After sorting Ning Ning’s photos, Ling Qing looked at his own photo album.
He was too embarrassed to show it to Butler Wang, so he shooed him out.
Butler Wang teased him, “Why are you hiding it? It’s not your wedding photos, right.”
“It’s not like you’ve not seen our wedding photos, Uncle Wang.”
Butler Wang sighed, “It’s been a while.”
Ling Qing helplessly said, “You’ve seen them eighty times, haven’t you?”
“It’s always new.”
Ling Qing: …
Ling Qing felt his wedding photos weren’t nearly as captivating!
He pushed Butler Wang out and flipped through his own photo album.
There were many photos—of him alone, of him and Yu Chen, and of the three of them as a family.
But the majority were of him and Yu Chen.
Ever since Yu Chen started taking photos of the baby to document his growth, he’d occasionally snapped some of Ling Qing’s photos, documenting his transformation year by year.
Ling Qing didn’t notice at first, but then he started dragging him along, and eventually, most of the photos were of the two of them together.
He scanned the pictures, seeing him and Yu Chen standing in the garden watering flowers under a bright spring sun, or walking by the seaside on a summer afternoon, their faces beaming with smiles.
They’d climbed a mountain together in the fall, him leaning on Yu Chen’s shoulder, seemingly a little sleepy.
They’d built a giant snowman together in the winter, his hands cold, and Yu Chen held them and blew on them.
Picture by picture, page by page, year by year, the tenderness in Yu Chen’s eyes never faded, his love always evident.
Ling Qing recalled a drama he’d filmed. In it, he played a deeply devoted singer. He confessed his love to the lead actress, who asked, “How long can you love me?”
He replied, “My whole life. I’ll sing for you while I live and pray for you even after I die.”
The actress smiled and accepted his confession.
But it felt unreal to Ling Qing.
He had always distrusted love, and even less so the idea of a lifelong love. But when the other person became Yu Chen, his disbelief seemed to become credible.
He believed in Yu Chen’s love, and only Yu Chen.
Ling Qing slowly closed the photo album and put it back in the cabinet.
He checked his watch and prepared to go pick up Ning Ning from school.
Before picking up Ning Ning, he stopped by Yu Chen’s office.
“Why are you here?” Yu Chen asked in surprise.
“To invite you to come with me to pick Ning Ning up from school,” Ling Qing said with a smile.
“Together? I still have work to do.” Yu Chen waved the papers in his hand.
Ling Qing walked over and pulled him up. “Take it home and do it. Today is Ning Ning’s first day of kindergarten. We took him there together, so we should pick him up together as well.”
Yu Chen thought about it and agreed.
Every first time in a child’s life was precious. Children remembered it, and adults should make it as perfect as possible.
He stood up, tidied his desk, grabbed a few documents he needed to review, and left the office with Ling Qing.
Secretary Sun, already used to it, politely said goodbye to Ling Qing. Looking at their harmonious backs, she sighed that today was also a good day for romance.
At 4:30, Sunflower Kindergarten got dismissed on time. Ning Ning said goodbye to his deskmate and walked out.
He cautiously peeked over and, sure enough, saw his two fathers not far away.
The teacher leaned over and said, “Ning Ning, you’ve been very good today. Your dads are here to pick you up. Bye, we’ll see you tomorrow.”
Ning Ning happily waved back, “See you tomorrow.”
With that, he sprinted towards Ling Qing, his small schoolbag on his shoulder and his short legs pumping.
“Dad,” he said, hugging Ling Qing.
Ling Qing picked him up and asked, “Was Ning Ning good today?”
“Very good,” Ning Ning replied.
“So, is school fun?”
Ning Ning thought for a moment. “Sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it’s not.”
“When is it fun, and when isn’t it?”
“It’s fun when we’re playing games, but not when the teacher tells us not to move.”
Ling Qing laughed.
Ning Ning put his arms around his neck. “But now that Ning Ning sees Dad, it doesn’t seem so bad anymore.”
“You have such a sweet mouth,” Ling Qing poked his lips.
Ning Ning smiled with his eyes curved, then turned around and stretched out his hand to grab Yu Chen’s arm, “Ning Ning is happy to see Daddy too.”
“Really?” Yu Chen deliberately teased him, “I thought you couldn’t see me.”
“I see, I see.” Ning Ning explained, “Ning Ning’s arms are too short, I can only hug Dad, I can’t hug both Daddy and Dad at the same time.”
He then stretched out his arms for Yu Chen to hug him, Ling Qing let go, and Yu Chen took him and hugged him.
Ning Ning looked up and kissed him, “Daddy, kiss Ning Ning too. If you kiss, it means you like Ning Ning.”
“Then if you don’t kiss, does that mean you don’t like Ning Ning?” Yu Chen asked him.
Ning Ning pouted, “You can’t not kiss, you have to kiss me, and you have to like Ning Ning.”
Yu Chen and Ling Qing were both touched by his words. Ling Qing scratched his face. While Yu Chen leaned in and kissed his little cheek.
“Yeah, of course I have to. Our Ning Ning is so adorable, who wouldn’t like him?”
“Does Daddy like me?”
“Of course I do.”
“Does he like Ning Ning the most?” Ning Ning asked.
“I like your dad the most, and then I like Ning Ning the most,” Yu Chen said seriously.
Ning Ning didn’t get angry when he heard this, and raised his hand to indicate, “Ning Ning likes Dad the most, too.”
“Yeah, we all like your dad the most,” he said, smiling at Ling Qing.
Ling Qing was a little embarrassed, shyly avoiding looking at him.
But Ning Ning still had to ask him, “Who does Dad like the most?”
Ling Qing: …
“Who does Dad like the most, Ning Ning or Daddy?” Ning Ning asked curiously.
Ling Qing looked at him, then at Yu Chen, who looked expectant, and couldn’t help but smile.
“I love your daddy the most.” He kissed Ning Ning’s cheek. “And because I love your daddy the most, Ning Ning was born.”
“I loved Xiao Yu first, then this Xiao Yu was born, and then I loved this Xiao Yu.”
“So does that mean you don’t love Ning Ning the most?” Ning Ning tilted his head.
“I love Ning Ning the most too,” Ling Qing smiled. “I love both Daddy and Ning Ning the most.”
Ning Ning was delighted, shyly leaning into Yu Chen’s arms, clutching his clothes and smiling.
Yu Chen and Ling Qing exchanged a glance before leaving the kindergarten, opening the car door and putting Ning Ning in, and then gently kissing.
A gentle breeze blew, and the past slowly became cherished in memories. The future had just begun.
