“Wh, what is this?!”

Everyone’s attention was drawn to Najina, who exclaimed in surprise.

“Wh-what’s the matter, husband of the ‘Great Sword’?”

Maon-san called out to Najina-san with a worried look on her face. Najina-san, meanwhile, was staring intently at the mayonnaise inner bread in her hand. Then he spoke.

“That’s impossible… something like this is happening. Granny… deliciousness doesn’t just happen in your mouth… I’ve just realized that.”

Najina-san began to speak with a somewhat pained expression on his face.

“True deliciousness doesn’t just stay in your mouth… Of course it’s the taste, but also the aroma that reaches your nose, the pleasant texture on your tongue, this sight ‘uin naa’, this strange-looking thing called ‘mayo’ that catches your eye. And then there’s the sound! The taste, the smell – there are other foods that are just as good. But you know…”

PARRY!

The sound of Najina taking his second bite echoed again.

“Did you hear that? This delicious sound… This popping sound… It really pops… in your mouth… That ‘uuuuuuuuh’ sound, it bounces around inside your mouth when you bite into it. But that’s not all… Maybe because it’s wrapped in intestines, the oil from the meat doesn’t leak out. As you chew it, it warms up inside your mouth and melts. It’s so rich…”

“It’s unbearable,” Najina said with an ecstatic look on his face as he began to speak again. It was like something out of a gourmet manga.

“Also, I don’t know about it, is this thing called ‘Mayo’! Normally, with something as rich as ‘Uinnaa’, just sprinkling a little salt on it wouldn’t balance out the flavor! But, you know… this ‘Mayo’… it definitely doesn’t lose! The ‘Mayo’ alone is just as delicious and rich! It wraps around the ‘Uinnaa’. There’s no way it wouldn’t be delicious!”

When Najina said that, everyone around him exclaimed in unison, “Ohh.” Surprisingly, everyone was calm. If this were the store at lunchtime in an all-boys school, I imagine it would be a lot more hostile, or even murderous. I’m sure the atmosphere would be one of “let me buy it quickly.”

Perhaps it’s because it’s such an unknown bread that they’re waiting to see how it tastes… or perhaps they’re planning to buy it after seeing what it’s like.

“Let’s go to the table over there, buddy. If you don’t move, everyone in line won’t be able to buy anything.”

Wozma calmly did the same as Najina.

“Oh, yeah.”

Najina replied, but his tone was clearly toned down. He seemed to want to continue talking but gave up and headed towards the table next to ours. His back looked strangely lonely.

The next people in line were a group of four men who seemed to be a few years younger than me. They were looking at the bread with a deep interest, but what was distinctive about them was their atmosphere. How should I put it… they lived in Japan from the Showa era to the early Heisei era.

They were the kind of “delinquent” or “bad boy” that people say existed. They are the type of people I have never had any contact with in my life, so to be honest, they seemed quite scary.

“This is the ‘anpan’ that Najina’s brother was talking about.”

“Is this the ‘Korokkepan’ that Brother Wozma is recommending?”

“You idiot! Just say ‘jam bun’. Normally, just jam would send silver coins flying!”

“Meat, meat! All we have is “menchikatsupan”! Hey!”

At first, the four of them were fixated on the bread, but things gradually heated up over what to choose, and now they were on the verge of fighting. Then Najina came to the rescue.

“Can’t you guys just choose quietly? It’s causing trouble for my brother and grandma!”

Before I knew it, Najina had returned to the side of the sales area.

“Sorry, sorry!!”

The four of them apologized politely.

“But this is both Najina’s and my fault. Maybe I spoke too passionately about how delicious this bread was to them.”

Wozma gently followed up.

“Well, there’s no other way, you guys just choose quickly! I’ll pay for it.”

Saying this, Najina tried to take money out of the bin.

“I guess I’m half responsible too… Partner, you each get two pieces of silver. In return, once you’ve made your choice, come over here right away.”

“Thanks!”

Once again, the four of them bowed their heads beautifully.

….

The foursome, who regarded Najina and Wozma as literally ended their bread selection with ” “. They chose one sweet and one filling, like meat or croquette. Surprisingly, they all tended to be quite balanced.

They went to the table where Najina and Wozma were waiting and the six of them started eating bread. Then I remembered something I had forgotten.

“Excuse me, Maon-san. Please pour this tea into this,” he said, handing me a bag containing a paper cup and a two-liter plastic bottle of green tea drink, “Nama no Ocha.”

“Leave it to me!”

Maon took the tea and began pouring it into paper cups, placing them in the empty space on the table.

“Today, we will give you a free cup of this tea if you purchase an anpan (bean bun).”

“Hey! You’re so mean, big brother! Stop being so stingy, this is the “green tea” that can be said to be a good companion to “anpan”! The sweet “anpan” goes well with this bitter and astringent taste, and then the refreshing taste that comes afterwards… ugh, I can’t get enough of it!”

Najina’s way of speaking had changed to sound like that of a popular soccer commentator.

“Genta-san, can I join too?”

When I looked, one of the four delinquents who was choosing anpan called out to me.

“Of course, by all means!”

“Hmmm, is it good? It’s good!”

Najina-san said, looking more and more like someone.

“Yeehaw!”

One of the delinquents let out a voice that sounded like a turn-of-the-century Mohawk and took a sip of his tea.

“Ugh! Oh, that’s painful! But…”

Saying this, he took a big bite of the bean bun.

“Ahh, it feels so much better, it feels so much better!”

He was so moved that he was almost in tears. Anyway, I’m glad that he was happy.

Next up after the delinquents was a group of five elves. A combination of two men and three women. All of them were incredibly handsome. The beautiful elf at the front of the group smiled and spoke.

“I was looking forward to hearing from Sylphy that your bread is amazing.”

“Thank you very much… Umm. Sylphy-nee-sama means you’re Sylphy-san’s younger sister, right?”

“Hehe. Not because we’re related by blood though.”

A beautiful elf, different from the one at the front, joined the conversation.

“Human sisters are those born to the same parents, but we elves, who are close in age and raised in the same village, call each other “sisters” and actually grow up to be the same age.”

“Oh really…” I nodded as I placed the selected bread into its wrapping.

“Elf children are not raised by just their parents, but as children of the entire village. For young elves, everyone living in the village is a teacher who teaches them knowledge, magic, archery, etc., and can also be considered a parent who raises them. Even though we are not related by blood, we elves have a bond. Just like what humans would call parents and siblings.”

The male elf explained with a serious look.

“So, everyone here now…?”

“Yes, we grew up in the same village. Nice to meet you, Genta-san and Maon-san.”

The female elf at the front smiled.

With that, all five of them bought one bean bun each, three jam buns, and two cream buns.

“Elfens like fruit flavors and sweet things.”

Sylphy, who was standing next to me and watching over the bread sales, tells me about elven tastes.

“On the other hand, we don’t like things that are too spicy or have strong spices. However, spices are extremely expensive, so we don’t have many opportunities to eat them…”

I see… so depending on the race, there can be clear divisions in the foods they like and dislike…

This is important, when you meet someone of a new race, I’ll ask them their preferences.

I’ll listen to what they say and use it in the future. By the way, when I glanced at the table where the elves were sitting, they were sharing half of the jam bun and half of the cream bun, trying out each flavor. They also seemed to like the green tea that came with the bean paste bun.

Next up was a combination of a human male and a fox-man. Mia Alice, who I met yesterday, said that beastmen usually don’t stick out their ears or tails, but conversely, there are also beastmen who keep their ears and tails out in order to improve their senses and physical abilities.

Both of them were armed with not-so-large swords, giving the impression that they were adventurers who prioritized mobility. As for them, the human man had chosen a jam bun and a mayonnaise bun, while the beastman had chosen a bean-jam bun and a croquette bun.

Fox beastmen didn’t seem to have any particular taste buds. Thinking about this, I continued selling bread.

….

Thus, the first day of sales at the Adventurer’s Guild ended without a hitch, and all the bread was sold out. I had brought 94 loaves of bread with me. I wrote down the number again on the guild’s delivery request form and also filled out an application to join the Adventurer’s Guild.

I looked at the clock and it was just after seven in the morning, so it was just over an hour since I stared selling.

I ended up earning 47,000 yen in Japanese yen. Just thinking about how much that would be in hourly wages sends shivers down my spine.

That’s about 40,000 yen an hour, which is a great way to make money…

If sales increased a little more, and we could sell 100 units a day, which would be 50,000 yen. The purchase price itself would be less than 10,000 yen no matter how you look at it.

If you sell with two days off a week and a profit of 40,000 yen, that’s a little over 250 days a year, so 4 times 250 is 1,000. That’s an annual salary of 10 million yen!? Wow, that’s a pretty high-end salary! This isn’t just a part-time job, it’s amazing.

After tallying up the sales amount, I put the table in the sales corner back and walked towards the reception counter with Maon-san. I took with me an application form to join the adventurer’s guild, one silver coin as the joining fee, a bread delivery request form with the number of pieces written in (the only part that was left blank) and ten white copper coins as the usage fee for the sales corner today. I put all of these together on the reception counter.

Femi received it and checked to make sure there were no errors in the document. Behind her were Manny and Sylphy.

“Yes, there is no problem with the documents, and we have certainly received the required amount for both the membership fee and the commission.”

“So, now I’m a member of the Adventurer’s Guild?”

When I asked the three receptionists, they all came over with smiles on their faces.

“Welcome to the Min Adventurer’s Guild. We sincerely welcome you to join, Genta-sama!”

The three voices echoed in the guild.
