“Why did you think of going to your house?”
Si Huang asked calmly after packing her things.
Qin Fan’s gaze fell on her face. Then he walked over, took the bag from her hand, and walked out. “Grandpa and Grandma want to see you.”
Si Huang walked out with him, locked the gate, and then went to the garage to get their usual car.
Qin Fan took the initiative to sit in the driver’s seat and reached out for the car keys.
Si Huang didn’t refuse. She just sat in the passenger seat, fastened her seatbelt, and then continued, “Why would they want to see me?”
“Grandma Yu and my grandma have been friends for decades. She often mentions you to her.”
Thinking of Grandma Yu’s personality, Si Huang couldn’t help but smile gently. According to Grandma Yu’s way of doing things, she would definitely praise her to the skies.
“I’ve also mentioned you to Grandpa and Grandma.” Qin Fan skillfully drove the car out of the garage. After the remote-controlled garage door closed, the car drove all the way to the exit of the villa area. Slowing down at the gate, Qin Fan turned to look at her. “We’ll have to meet sooner or later.”
His tone was calm, but Si Huang sensed a determined edge in his voice.
She wasn’t averse to the occasional domineering behavior of this man, but… “I don’t want to get too involved in the elite circles of Beijing yet.”
“If it’s inconvenient for you, we can keep it a secret for now.” Qin Fan seemed to have anticipated her response, so he answered calmly. However, his next sentence shocked Si Huang: “But we can register our marriage secretly first.”
“…” Si Huang gave him a speechless sidelong glance.
The security guard opened the gate, and the car drove off, slowly entering the target avenue.
Grandma Yu and Old Master Tie didn’t live in the city or the suburbs, but rather in a village within Beijing’s jurisdiction.
Although it was a rural area, the economic conditions were quite good. Grandma Yu’s house was a small, pastoral-style villa, occupying a prime location nestled against the mountains and beside the water.
Si Huang deliberately wanting to give Grandma Yu a surprise, only called her after arriving at her residence.
“Grandma, did you miss me?”
She lowered her voice slightly, and her already beautiful voice became as gentle as if coated with honey, its amber-like clarity and sweetness reaching the heart.
Qin Fan couldn’t help but glance at her several times, feeling a slight pang of annoyance; he had never seen the child act so affectionately towards him before.
“Yes, I did!” Grandma Yu said happily on the other end of the phone, “Grandma thinks about Xiao Huang every day. You’ve been running around so much lately, aren’t you tired? You only just got back today, right? Did you have dinner?”
“I wanted to eat with Grandma,” Si Huang said with a smile. “How about it?”
“Oh, oh, oh, what do you mean ‘how about it’? It’ll definitely be great! Grandma misses Xiao Huang’s cooking so much! How about this, Grandma will go visit Xiao Huang tomorrow!”
As soon as she finished speaking, Si Huang heard Old Tie’s voice on the phone, saying that Grandma Yu was just fooling her and not allowing her to run around and get tired.
“Haha.” Si Huang laughed out loud, making Grandma Yu a little embarrassed. She stopped teasing and said into the phone, “It’s too late today. I’ll make breakfast for Grandma tomorrow, but Grandma has to come and open the door for me first.”
“Okay… Ah? Eh? Wait, Xiao Huang, it’s not what Grandma thinks, is it? Oh dear! Old Tie, hurry, hurry, go open the door!”
Hearing Grandma Yu’s excited shouts, like a young girl in love, Si Huang felt relaxed. Less than two minutes after hanging up the phone, the door in front of her opened.
She looked up at Grandma Yu and Old Tie with a smile, “Grandpa, Grandma.”
The affectionate address made Grandma Yu beam with joy, and Old Tie’s usually stern expression visibly relaxed. The next moment, seeing his wife rush towards Si Huang, grabbing her hand and showering her with concern, completely ignoring him, the loving old man’s face darkened again. His grandson being so doted on by his wife wasn’t necessarily a good thing!
Grandma Yu was undoubtedly overjoyed that day, chatting incessantly while holding Si Huang’s hand, her possessiveness obvious, excluding the two men, one old and one young.
It wasn’t until almost nine o’clock that Old Tie finally couldn’t bear it any longer and let Grandma Yu rest.
Si Huang also persuaded Grandma Yu to stop, then went to the kitchen to prepare the ingredients for tomorrow’s medicinal soup.
Grandma Yu’s family never lacked medicinal herbs. Si Huang was slicing ginseng when she heard soft footsteps. Turning her head, she saw the man standing beside her, leaning against the cabinet.
Qin Fan stood with his arms crossed, his eyes slightly narrowed, staring at her, his gaze dark and deep, lost in thought.
“What are you looking at?” Si Huang asked.
The man paused for half a second, seemingly before snapping out of his daze, and replied, “You’re beautiful.”
Si Huang’s lips curled slightly, showing little reaction to his words. After slicing the ginseng into appropriate portions, she processed other medicinal herbs, asking without looking up, “How long can you rest after this mission?”
“Uncertain,” Qin Fan replied, recalling the events of the mission. He had been somewhat agitated, but seeing the figure in his line of sight brought him back to his calm. “This mission involved many things, and we still need to continue investigating. It won’t be over anytime soon.”
“Oh, that sounds troublesome.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she felt someone approach, and then her waist was encircled by a pair of arms.
The man’s body temperature, much higher than hers, was clearly felt by Si Huang even through two layers of clothing. She was slightly unaccustomed to this position, but after standing there for a couple of seconds and seeing that the man showed no sign of letting go, she relaxed and let him be.
“Huang Huang.”
“Hmm? Xiao Qilin?”
“Pfft.”
The child’s competitive nature sometimes seemed adorable to Qin Fan.
He enjoyed the tranquility brought to him by the person in his arms, feeling somewhat addicted.
If it were a year ago, and someone suddenly told him he would fall in love with someone, to the extent of being addicted to them, he would have absolutely scoffed and wouldn’t have dared to even think about it.
Si Huang turned her head, unable to bear the man’s breath on her neck, yet also somewhat curious about Qin Fan’s smiling face.
Then a heavy chin rested on her left shoulder. “Come to my house tomorrow. My grandmother has been taking care of Grandma Yu’s health; you’ll have things to talk about.”
Si Huang felt that Qin Fan was gentler than usual; not only had his terrifying aura subsided, but his voice was also deeper, highlighting its sexy magnetism, making her heart itch when he spoke in her ear.
“Okay.” She sighed inwardly. She hadn’t originally wanted to get involved in these things so early, but if he was willing to compromise a bit, she was happy to make concessions for him.
“You can let go now; it’s inconvenient for me like this.” Si Huang tugged at his arm.
Qin Fan stared at the flawless profile so close to his face, lowered his head and kissed it, then let go and turned to leave the kitchen.
Si Huang silently wiped her face with the back of her hand before continuing her work.
