“Valley Master, is this really the place?” asked a subordinate beside him.
You Jingyan gazed into the distance, his expression filled with confusion.
Another subordinate said with certainty, “Of course not. Where’s the promised Black Rock Mountain? Where are the dark clouds, the decaying birds, and the lightning and thunder? And the ever-burning dark fire? Not a trace of it.”
In the distance, the sun shone brightly, and a magnificent palace with red walls and yellow tiles stood tall. The glazed tiles shimmered in the sunlight, grand and imposing. To the north of the palace, a large area was planted with fresh fruits and vegetables, and chickens and ducks were kept in enclosures. Cattle and sheep strolled leisurely along the path.
What a tranquil and idyllic scene!
It was clearly a place where some nobleman had created to enjoy life, living in the finest palace and eating the freshest fruits, vegetables, and meat. Did this look like the residence of a great demon king? Certainly not.
You Jingyan snapped his folding fan shut and tapped it against his palm. “Anyway, it’s in this direction. Let’s search further afield.” He refused to believe that the massive Black Rock Mountain could simply vanish into thin air.
He had rushed back to Medicine Spirit Valley after finishing his work, only to learn that You Xu had left a letter and sneaked away. He was immediately anxious, barely managing to suppress his temper as he opened the letter. It read— “Brother, don’t worry. The world is so vast; I’ll go and see.”
“…”
You Jingyan almost laughed in anger. He then glanced at Cui Zhi, who immediately lowered her head and handed him another letter.
He gritted his teeth, suppressing his rage, and opened this letter as well—”If brother punishes Cui Zhi, I will weep far away.”
“…”
You Jingyan’s brow twitched, and he clenched the letter tightly.
The steward stood silently to the side, acting as a mere decoration: It seemed the Valley Master was going to tear the letter up.
Then he saw You Jingyan neatly fold the letter and place it under his pillow.
Steward: …I knew it.
You Jingyan thought that his sister’s two letters were rare and precious and should be treasured.
Then, he inventoried You Xu’s belongings and discovered she had taken two bottles of aging potion. Recalling how she used the potion, he drew several pictures of old women and posted them out: “Anyone who has seen this person and knows her whereabouts, please come to Medicine Spirit Valley and I will offer ten Heart-Protecting Pills as a reward.”
This news caused an uproar. Heart-Protecting Pills from Medicine King Valley could save a life and were incredibly valuable; offering ten as a reward was truly generous.
You Jingyan spent several months searching the Demon Slayer’s Mansion and every possible hiding place, but still couldn’t find her. He expanded his search, extending his influence to the surrounding demon clans, eventually destroying the lairs of several minor demons.
You Jingyan was furious about finding his sister; his gentle, polite smile was gone, and he searched wherever he was told, without hesitation.
Until a bald demon came and told him that You Xu was at Black Rock Mountain.
You Jingyan knew Black Rock Mountain all too well. Even if You Xu hadn’t been eaten by the demons, what kind of life could she have had in such a desolate place?
He could already picture You Xu coughing incessantly, his face haggard and emaciated. A pang of pain shot through his heart, and he immediately summoned his most powerful demon-slaying masters to rush there together.
However… You Jingyan pulled himself back to reality, looking at the distant palaces and fields, and ordered, “Let’s go look in the other direction first.”
Then, they completely missed their true target.
Not only them, but many others who had come to extract Shen Juexin were also bewildered: “Did we go to the wrong place?”
Several groups of people wandered around, unable to find the correct location.
Shen Jue’s subordinate sighed, “It seems His Majesty’s reputation is so great that those demons and demon hunters dare not come.”
Previously, people would frequently cause trouble, mostly desperate criminals who wanted to take a gamble and win Shen Jue’s heart to dominate both the demon and human races. In reality, they were only hastening their own demise.
Another subordinate, watching a group of people circling the palace again in the distance, said solemnly, “I really want to give them directions.”
Shen Jue, on the other hand, was annoyed by the people circling around. Black Rock Mountain used to be a treacherous place, not everyone could climb it, and he had some peace and quiet on the summit. What was the meaning of these people crowding around nearby?
Ignoring You Xu’s longing gaze again, Shen Jue stood up and said to her, “Enjoy your foot bath, I’ll be right back.”
“Oh,” You Xu nodded nonchalantly, only asking, “Will you let me pet your tail when you come back?”
Shen Jue didn’t even look at her, just turning and disappearing.
You Xu kicked the edge of the wooden tub, splashing small water droplets, and hummed softly. She then used a soft cloth to wipe her slightly reddened feet before putting on her shoes and socks.
You Jingyan, who had been searching for nearly five days, found it utterly unbelievable. When he reached the vicinity of the palace again, he said, “Let’s go in and take a look.”
Approaching within a few feet, he touched the array, and instantly many demons leaped over the wall and appeared.
He had found the right one. You Jingyan knew what was going on. He forcefully broke the array, leaving the demon-slaying masters who followed him to hold off the demons. Wielding the Wanqing Sword, he slashed through the demons and monsters, rushing towards the magnificent pavilion inside the palace.
The pavilion was surrounded by a clear, emerald-green pool. As he approached, countless water demons instantly emerged from the pool, baring their fangs and claws as they attacked.
You Jingyan took out his Flame-Burning Powder and sprinkled it. The powder, upon contact with the water, immediately ignited into reddish-purple flames, turning the emerald-green pool into a raging inferno.
Amidst the water demon’s agonizing howls, You Jingyan kicked open the main door of the Huage Pavilion and entered. He casually closed the door behind him, silencing the sounds outside. Presumably, some kind of magic had been used to prevent external noise from disturbing the interior.
“Who is it?”
You Jingyan’s heart leaped with joy upon hearing the voice. It was his A Xu. He hurried inside, passing through the pearl curtain, and saw the person sitting on the cloud-patterned couch.
Looking at the person before him, whose complexion was rosy and who had gained considerable weight, with fruits and dried meat spread across the couch, lazily cradling a hand warmer and dozing off, he couldn’t bring himself to say, “Sister, you’ve suffered. Your brother is late.” But to maintain the proper atmosphere, You Jingyan forced out the second half of his sentence: “A Xu, your brother is late.”
“Ah, quite early,” You Xu nodded.
You Jingyan: “Where’s the Heart-Eating Fox?”
You Xu casually replied, “Probably wandering off somewhere.”
“Come, come back to Medicine Spirit Valley with your brother.”
