There were still many shops open across the street, and the street lights illuminated the body of the car. A mother and daughter walked by. The little girl looked at the two of them with her watery eyes, while the young mother blushed and covered her eyes.

The little girl asked in a baby voice: “Mom, what is that brother doing?”

Her mother hurriedly pulled her away: “Be good, don’t ask.”

Jiang Sui tensed her toes and reached out to push Chi Yan away. She felt that even her toes must have been stained pink.

The man kissed her so hard, but just as she pushed him gently, he seemed to wake up, then he raised his body a little, and looked down at her.

This must have been the hottest night in this early winter. Jiang Sui heard the conversation between the mother and daughter and felt that their actions just now were simply shameful on such an occasion.

She gasped for breath and her face turned red.

Jiang Sui even felt that her brain was unable to think due to lack of oxygen. The courage she had just shown when she took the initiative disappeared in an instant, and the shyness of a young girl returned.

The man’s arms were still placed on both sides of her. Jiang Sui lowered her body and got out from under his arms. Then she hummed as softly as a mosquito: “Let’s go home first.”

Chi Yan pursed his lips tightly and opened the car door for her.

Jiang Sui sat inside. She must have been crazy just now. She must have used up all her courage in her life tonight.

Chi Yan took out his cell phone. He had just received two calls on the mobile phone in his pocket, but he ignored them.

It was Shui Yang calling, Chi Yan called back: “What’s the matter?”

His voice was low and deep, echoing in the car. Chi Yan glanced sideways and saw a pair of sparkling peach eyes.

She glanced at him furtively, then quickly turned away to look at the neon lights outside the window. Chi Yan couldn’t understand such timid behavior from her.

Shui Yang said worriedly, “Boss, something seems to be wrong with the Third Master. Dai Youwei from the hospital has been transferred, and so has Liang Qian’er. I think we may have to move back to Hengxia Island earlier.”

Chi Yan felt as if a basin of cold water was suddenly poured on him, waking him up from his current state of confusion.

He replied calmly: “Got it, keep watching over there.” After hanging up the phone, Chi Yan started the car and drove towards home.

Jiang Sui knew nothing about all this, and the man remained silent until they were almost home. Jiang Sui tightened her seat belt and couldn’t help but accuse him: “Chi Yan, you haven’t answered my question yet.”

A stubborn and troublesome girl.

Chi Yan frowned: “You’ve been drinking, you’re not sober.”

Jiang Sui said seriously: “I drank three cups of beer, I’m not drunk.”

Chi Yan felt as if his heart was being torn apart by a knife. He recalled the kiss he had just given and the phone call from Shui Yang, and said, “I was wrong just now. Now be quiet and have a good sleep. You will forget about it tomorrow.”

Jiang Sui stared at him blankly, while her eyes couldn’t help but turn red. This was the first time in her life that she liked someone, the first time she took the initiative to kiss him, and she was even embarrassed because of the height difference and couldn’t kiss him. Now he asked her to forget about it.

He was right, she might really be drunk, or maybe just that little bit of alcohol had made her emotions particularly fragile.

But her courage had not yet dissipated. She thought that this was the only time in her life that she might have had the courage to take the initiative, so she had to know the outcome.

Jiang Sui said stubbornly: “But you just kissed me.” Because she was about to cry, her voice was so soft that she sounded choked.

It seemed that she didn’t understand how he could be so bad.

Hot and cold, close yet distant.

Outside the garden house, the night wind rustled through the bamboo trees. The temperature in the car almost made people forget that winter was coming, even though the winter in R City was always very cold.

Chi Yan stepped on the brakes.

He suppressed his emotions, closed his eyes, and said in a cold voice: “Sorry.”

Then he saw that the tears that the girl had tried hard to hold back rolled out of her eyes, and her eyes were red.

Chi Yan punched the steering wheel.

He held her face and said, “Don’t cry.”

It would have been fine if he didn’t comfort her, but once he did, Jiang Sui felt particularly ashamed. She was now clear-headed and realized that she shouldn’t have been entangled in these love affairs. To her, Chi Yan’s more important role was to help her save her father. Whether he liked her or not was not that important.

She held back her tears and spoke with a nasal tone, which made her look particularly delicate: “I know, I won’t cry. You are right, I drank at the dinner party, and I will forget it when I wake up tomorrow. Mr. Chi, don’t mind it, I was just joking with you.”

Those water-stained eyes were like the sky after rain, and her butterfly-like eyelashes were trembling, looking indescribably pitiful.

She continued in a low voice: “Neither will I…” I won’t like you anymore.

The rest of the words got stuck in her throat.

Because he leaned forward and held her shoulders. As they got closer, Jiang Sui could hear his broken breathing. This kiss was more forceful than before, and it seemed that no skills were needed. The intense emotion was more powerful than any words.

Jiang Sui admitted that she was frightened by such fervor.

He held her head until the girl’s face turned red and she looked very aggrieved, and then he let her go.

He rested his chin on her shoulder and panted in the crook of her neck. Jiang Sui was very depressed. His words and actions made her feel bullied. So, she said, “I will forget about this tomorrow.”

“Don’t forget this, never forget it for the rest of your life.” He said, “I love you very much.”

Chi Yan touched her soft hair.

He thought he would find a way to solve other problems later, but he had to accept it.

Jiang Sui’s eyes widened in disbelief. The man’s pupils were dark gray when he got closer. It turned out that they were not dark. Chi Yan looked at her stunned and frightened expression, and he unbuckled her seat belt: “Get out.”

Chi Yan knew that once some things were said, there was no turning back, and he couldn’t even continue to deceive himself.

He held her hand.

The man’s hands were dry and warm. He took out the key to open the door while holding her hand, took out slippers for her and then even helped her change her shoes.

After Chi Yan finished changing her shoes, seeing that she was still in shock, he pursed his lips and said, “If you regret it, you’d better tell me now.”

Under the light, Chi Yan told her calmly: “Sui Sui, my situation is not very good now. You also know what my situation was like before. I didn’t have enough food to eat and had to depend on others to make a living. Maybe it won’t be long before I become the same as before, or even worse than before. At that time, I will no longer be able to support you or protect you. Frankly speaking, I am not your best choice.”

It was the first time he had cut himself open for her to see.

“So, if you feel scared and regret your actions just now, tell me now. Our previous agreement is still valid. I will help you with your father’s treatment, and you can go back to school and live your own life in no time. Then you should stay away from me in this life, and I will not bother you again.”

However, it was better to say it now: it was a very cruel thing to give people hope and then make them despair again one night later.

Chi Yan knew that a girl’s love came and went quickly. Maybe it was fresh today, but she would regret it tomorrow.

And she would never even know what price he would have to pay for saying what he said today.

Chi Yan’s eyes were indifferent as he waited for her answer.

What answered him was a sweet and soft body that rushed in.

She hugged his neck tightly and almost hung on him. The girl whispered in his ear: “I know what I am doing. I am sure. I won’t regret it.”

There was a smile in her eyes and her tone was warm and happy.

The man was silent as he hugged her up.

“Good.”

A brief moment of happiness was better than dying without ever having gained anything in the end.

Whatever the cost, he would bear it.
