After Zhao Liang posted on WeChat Moments, he turned the book over and over again on his way home in disbelief, confirming that it was indeed “Introduction to the Basic Principles of Marxism”. There was nothing inside, it was so ordinary that it couldn’t be more ordinary, and there were even test points marked with a highlighter on it, which looked exactly like the textbook Wei Xi had used before.

Zhao Liang looked at the huge words on the cover and fell into silence. After a long time, he thought uncertainly, was he really cheated?

Nearly four thousand dollars to buy this?

But as this guess came to his mind, it was not tenable. After all, the divination Wei Xi had just given him was incredibly accurate, so much so that even now when he thought of those words, his hair was standing on end and he could not calm down. What kind of business spy would go through so much trouble to ambush him and find out about his illness, his father’s death, and even his fall when he was five years old, just to defraud him of a few thousand dollars? This person must be a fool.

Zhao Liang thought about it for a long time but couldn’t figure it out. In desperation, he had to stuff the strange textbook into his bag without taking it seriously and go about his business.

As an entrepreneur, he usually had to deal with too much work, not to mention he had been sick for more than half a month and had a lot of old affairs piled up. Therefore, by the time he finished his last business event, the moon was already high in the sky outside.

His business partners escorted him out of the restaurant. Seeing that his driver was not there, they asked him a few questions in confusion. Zhao Liang smiled and stretched out his hand to hail a taxi: “It’s the National Day holiday after all, and Xiao Liu had to accompany his girlfriend. So, I asked him to go home early.”

He hadn’t traveled alone in many years. When he got off the taxi at the entrance of the community, he glanced at the gloomy sky above his head and thought it would be nice to walk back and enjoy the evening breeze.

You know what, today’s evening breeze was really cool and not at all like the hot autumn weather.

The sky above was so dark that no stars could be seen. It looked like it was going to rain soon. Zhao Liang pulled his suit jacket closer and walked towards his home with a familiar look. This villa area was located south of the Second Ring Road, where every inch of land was worth a lot of money. It was developed very meticulously and had a rare high green coverage rate. He had chosen to buy this place because of this.

The night wind rustled the trees around him. He looked up comfortably to admire the branches swaying under the street lights. As he walked, he suddenly felt something was wrong.

Wasn’t this road a bit too long?

His villa was not far from the gate of the community. Normally, it would only take him one or two minutes to drive back and forth from the garage at a speed of a dozen yards per minute. But now he had been walking for more than ten minutes and still hadn’t seen the familiar gate of his home.

Zhao Liang turned around and looked. The security booth he had just passed by was no longer in sight. He took out his cell phone and the time displayed was 11:35 p.m.

Everything was in complete silence, save for the rustling of leaves and even the chirping of insects, as if he was the only living thing left in the world.

A subtle sense of uneasiness rose in his heart, but he suppressed it and walked forward for a while. Finally, he was sure that this was not an illusion, and he wanted to call home immediately. However, no one answered the phone. He called several people and only waited for them to hang up automatically. Zhao Liang stared at the phone that was about to stop beeping again. He was about to scold these people for not answering the phone in the middle of the night. When he accidentally scanned the top corner of the phone, saw the time and was struck by lightning.

It was eleven thirty-five. He had been struggling for so long, but time had not jumped forward even a minute.

At that moment, an indescribable chill ran through his limbs and bones. He shuddered, and even the top of his head felt cold. He was stunned for two seconds, then turned around and ran back.

However, this road seemed to have no end. Not only could he not reach his home ahead, but even the security booth that he just passed by was nowhere to be found.

No matter how calm he usually was, Zhao Liang was inevitably frightened by this weird scene. He yelled for security at the top of his lungs, but the only response to his footsteps and shouts was the rustling night wind around him.

Zhao Liang’s mind went blank as he got no response. However, no matter how he ran, the surrounding environment remained unchanged. Seeing that there was no hope of running out and he could not contact the outside world, he ran until he was exhausted and shouted until his voice was hoarse. Finally, he could not bear the increasing fear and collapsed to his knees.

“Ahhhhhh!!! Is there anyone!!! Is there anyone!!!”

No answer.

What is this? Is this a ghost wall? Am I trapped here forever from now on?

Zhao Liang hugged his bag tightly, the hope in his eyes finally slowly extinguishing, and he became hopelessly quiet in the seemingly endless silence.

However, at this moment, he suddenly felt that his briefcase seemed to be unreasonably warm, especially compared with the cold wind blowing beside him, it was like a self-heating hot pack.

Zhao Liang was stunned for a moment, then subconsciously opened the bag and immediately saw the book that he had casually rolled up and stuffed inside. Because it was stuffed in too casually, the corners of the pages were now all bent up. Zhao Liang stretched out his finger to touch it, and his fingertips felt soft and warm.

In a flash, Wei Xi’s words flashed through his mind: “Carry this thing with you to avoid some trouble.”

Zhao Liang widened his eyes in shock—No, no way?

But his body had already taken action faster than the mind.

The moment he grabbed the book, an indescribable wonderful change came suddenly, as if something hit him head-on and pushed his head back.

His eyes went dark, and when he opened his eyes again, he was standing next to the security booth in his neighborhood.

The sultry early autumn air enveloped his body. The security guard standing beside him looked puzzled: “Mr. Zhao? Mr. Zhao? You’ve been standing here for a long time. Is there anything you want to talk to us about?”

Zhao Liang blinked, and for a very short moment, he even thought that everything that had just happened was just an illusion.

However, the scene he saw when he looked down made him shudder all over. His right hand was tightly grasping the book that was supposed to be in his bag.

The night wind blew in his face, damp and hot, and he shivered, and all the pores on his body stood up.

The security guard of Jiawan Garden was wondering what the owner who was standing next to the guardhouse was trying to do, when his arm was firmly grabbed the next second. The owner in the suit and leather shoes asked in a terrified tone: “Excuse me, can you please take me to my doorstep?”

This request was very strange, but who could blame them with the high property fees in this community? The staff was very service-minded, and the young security guard agreed immediately. He was thinking, how could such an elite and successful person be afraid of the dark?

As he was thinking this, he suddenly heard a noise behind him. He turned around and saw that the elite was walking with a book open.

Young security guard: “???” He’s still walking on the street reading a book so late at night. Are all rich people so hardworking?

Who knew that the oddities were far more than that? The next second, this successful man with a refined and shrewd face actually opened his mouth and began to read aloud –

“Practice is the foundation of the human world!”

“The world is unified in matter!”

“Matter determines consciousness!”

“Everything starts from reality!”

He read with cadence and relish, as if he was completely immersed in it and couldn’t extricate himself.

Young security guard: “………………”

This isn’t hard work, this is an illness, right?
