown head with his palm.

With a “thud,” Lina’s head, like a cracked watermelon, was fragilely shattered into pieces under Anos’s palm.

The girl swayed and fell silently onto John.

The handcrafted wooden crosses lay on their corpses, stained a dark red with blood.

….

All of this happened in just a few seconds, yet it made Luo Mi feel as if he were dreaming.

His legs felt like lead. It wasn’t until John and Lina’s blood spread across the clean, tidy prayer hall floor, until the other worshippers screamed in terror, until the Templar Knights rushed over and surrounded Anos, that Luo Mi snapped out of her daze and rushed into the prayer hall: “Anos! What are you doing?!”

Anos’s face, robes, and hands were all soaked in blood, yet a faint smile remained on his lips.

Holy light swirled behind him, coalescing into the shape of a pair of wings, and a sacred angelic halo was outlined above his head.

Luo Mi’s pupils suddenly contracted: “Anos? Stop! They’ll die!”

Anos’s wings were blessed by the gods, and anyone who saw Anos’s wings would be burned by sacred fire unless they were innocent!

The accident that once drove Anos into a semi-reclusive state and made Reinhardt willing to try alchemy was because of this!

What exactly happened to Anos?

For a moment, Luo Mi even thought that the demon version of Anos had appeared online— but the demon Anos’s pupils were blood red, not silver-white!

To his surprise, after Anos spread his pure white wings, none of the people around him were attacked by the sacred fire.

The Creator’s most perfect wings spread out, their graceful curves, flowing feathers, and pure white color making them appear so sacred. Anos, with his pure white wings, stood there smiling, like a true angel. Even Luo Mi, who had seen them several times, was momentarily stunned.

In the blink of an eye, the pure white wings were quickly stained with black, as if an ink bottle had been poured onto a white sheet of paper!

The halo representing angels above Anos’s head flickered a few times before gradually dimming. But it did not disappear; it seemed to float down from above Anos’s head as if it were a physical entity.

Then, it flew towards Luo Mi.

Luo Mi instinctively stepped back, but it quickly caught up with him— the dim angelic halo rushed into his heart and merged with him.

Luo Mi felt pain in his shoulders, back, waist, and legs, as if he had turned into a lump of clay and was being kneaded and stretched at will; and it felt as if a flame was burning inside his body, as if it could explode at any moment!

Luo Mi couldn’t help but let out a painful groan.

If there were a mirror in front of Luo Mi at this moment, he would see that his height was increasing, his face was maturing, and his hair was growing. In the blink of an eye, he had grown from a boy into an adult male.

“Splash!”

Luo Mi couldn’t help but spread his wings, then froze.

The wings swaying slightly beside him were not the ugly, bat-like fleshy wings that once belonged to demons, but pure white, feather-covered, beautiful angel wings.

Luo Mi stared blankly at Anos, who had black wings on his back, and saw his own reflection in Anos’s now blue eyes:

Fiery red hair, delicate face, slender and straight figure, and pure white wings.

Most importantly, his appearance after he grew up was six or seven parts similar to Anos.

The system’s mechanical voice echoed in his mind:

[Congratulations, host, on upgrading to the “Angel” physique.]

[Mission Progress Update: Luring the Holy Son to Fall (2/?)]

[Please keep up the good work, host.]
