Looking around, most of the room was filled with bookshelves.

A rather ordinary-looking embroidered screen separated the room in the middle, and at the back was a very small bedroom, furnished with a half-new bed and a small red lacquered wooden bedside cabinet. Jiu Jin nearly exploded with rage. She grabbed Mama Hu by the chest and dragged her into the room, pointing at the furnishings and sarcastically saying, “Is this what you said, a room ready with everything you need?”

Who were they kidding? They were obviously old items.

This Governor’s Mansion was so poor, who were they putting on an act for?

Mama Hu quickly hunched her neck and arched her shoulders, raising her hands to shield her head from further blows, repeatedly crying out, “Oh, Miss Yu, dear girl, I’ve been traveling with you all the way here, sleeping in the open air. I didn’t take care of this room in the mansion, so how can you blame me?”

“Alright, let’s get everything out of the carriage first,” Yu Linlang said, her face remaining calm.

“Hurry up!” Jiu Jin shouted, grabbing Mama Hu by the collar and striding out. “Don’t try any tricks on me! Call more people! Stop dithering.”

She was now like a powder keg, ready to explode at any moment. Mama Hu dared not provoke her again, so she could only obey and leave.

It took three trips back and forth before everything in the carriage was finally brought back to the courtyard.

Mama Hu stood in the courtyard, her lips twitching as she looked at the bedding and utensils thrown at the door, with a look of hesitation, “Should all these be moved out?”

“Why pile them up here if not moved out?” Jiu Jin was furious, “Who are you embarrassing? How could my miss sleep on a bed that someone else has slept in?”

“Your second miss Pianpian is so noble, just carry these things back to her. My miss can’t afford them.”

Mama Hu looked embarrassed, “But if all this is thrown away, where will the miss sleep tonight? Madam is in charge of the household and is busy every day. Maybe she forgot to order someone to replace the things in this room. Otherwise, please make do with it for one night, and report to Madam tomorrow and then…”

“Forget it!” Jiu Jin shouted angrily, waving her hands, “Just carry all these junks out, and don’t bother with the rest! Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go.”

“Oh, oh, Miss Jiu Jin.” Mama Hu was pushed out of the door by Jiu Jin. She had no choice but to ask the maids who were looking at each other in bewilderment to move all the sundries piled at the door out of the courtyard.

“Oh, what a big scene, are they going to tear down the house?” A sneer came.

“The eldest lady is back.” Mama Hu glanced at the person who came and quickly lowered her head to suppress the look of watching the show in her eyes.

Oh, if Miss Yu and the eldest lady bump into each other, I’m afraid there will be a big fight.

Both of them were not easy to deal with.

“If you don’t know, you would think that some princess has come to the house. Oh, there are so many things piled up in the yard, who are you showing off to?” Yu Qiuping walked into the door, waving her silk handkerchief. She looked around and saw that there were many pots of grass and various sundries piled up in the courtyard. Her eyes narrowed.

“What are you doing?” Yu Qiuping scolded in a serious tone. “This courtyard isn’t just for some people. Who are you trying to annoy by piling these miscellaneous sticks and weeds in the corridor? Hong Lai, Lu Cai, why are you just standing there? Why don’t you help me throw all this junk out?”

“Yes, Miss.” The two little maids walked forward. Before they could even touch Yu Linlang’s luggage, they were almost hit by a firewood stick and retreated in fear.

“I want to see who dares to touch my miss’s things.” Jiu Jin weighed the stick in her hand and looked at Yu Qiuping, whose face was ashen.

Yu Linlang walked out of the room and her eyes fell on the eldest daughter, Yu Qiuping.

Compared to the beautiful second daughter, Miss Pianpian, this eldest daughter seemed much plainer, only worthy of the word “pretty”. Coupled with her slightly yellowish skin, she looked a bit dull.

“Jiu Jin, move all the things into the house.” Yu Linlang was too lazy to talk to others and turned to look at Mama Hu. “Mama, please clear away the debris at the gate of the courtyard.”

Mama Hu curled her lips, feeling a bit of regret at not having seen the fight between the eldest daughter and this person.

Yu Qiuping stared at Yu Linlang, who turned and walked back into the house, with a sullen look on her face. “Hmph, some people shouldn’t think they can act like legitimate daughters just because they’ve returned. The position of legitimate daughter in this mansion has long been taken, and it will be difficult to reclaim it. It’s best not to have those useless fantasies, so as not to bring trouble upon yourself in the future.”

She turned and walked into the west wing, pausing before entering and said coldly, “Yu Pianpian is a bookworm. I advise you to touch anything but her precious books. If you do, be careful or the mistress might kick you out of the mansion tonight. Also, this courtyard is for public use. Don’t leave all that junk outside and cause trouble.”

With that, she slammed the door shut.

Jiu Jin waved a fire poker at the door opposite and snorted coldly.

She moved with remarkable swiftness, carrying over a dozen boxes of potted plants into the house in a matter of seconds. Rolling up her sleeves, she looked at the bookshelves. “Miss, I’ll move these shelves over to the side.”

“No, I can do it myself,” Yu Linlang waved her hand casually. “You put up the tables, chairs, beds, and cabinets first.”

“Okay!” Jiu Jin nodded, running outside to carry the wooden planks and boards piled on the floor into the house.

“Thank goodness we were prepared, or we’d have been caught completely off guard,” the girl grumbled as she skilfully assembled the tables and chairs.

The thin planks and strips were like toys in her hands, assembled in just a few strokes.

Any other carpenter present would have been amazed.

Yu Linlang walked directly to the rows of bookshelves and, with a flick of her hand, the rows vanished before her eyes.

When they reappeared, three rows had formed, nestled against the north corner. The bookshelves were pressed tightly against each other, and except for the first three shelves, where books could be browsed, the rest were squeezed back.

This created a large clearing in front of the window, making the entire east wing feel less crowded.

Jiu Jin completely ignored her miss’s miraculous teleportation skills, clearly accustomed to them.

She set up the tables, chairs, bed, and cabinets, then grabbed a broom and dustpan from her luggage and began to clean the room.

In less than half an hour, the room was, if not brand new, at least in perfect order.

Jiu Jin then assembled a beautiful couch, covered it with soft silk, and placed it by the window, then drew a plain curtain over the bed.

She stood with her hands on her hips, looking around. “I still have to go shopping tomorrow.”

“No need to bother,” Yu Linlang said calmly as she sat down. “I won’t be staying here long anyway.”

“At least I need to buy a screen,” Jiu Jin said, peeking out the window. “The windows and door need to be redone, and they need locks.”

Yu Linlang didn’t object, after all, there were other people living in the courtyard.

“Miss, you must be tired. I’ll get you some water to wash.”
