She drank too quickly, spilling water everywhere.

In no time, she’d emptied more than half the bottle, finally gasping for breath. But everything was pitch black; she couldn’t see anything, and she didn’t know who had given her the water.

In that situation, even if the bottle contained poison, she could have gulped it down.

“Brother Long…is that you?” Du Weiwei couldn’t see anything, but she remembered Xiao Bin saying that if she didn’t go back, he wouldn’t come to save her.

A flicker of expectation flashed in her lifeless eyes.

Xiao Bin’s hands slowly clenched into fists, his eyes turning icy cold. Hearing Du Weiwei call out another man’s name, and with such expectation, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of self-mockery.

“Brother Long, Brother Long, I know it’s you, it must be you. Please, take me away from here. I don’t want to stay here, please take me away!”

Du Weiwei gripped the bedsheets tightly. There were no beds in the observation point, but Du Weiwei’s condition was so pitiful that a makeshift bed had been set up there.

There was no sound in her ears. Du Weiwei didn’t know when the person had left, but now she had nothing and could see nothing. She could only place her hopes on Qin Long.

“I regret it…” Du Weiwei cried, the tears streaming down her face like salt being rubbed into a wound.

“Brother Long, I’m sorry, I know I was wrong before, you’ll forgive me, right? Actually, actually, I fell in love with you the moment you saved me. I was stupid, I was foolish, I never realized it…”

As Du Weiwei kept muttering, Qin Long happened to reach the entrance of the checkpoint, saw Xiao Bin, and heard Du Weiwei’s words.

Qin Long stopped at the door, a fleeting look of surprise crossing his expressionless face.

Du Weiwei liked him? How could that be!

He would believe it if Du Weiwei didn’t like him, had no feelings for him, or was even afraid of him, but even if he liked Du Weiwei, he didn’t believe for a second that Du Weiwei would like him.

“Heh… I’m not Qin Long, are you disappointed?” Xiao Bin’s voice rang out, exceptionally cold.

Du Weiwei froze. She hadn’t expected that the person who came wouldn’t be anyone else, but rather Xiao Bin, whom she thought was unlikely to come. She was incredibly tense.

“Xiao Bin… listen to me, don’t misunderstand, listen to me,” Du Weiwei stammered.

“Fine, go ahead, I’m listening.” Xiao Bin’s voice was icy cold. He glanced back at Qin Long standing in the doorway, signalling him to be quiet.

Looking at Du Weiwei with mockery, he realized he had never truly understood her.

Finally, seeing Du Weiwei’s pitiful state, the worry and discomfort in his heart gradually disappeared.

Qin Long saw Xiao Bin’s gaze and, in turn, remained silent, looking at Du Weiwei with a complex expression. She looked terrifying; the peeling skin on her face looked as if it could be ripped off layer by layer.

He had originally planned that if Xiao Bin abandoned Du Weiwei because of her disfigurement, he would take her away.

But he wasn’t stupid; his willingness to take her away was one thing. But Du Weiwei’s manipulation of his feelings to get him to take her away was another matter entirely.

If Du Weiwei had simply asked Qin Long to take her away, without adding the ridiculous claim that she had already fallen for him, Qin Long would definitely have taken her away.

Unfortunately, there were no “ifs.” And Du Weiwei didn’t understand Qin Long either.

“Xiao Bin, I was just talking nonsense. You know I only have you in my heart. From the moment I met you, my heart has been unable to hold anyone else.”

“My heart is very, very small… it can only hold one person.”

Du Weiwei’s eyes were unfocused, she could only locate Xiao Bin by his voice, gazing deeply into his eyes.

“No, I can’t bear your love.” Xiao Bin looked at Du Weiwei with disdain, he had never looked at her with such disdain before. Even when Du Weiwei was first disfigured, he hadn’t looked at her with such disdain.

“You, you dislike me?” Du Weiwei sensed the extreme disdain in his tone and her eyes filled with confusion.

“Yes, I dislike you, very much.” Xiao Bin didn’t want to listen to her nonsense anymore and turned to leave. Seeing Qin Long standing at the door, a mocking smile appeared on his face, though it was unclear whether he was laughing at himself or Qin Long.

“Your Qin Long is here. You’d better think carefully about how you’re going to explain this to him.”

Du Weiwei was somewhat dazed, unable to recover for a long time. She wasn’t sure if Qin Long had really come, or if Xiao Bin was deliberately testing her.

Watching Xiao Bin walk far away, his back exuding a desolate and lonely air,

Qin Long turned back to Du Weiwei, strode in, and stood by the bed: “Have you thought it through? Are you really going to leave here?”

His dark eyes quietly looked at Du Weiwei, waiting for her reply.

Du Weiwei opened her mouth: “I…”

But before she could finish, Qin Long interrupted her: “I don’t want to hear anything else. I just want to know. Do you really want me to take you away from here, or do you not want to leave and continue staying in the base?”

“Take me away, take me away from here. I don’t want to stay here, I don’t want to!” Du Weiwei said in fear, reaching out to grab Qin Long, but he dodged her.

“I understand.” Qin Long nodded. “Eat something first, and I’ll take you away in a bit.”

He placed the bread he had prepared earlier in Du Weiwei’s hand.

Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. Du Weiwei sobbed softly. She truly regretted it now. If only she hadn’t come to the D City base with Brother Long.

Brother Long had been so good to her; even in the apocalypse, she could have lived a good life.

….

666 drove for a long time without reaching D City. He slammed on the brakes. The tires screeched harshly on the ground.

Opening the car door, 666 got out. The sky had already darkened.

“Logically, we should be in D City by now.” 666 frowned, circling the car once. The surroundings were shrouded in a gray gloom.

666 leaned against the side, took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag, slowly exhaling rings of white smoke.

His dark eyes were calm as he looked in the direction he had travelled from. He should have sensed something was wrong long ago, but he overlooked it because he was in a hurry to get to D City.

This was the apocalypse, yet even at night, it was too quiet here.

Moreover, he didn’t know when it started, but the road was spotless.

There wasn’t a single abandoned car, no mangled limbs, and no trace of blood on the national highway. It was truly, extremely clean.

He quietly leaned against the car, smoking until the cigarette burned out.

“Will you remove it yourself or should I do it?” 666 said coldly, “If I do it, you’ll get hurt. When I kill you, you won’t have any resistance at all.”

707 sat cross-legged in a room on the outskirts of D City. Strange patterns were drawn in blood around the room, somewhat resembling an array.

And she sat in the very center of the array.

Before her lay a bead, the very same water-repelling bead. But now, a tall, slender man appeared within it, his usually calm eyes now holding a wicked smile.

707 muttered incantations.

666’s ears twitched slightly, his gaze warily fixed ahead, his voice icy: “Looks like you want me to make the move. Fine, I’ll kill you first, you traitor.”

With that, he swiftly retreated a few steps.

A surging tide approached from afar. 666 stomped down, and the concrete road cracked and burst open, chunks of stone coalescing to propel him high into the air.

No matter how the tide pounded, the towering pillar of stones remained unmoved, let alone 666 standing atop it.

666 squinted, looking around, trying to find a way out.

Just then, the tide receded, and a light drizzle began to fall, gradually increasing until it was as if the sky had leaked, with huge columns of water gushing down.

He stretched out his hand, palm up, his hand seemingly containing immense energy, blocking the descending water column.

After 707 and 666 clashed, Fu Ke devoured handfuls of crystal cores. She discovered that blocking her blood-red eyes slowed her absorption of the cores considerably.

Fortunately, she removed her contact lenses.

Zhang Zhongmin slowly awoke, and the first thing he saw was a pair of people with blood-red eyes. Before he could even make out who they were, he rolled off the sofa, instantly assuming an attack stance.

Meanwhile, chaos erupted at the D City base.

Those who had been unconscious slowly awoke; some had turned into zombies, others into superhumans. However, those who became superhumans possessed heightened senses, and by the time Liu Guo’an and his team arrived, the zombies had already been restrained.

“Phew, thank goodness, nothing serious happened.” So much had happened lately that Liu Guo’an had completely forgotten he should have separated and tied everyone up after the rain stopped.

Thankfully, the zombies were all tied up and none escaped.

“Everyone’s awake. Is the squad leader awake too?” Liu Guo’an’s eyes lit up, but seeing Xiao Bin looking somewhat distracted, he couldn’t help but nudge him: “What’s wrong?”

“I’m fine, I’m going to check if the squad leader’s awake.” Xiao Bin turned and walked outside.

“Wait, I’ll go check too.” Lu Xun quickly followed.

Liu Guo’an sighed and ordered his men to kill the zombies and extract their crystal cores.

Jian Yilun, the captain of Squad 1 of Class 5, looked around and then asked Mo Zaiting, “Have you seen Qin Long? Why isn’t he here?”

“Brother Long?” Lin Jing heard Jian Yilun’s words, turned around and looked around, touching his head, “He really isn’t here. It’s strange, I remember he was here before.”

Mo Zaiting looked at Jian Yilun, “Could he have gone to see that person?”

“Let’s go, let’s go check. Du Weiwei’s observation time is up, right?” Jian Yilun was worried and started walking out.

“I think it’s up…”

When the group arrived, they heard the people at the observation point say that Qin Long had taken Du Weiwei away. Lin Jing was stunned for a moment, “Has Brother Long lost his mind? That woman is disfigured!”

Mo Zaiting and Jian Yilun looked at each other.

After asking around, they learned that Qin Long hadn’t taken Du Weiwei back to the dormitory. Instead, he had taken her away from the base.

“This is utter nonsense! Mo Zaiting, go and get some people, we need to go and bring Qin Long back.” Jian Yilun immediately became anxious: “Lin Jing, I’ll go after Qin Long, you go and inform Fu Ke. I’ll leave marks along the way.”
