Simon looked at Anos blankly: “What is the Chosen One?”

“The Chosen One is the messenger of God who decides who is truly innocent and who can enter paradise without punishment when the Day of Judgment comes.”

Simon scratched his head and asked timidly, “What is Judgment Day?”

Anos was startled and looked at the nun.

The nun also looked confused, obviously not knowing what this meant.

Anos frowned slightly, but did not show it in front of them. Instead, he patiently explained according to the Bible:

“At the end of each era, the Day of Judgment will come. This day is the day when God judges the sins of the world. Those who do good deeds will be taken to the eternal paradise by angels and live a carefree life under the protection of God from then on; while those who do evil will be abandoned on earth and continue to suffer.”

“After Judgment Day comes the end of the era. The Demon Realm will break through the barrier and destroy most of the creatures on earth until everything returns to chaos. After that, the survivors will continue to give birth to offspring and start the next era.”

Simon showed a surprised and uneasy expression: “You mean… we are all descendants of the sinners of the last era?”

Anos nodded slowly: “This is why people have original sin. When the Day of Judgment comes, the innocent people will be taken by God to the eternal land full of milk and honey.”

Luo Mi had heard these things countless times when Anos was explaining the Bible. They were very standard religious views – of course, to the non-faithful Luo Mi, this was just fooling the common people.

What made him curious was that since this was an orphanage established by the Vatican, why didn’t the volunteers and nuns here even know the basic stories in the Bible? You know, even John in the border village knew the meaning of “promised land”!

Luo Mi believed that the Church would not adopt so many orphans simply out of mercy, but more likely because they saw cheap labor and easy to cultivate loyalty. Children who grew up in the Church’s orphanage would inevitably remain loyal and dependent on the Church.

But the prerequisite was that someone had to come to the orphanage to preach regularly.

Anos asked the same question to the nun.

The nun said uneasily, “I heard that a few years ago, a priest would come to the orphanage to preach regularly, but I have never seen him.”

Anos pondered for a moment and asked, “Do you know how many years ago it was?”

The nun thought for a moment and said, “I heard from the nun who was here before that it should be about ten years ago?”

Anos looked back at Reinhardt.

Reinhardt reported: “The Durr family took over the Vatican’s assets about ten years ago.”

Luo Mi touched his chin and said, “The Durr family is quietly eliminating the influence of the Church?”

Daisy Durr was still showing her loyalty to them! She was really a fence-sitter!

Anos didn’t think about it for too long, nor did he reveal anything in front of Simon. He just asked about Simon’s situation in a gentle voice.

Simon was a little nervous at first, but slowly calmed down with Anos’s comfort and introduced his birth.

He himself was an orphan in Shuijing Orphanage and grew up there. When he was fifteen years old and able to work, he went to work as a servant in the Holy Chamber of Commerce. In the past month, he was suddenly transferred back to the orphanage as a volunteer.

For Simon himself, it didn’t matter where he worked. Given his personality, returning to the orphanage would make him feel much more relaxed than working in the Chamber of Commerce, so he happily accepted the job.

After listening to this, Anos nodded gently and said, “As the chosen one of God, the Church will provide you with more choices. You can continue to stay in Losa City or go to the Holy City or other cities.”

Simon hesitated, thought for a moment, and then asked in a low voice: “Can I take the children here with me?”

Anos shook his head slowly: “Too many.”

“Then I want to continue here.” Simon looked at Anos anxiously, and mustered up the courage to say, “When I was a child, the volunteers and nuns in the orphanage took care of me. Now I am actually very happy to be able to work in the orphanage.”

Anos looked at this somewhat introverted young man and curled his lips: “Sure. The will of the Chosen One is God’s arrangement. You can go wherever you want.”

….

After leaving the Shujing Orphanage, Anos got on the carriage driven by Reinhardt: “Let’s go to the cathedral.”

Luo Mi was still analyzing rationally: “Mrs. Durr ran to see Count Sheen late at night and specifically informed him of this address and name. Did she know that Simon was the Chosen One? How did she know? Is the identification method very simple?”

Anos replied: “Only clergymen above the Archbishop can identify the Chosen One by listening to God’s revelation.”

Luo Mi said casually, “Tsk tsk. Even if they are all believers, their distance from God is different.”

Anos was stunned for a moment and pursed his lips.

Luo Mi didn’t pay attention and continued to analyze, “Mrs. Durr hurried to find Count Sheen, which means she just got the news not long ago. The fact that Simon was transferred to the orphanage is also evidence… What I’m curious about is that if Count Sheen knew that someone stole the note, so why didn’t he urgently find someone to take Simon away? Isn’t it to threaten the Vatican?”

Anos shook his head: “The Chosen Ones cannot threaten the Church. The Chosen Ones are essentially God’s benevolent choice of non-clergy, and they are of no benefit to the Church itself, otherwise the Chosen Ones would have been sent to the Church for protection and training.”

This was hard to understand. Luo Mi stroked his chin and asked, “Then why are they looking for the Chosen One?”

Anos looked out of the carriage and said, “That we’ll have to ask Archbishop Ellis.”

When they arrived at the door of the cathedral, Anos took Luo Mi out of the carriage. When they walked into the church, they were stopped by the knights of the church.

Anos looked at him calmly without saying anything.

However, the knight felt that the person in front of him was gradually emitting a strong oppressive force, which made his heartbeat faster and cold sweat slowly seep out of his forehead.

But he still insisted: “The Archbishop has ordered that the cathedral will undergo a routine inspection today. No one is allowed to enter. All prayers and masses will be held in the nearby chapel.”

Anos said slowly: “Will I see him there?”

Luo Mi stood aside, subconsciously took a step back, and suddenly had a different opinion of Anos.

Although Anos had always behaved gently and politely before, he was, after all, a core figure of the Vatican and an angel on earth. He probably had not met many people who dared to reject him in person several times in the past. He had an aura of majesty hidden in his bones.

At this time, a pleasant voice came from behind them: “Your Highness, even if you enter the cathedral now, you will not be able to see His Excellency the Archbishop.”

Anos and Luo Mi turned around and saw Daisy Durr, the beautiful Mrs. Durr.

Daisy covered her mouth with a handkerchief embroidered with red roses and smiled, “The Archbishop is not in the cathedral for a few days every month.”

Anos frowned: “Where is he?”

As Mrs. Durr approached, Luo Mi could clearly smell the elegant rose perfume on her body.

Daisy Durr glanced at Luo Mi with a smile and said in a softer voice: “The Archbishop is recovering from his injuries.”

Anos’ expression was slightly solemn: “Who hurt Archbishop Ellis?”

Being able to serve as an archbishop in the cathedral meant that Ellis Podoval’s divine power was of the caliber that he could escape unscathed even if he entered the Demon Realm as long as he didn’t encounter a demon lord. How could he be injured in a peaceful and stable empire? And seriously enough to require special treatment?

“It’s not in line with aristocratic etiquette to stand and chat with a lady at the door of the church, right?” Daisy didn’t answer immediately. She winked at them and said with a smile, “I wonder if I have the honor to be treated to a meal by two handsome men now?”
