Only then did Yang Shao sense that something was amiss. Indeed, as Gu Wuji had said, these corpses had been guiding them ever since, and he’d been so preoccupied with dealing with them that he’d completely failed to notice.

The middle-aged man was stunned by Gu Wuji’s words. Then a sudden surge of fear filled him, as he suspected he was trying to silence him. “No, I’m a human! Believe me!”

“No, I was just talking to the ghost behind you. Seriously, it’s the ghost attached to this tricycle,” Gu Wuji said. He had just been driving when his memory suddenly returned. It had all happened so suddenly, and at that moment, he sensed that something was amiss with the tricycle.

The middle-aged man was startled. “You mean the ghost was always in the tricycle?!” He suddenly felt blessed to have lived this long, and his heart was suddenly filled with a love for life.

“No, it was probably attached the moment I kicked the corpse off the car.” Gu Wuji looked at the middle-aged man again: “Of course you can’t be in trouble, you also have to teach me how to turn this tricycle around…”

“What, you want to go back?” The middle-aged man hurriedly said: “There are so many ghosts behind! We will die!”

Yang Shao looked at Gu Wuji in surprise and suddenly understood something. He then gritted his teeth and said to the middle-aged man: “Don’t talk nonsense, listen to him if you want to live!”

The middle-aged man also gritted his teeth and made up his mind suddenly. Although it was mainly because he had no strength at all, it was also partly because Gu Wuji suddenly became extremely reliable, making people subconsciously want to listen to him.

Under the guidance of the middle-aged man, Gu Wuji successfully turned the tricycle around and drove straight towards the countless corpses on the way. “Actually, I was just thinking that this place can’t really have so many corpses to use… To be able to maintain the illusion of so many powerful ghosts, judging from the power of the previous evil ghost, this evil ghost must not be that strong.”

If it was the most powerful evil ghost boss in this copy, Gu Wuji might still hesitate. But for an ordinary evil ghost, it would not matter.

When Gu Wuji said this, Yang Shao and the middle-aged man clearly felt the car body seeming to tremble. Obviously, the evil ghost was emotionally excited because of Gu Wuji’s words.

After all, Gu Wuji’s casual statement that the evil ghost was not that strong was too humiliating to the ghost, but what he said was true! Yang Shao still remembered the evil ghost being beaten by him before.

Gu Wuji remained unmoved by the tricycle’s condition, continuing, “So it’s definitely not a power this evil spirit possesses. Therefore, most of these corpses are probably just illusions, used to scare us… Normally, a frightened person wouldn’t turn around to see what’s happening.”

As he finished speaking, the tricycle slammed into several corpses. But just as Gu Wuji had predicted, they all dissipated into mist. The only real corpse was purified by Gu Wuji with a simple wave of his hand.

“It’s actually real…” The middle-aged man was stunned, especially by Gu Wuji’s final purification technique. To someone like him, it looked like the corpse was reduced to ashes with a wave of his hand. The middle-aged man began to suspect Gu Wuji was some kind of expert.

“Then why did we turn back?” Yang Shao looked at Gu Wuji with a complicated expression, but it was clear that he was completely convinced.

“After all, this is an illusion based on the ghost’s final moments,” Gu Wuji said. “I think it wants to leave this place, not return to the village. The village is like a demonic den to it. We’re making a mistake heading towards it. Only by leaving here completely… will it be a relief for both us and the ghost.”

At Gu Wuji’s words, Yang Shao and the middle-aged man fell silent. While the tricycle remained motionless.

Even so, Gu Wuji effortlessly drove toward the village’s edge, purifying many real corpses along the way. Then, amid the middle-aged man’s exclamations, they entered a tunnel.

At that moment, all three of them felt a distinct sensation of traveling through time and space, as if they had escaped from some other dimension…

A phantom image suddenly appeared before their eyes: a man slowly leaving the village, only to be brutally captured and brought back, then killed alive as a sacrifice.

His last glance was at the world outside the village. Before this incident, he had intended to pursue his dreams beyond the village. But now, everything was over.

But after the man’s death, the scene didn’t fade. Instead, it reappeared, depicting the sacrificial offering. Gu Wuji’s eyes flickered around the corner, and he was startled. He spotted a familiar face in the crowd: the village chief, though he appeared much younger, perhaps in his twenties.

The village chief, seemingly arriving secretly, showed a look of satisfaction upon seeing the scene before him, then hurried away.

“Is it him? Even if the village chief took good care of himself, he can’t still look this young after so many decades.” The fact that the village chief wasn’t human wasn’t surprising, but what concerned Gu Wuji was his role in this dungeon.

“It seems we need to delve deeper into what happened back then.”

Then, the scene before everyone’s eyes went dark. When light finally returned, they found themselves in the middle-aged man’s home. The evil spirit that the man had transformed into, harboring resentment, sought revenge on the entire village.

But as it gazed in a certain direction, it felt a sense of fear. It then abandoned its quest for revenge and prepared to leave the village with Gu Wuji and the others.

Just as they were about to leave, some twisted force disrupted the road outside the village, transforming it into a strange, ethereal space. The ghost was helpless, unable to warn Gu Wuji and the others, and could only possess the tricycle.

As for Xiao Qin, it seemed like a complete coincidence. The ghost had no idea where Xiao Qin had gone, simply realizing they were missing someone and using the corpse to approach.

“So that’s how it is. It seems this evil spirit isn’t deliberately targeting us, it’s just the way this village is set up,” Gu Wuji nodded. “Or maybe I misunderstood it.”

“This evil spirit is actually afraid of something. It must be the evil spirit boss.” Yang Shao’s expression was solemn. The direction the evil spirit was looking was clearly the village chief’s residence.

“Anyway, we’ll find out when we go back and investigate,” Gu Wuji had already begun to think.

After the image faded, the three of them were greeted by a bright light. By then, daylight had slowly dawned. They had all unknowingly fallen asleep on the tricycle, and when they looked up, they saw the tricycle not far from the village entrance.

It seemed that they entered the illusion just after leaving the village last night. Looking towards the outside of the village, there was also fog, and the road was completely invisible.

“It seems that we have finally solved the problem of the evil spirit.” Gu Wuji said, “But the bad news is that this village probably really can’t be left.”

“There is nothing we can do about it.” Anyway, Gu Wuji had recovered his memory, and Yang Shao was too lazy to continue pretending, so he said directly: “I guess we can only wait until the day when the copy is over, but I don’t know if we can live to see that day.”

The middle-aged man looked at the two of them tremblingly, and then carefully took out the banknotes on his body, handed them to Yang Shao and apologized again.

How could he dare to provoke these two big guys who were obviously not ordinary people? Thinking that he had tried to trick them before, the middle-aged man was covered in cold sweat.

But Yang Shao directly refused, “It’s useless for us to hold this thing, just keep it for yourself.”

The middle-aged man hesitated for a moment before taking the money back. After all, he saw that Gu Wuji had a righteous look on his face. No matter how you looked at him, he was a good man with correct values. He wouldn’t kill someone over such a trivial matter.

“But everything isn’t settled yet,” Gu Wuji said. “We still don’t know this village well enough. I think we need a guide… and I think you’d be perfect for that.”

The middle-aged man was suddenly startled by Gu Wuji’s kind and gentle smile. Why had he previously thought Gu Wuji looked so righteous? This guy was clearly a white-and-black guy!

“Are you still going to refuse?” Yang Shao had already consciously put himself in the position of Gu Wuji’s henchman. “You saw what happened last night. Do you think you can get away with it? If you don’t follow us, you’ll be dead soon. You know how dangerous this village is.”

The middle-aged man nodded quickly. Yang Shao’s words made him feel that he had to cling to the thighs of these two big men.

“Come to think of it, what happened to Xiao Qin?” Gu Wuji frowned again. “He was following us before, how could he suddenly disappear… Judging from the flashbacks, it shouldn’t have been the evil spirit’s doing, but something else.”

Although dying in a dungeon was normal, and Xiao Qin’s chances of survival were slim, he was still a teammate after all, so Gu Wuji still hoped to save him.

“Well, I think…” the middle-aged man began carefully, “He might have been captured by another sacrificial evil spirit. The building with the seven sealed coffins… some time ago, due to some issues, a family insisted on throwing the coffins outside the village, right where you were waiting.”

“What?” Gu Wuji was stunned. “Where is that location? And you’d better tell me what that evil spirit is involved in!”

….

Xiao Qin, his face covered in sweat, was hiding behind a tree. He slowly walked towards the village under the cover of the trees, avoiding those terrifying beings.

Thinking back to what he had just seen, he felt a vague sense of dread. But his excitement was so intense that his mind kept revisiting his memories. Although they hadn’t fully recovered, they were almost there.

“I didn’t expect the rumor to be true!” he thought to himself. “Luckily, I saw it. Otherwise, wouldn’t everyone have been misled?”

“I have to leave here. As long as I leave this place, I can tell others and have a chance to leave this dungeon!”
