Jiang Sui finished washing her clothes and ate lunch with Jiang Shuisheng.

The summer in July was sultry and the sun was quite strong outside. Jiang Sui was a bit afraid of the heat, so she planned to return the kaleidoscope at night.

She waited for the sky to turn into a gorgeous rose-red color before she went out.

The door to Sun’s courtyard was closed, so she stepped forward and knocked.

Sun Xiaowei lay on the recliner, eyes closed and unmoved.

Just as Sun Chen was about to open the door, Duan Ling raised her chin and said to Chi Yan: “Are you dead, you still want my uncle to open the door?”

Chi Yan opened the door without saying a word. While Sun Chen frowned. After all, it wasn’t his child who could be scolded. So, he just said in a stern voice: “Xiao Ling.”

Duan Ling pursed her lips but said nothing more.

Her only relatives were her father and this uncle, and she was still willing to restrain her temper in front of them.

Chi Yan opened the door, and the girl outside looked up at him. The setting sun left a delicate and gentle silhouette on her body. She couldn’t help but say, “Chi Yan?”

Hearing her voice, Sun Xiaowei jumped up from the recliner and wanted to run over, but then turned it into a proud step as he walked out the door.

Duan Ling frowned. Her cousin had always had his eyes set high above his head, but now he was so excited that even a ghost could tell something was wrong.

Chi Yan looked down at her and said “hmm” in a low voice.

Sun Xiaowei pushed Chi Yan away: “Jiang Sui, why are you here?” Chi Yan glanced at him, then at Jiang Sui and pursed his lips.

Jiang Sui raised the kaleidoscope in her hand and handed it to him: “Came to give this back to you.”

Sun Xiaowei said: “I gave it to you.”

Jiang Sui had a headache and said, “This is very expensive. Keep it for yourself. Don’t give it away casually.”

Sun Xiaowei refused to accept it: “I will give away my own things if I like.”

Jiang Sui was about to say that if Sun Xiaowei didn’t take it, she would have to give it back to Uncle Sun, when a hand with sharp bones next to her took it. Jiang Sui turned her head and looked at Chi Yan, who had no expression on his face.

Sun Xiaowei was furious: “Chi Yan, what are you doing?”

Chi Yan said calmly: “She said she didn’t want it.”

Chi Yan didn’t look at them and had no expression on his face. He picked up the kaleidoscope and entered the room, handing it to Sun Chen. Seeing it, Sun Chen wondered: “Isn’t this Xiao Wei’s?”

Chi Yan glanced at the door and said softly: “He gave it away, and someone else returned it.”

A vein jumped on Sun Chen’s forehead. This was an antique given by his Grandpa to Sun Xiaowei. He was told to keep it well, but he gave it away in the blink of an eye. This prodigal son! However, he still liked Jiang Sui very much. He heard the girl’s soft voice, so he said: “Sui Sui? Come in and play.”

The girl outside the door raised her voice and said, “Thank you, Uncle Sun. Dad is waiting for me at home. I’m going home. I’ll come play another day.”

Duan Ling stared at the kaleidoscope: “Uncle, this is so beautiful, can I have a look?”

Sun Chen was not stingy with his niece: “Just play with it.”

Although Duan Ling had seen a lot of good things, she also knew that this one was very beautiful. It was different from ordinary kaleidoscopes. The view from it was really three-dimensional, as if you were really stepping into nature. It also exuded the fragrance of sandalwood, and the piping was real gold, and it felt very heavy in the hand. It must be very valuable.

Jiang Sui left, and Sun Xiaowei looked furious as soon as he came in: “Duan Ling! Give it back to me!”

He snatched the kaleidoscope back like a treasure.

Duan Ling was so angry: “I’m your sister, you gave it away but you can’t even show it to me!” She wanted to know who did Sun Xiaowei give it to even more now? This stingy guy was actually willing to do it!

Sun Xiaowei said: “I don’t have a sister like you who pushes your brother to feed the wasps.”

Duan Ling’s expression turned ugly: “I told you it was an accident.”

However, no one knew that it was not an accident. Duan Ling had not come to play for so many years. It was because Duan Ling was curious about the hornet’s nest on the tree in her hometown when she was a child. She poked it down and when the wasps reached, she didn’t know how scared she was. So, she pushed Sun Xiaowei, who was two years younger down and ran away.

But Duan Ling was so scared afterwards that she didn’t ask anyone to rescue him.

This incident pierced a thorn in Sun Xiaowei’s heart. Wasps were so poisonous. He almost died and never wanted to see her again.

Sun Chen patted Sun Xiaowei on the head: “Men don’t hold grudges, what does it look like with you being so stingy?”

Sun Xiaowei grinned perfunctorily.

Duan Ling finally felt guilty and stopped competing with him for the kaleidoscope.

….

Duan Ling came to the yard just to play with her peers. When she was playing, Chi Yan naturally wouldn’t participate, so he stayed at Sun’s house to help with things.

Sun Chen looked at him with admiration.

Within a few days, Duan Ling became familiar with Zhao Nan and Liang Qian’er, but Liang Qian’er noticed that Duan Ling sometimes looked at her with cold eyes, which made her shiver.

Liang Qian’er felt both proud and uncomfortable. What she was proud of was that Duan Ling, who was wearing a mask, just complemented her good looks.

The sad thing was that Duan Ling’s family was very rich, but she was inferior from her in every way and so she did not dare to boss her around like she did to Zhao Nan.

Duan Ling asked: “Who is Sui Sui?”

Several girls were stunned, and then Liang Qian’er’s eyes lit up: “Her name is Jiang Sui, do you know her too?”

Duan Ling said: “Why should I know her?”

Liang Qian’er had grown up a few years and was much smarter than Zhao Nan. She said: “That’s not what I meant. It’s mainly because she doesn’t usually play with us. I’m surprised that you suddenly called her name.”

Duan Ling motioned for her to continue, and Liang Qian’er smiled: “Maybe she doesn’t like us, after all, she is so beautiful…” Zhao Nan looked at Liang Qian’er doubtfully. Didn’t Liang Qian’er ask them to isolate Jiang Sui?

Now even Zhao Nan could feel Duan Ling’s suddenly cold face.

Duan Ling twitched her lips: “Let’s play with her.”

This was exactly what Liang Qian’er wanted, and a group of people walked towards Jiang Sui’s house.

Jiang Sui was doing her summer homework and frowned when she saw them from the window.

When Duan Ling saw her, her body trembled, and her eyes widened, as if she was looking at another Lin Wenwen.

“Jiang Sui, let’s go out and play together. You don’t go out every day.”

Jiang Sui shook her head: “I’m doing my summer homework.”

Liang Qian’er whispered to Duan Ling: “Look, I just said she looked down on us.” She felt it, that when she saw Jiang Sui, Duan Ling’s firepower had shifted away. This made her unwilling, but she was also happy to watch the fun. After all, who could afford to offend Duan Ling?

Jiang Sui blinked, feeling that Liang Qian’er must not have said anything nice.

Duan Ling said in a bad tone: “Then when will you be free?”

Although she was so aggressive, Jiang Sui’s tone was still polite: “I’m sorry, I have to clean up after doing my homework.”

Duan Ling crossed her arms, somewhat understanding why Sun Xiaowei liked her.

Duan Ling saw that she was still young and looked like a fairy, so she said, “Since you are not free, we can help you clean.”

Was it okay to let them clean it?

There were a lot of medicinal materials left to dry in the yard. So, Jiang Sui shook her head: “I’m not used to playing with you.”

Duan Ling was already a mature girl. She was one or two years older than these girls. Although she was angry in her heart, Jiang Sui’s tone was soft and polite, which prevented her from getting angry. She didn’t connect the girl who broke up the fight with Jiang Sui at all. After all, the gap between them was too big.

Liang Qian’er pulled Duan Ling: “Forget it, we can’t invite her.”

The girls had no choice but to leave, and Duan Ling remained sullen all the way. Liang Qian’er whispered: “She always has to come out. Her family is in the medicinal materials business. The forest behind the yard is empty, so Uncle Jiang uses it to grow medicinal materials. She sometimes goes to plant seedlings there before a heavy rain.”

Duan Ling gave Liang Qian’er a cold look: “What do you mean?”

Liang Qian’er’s heart skipped a beat, and she forced a smile: “It’s not interesting.”

However, more than a year ago, Lin Wenwen almost left a deep shadow on Duan Ling. When she saw Jiang Sui, she almost immediately thought of Lin Wenwen. They were all so beautiful and proud.

No, Jiang Sui was even worse. Why could they all live so comfortably!

Duan Ling said: “Let’s play a game.”

….

Rain was most intense in summer.

Before the heavy rain in the evening, Jiang Shuisheng still hadn’t come home.

Jiang Sui closed the window and walked into the forest before the wind and rain. This forest had abundant rain. If she scattered some scattered medicinal seedlings, she would receive a large amount of precious medicinal materials in the coming year.

Jiang Sui came up with this idea. She had to save more money on her own. If Jiang Shuisheng still had physical problems, their family could work hard to get through it on their own.

So she valued this medicinal forest more than anyone else.

Duan Ling and Liang Qian’er were ready to watch the show, but Liang Qian’er was also hurt, and she and Zhao Nan dug a big hole where Jiang Sui covered the seedlings. Others could avoid it, but not Jiang Sui. She was sick and her reaction speed was very slow.

They didn’t think much of Jiang Sui, and it was okay to let her suffer because of her “arrogance”. After falling into a pit and being exposed to the rain for a while, someone would naturally help her to get out.

There was a small stream on the mountain, and occasionally transparent fish fry swam around in it. Jiang Sui walked along the path up the mountain. She walked very slowly and now she usually didn’t fall down anymore.

Zhao Nan was a little scared. Although she was bad, she didn’t dare to do such harm to Jiang Sui.

“How about we go back…”

Liang Qian’er said: “Shut up. If you want to go back, go back. There is nothing in the pit and it won’t hurt her.”

Jiang Sui came over to cover the seedlings. She opened the film and put it on, but she avoided the covered holes by going back and forth.

Duan Ling frowned and walked over.

The sky began to thunder.

Jiang Sui turned around and saw Duan Ling standing behind her.
