After his conversation with Gu Wuji, Yang Shao’s thoughts became complicated.

He then sat back down. He was surrounded by darkness, clearly in a small room with plenty of food, enough to last him ten days.

It was said that the initial high-level players had all survived the ten-day trial on their own; only such players could truly grow stronger through the ordeal.

But now, many players had gathered information through other channels and prepared beforehand, determined not to let everything go to waste, especially with the presence of several high-level players hunting down the newcomers.

Even in this seemingly safe place, Yang Shao was so anxious he could barely sleep. Gu Wuji’s calm demeanor suddenly made him understand something.

Perhaps it was this attitude that allowed Gu Wuji to maintain his original personality… otherwise, how could he maintain this behavior— which was, to put it mildly, suicidal— in this instance, living in constant fear?

In truth, Gu Wuji simply knew far too little! Despite the constant threat to his life, he seemed preoccupied with more important matters, mostly ignoring the system and other players.

“Looks like I’m overthinking it,” Yang Shao shook his head, suddenly feeling a sense of relief.

Then, a vague feeling stirred within him, and he frowned sharply.

The dress Yang Shao had given Gu Wuji actually belonged to him; he could vaguely sense Gu Wuji’s state, and the aura emanating from that side felt familiar.

“Wait, if I’m not mistaken,” Yang Shao’s mind flashed with images of several high-level players he had inquired about, and his face darkened instantly. “The high-level player targeting him… could it be that guy? That’s bad!”

….

Meanwhile, in a building far from the village, the young man was casually scribbling something in a notebook.

“Not bad, there are too many ghosts in this village that we can use… Gu Wuji, let me see if you really have the strength to become a high-level player.”

“Let’s choose this one. She came to visit but died in a car accident. The driver, out of fear, buried her body in a remote place, and no one ever found it… She’s a ghost filled with resentment.”

Of course, if these ghosts directly confronted Gu Wuji, they would be easily torn apart by his bare hands. But the young man’s props could combine the ghosts’ past experiences to create a strange space, where people had to follow certain rules to leave…

….

Gu Wuji blinked and found that the scene around him had changed. A woman’s back was walking ahead, but he couldn’t catch up.

Upon closer inspection, they were both walking in the middle of the road, and the woman’s figure was limping, giving off an eerie feeling.

“What’s going on?” Gu Wuji wondered. He couldn’t help but greet her, “Wait, it’s dangerous for you to walk in the middle of the road!”

The woman immediately stopped.

The next moment, a light flashed from the side, and a car suddenly swerved, almost hitting the woman and Gu Wuji—

….

A moment later.

The car stopped in front of them. Gu Wuji braced himself against the front of the car with one hand, wiping the sweat from his forehead, and looked at the woman with a blurred face beside him with relief, “I told you not to walk in the middle of the road, look, we almost had an accident.”

The woman: “…”

The woman’s eyes were practically bulging out of their sockets as she stared at Gu Wuji.

She had been dead for so many years and had met so many people, but no one had ever been like Gu Wuji!! How could someone be able to brace themselves against a car with their bare hands!

Gu Wuji also felt it was very dangerous; he almost couldn’t stop the car. Sure enough, using only one-tenth of his usual strength was so unreliable.

“You look so worried, is something wrong?” Gu Wuji could tell at a glance that the other person was a ghost, but that didn’t stop him from helping.

“My body… I can’t find it.” The woman hadn’t intended to confide in just any passerby, but Gu Wuji’s actions had been so shocking that the female ghost blurted it out instinctively.

“That’s easy,” Gu Wuji said immediately. “I’ll search around here tomorrow, I’m sure I can find the body… and I’ll even call the police for you.”

Seeing the female ghost’s surprised expression, Gu Wuji hesitated before speaking, “Didn’t you say you were in a car accident and the driver buried your body? And you came to me to ask for my help?”

The female ghost nodded blankly.

Actually, she had originally intended to kill Gu Wuji and devour his soul to become stronger and seek revenge. But suddenly, she realized that stopping Gu Wuji here seemed pointless…

The scene around Gu Wuji blurred instantly, and before everything disappeared, he seemed to hear the female ghost’s voice beside his ear, “Be careful.”

….

The young man frowned. He couldn’t sense what was actually happening in the village, only that his setup seemed to have failed. But the ghost was fine, and Gu Wuji was fine too. What had they done?

“It doesn’t matter, I have plenty of other ghosts I can use.” The young man smiled and looked towards the village. “You can’t possibly escape from a ghost’s encirclement so easily every time.”

“This time, I’ll choose the ghosts of these children who died from domestic violence. They’ll definitely hate adult men who are similar to their abusive fathers. Can you get rid of multiple ghosts at once?”

….

“Big brother, play with me first!!”

“No, I met big brother first, so he should play with me!”

“You all stay away, big brother definitely likes me the most!”

Against the backdrop of the extremely eerie village buildings, the scene was very mysterious, with several child ghosts vying for Gu Wuji in the middle.

“Wait, don’t rush, everyone can play together.” Gu Wuji smiled helplessly.

Originally, these child ghosts were all very ferocious and covered in wounds, wishing they could bite Gu Wuji to death one by one.

But Gu Wuji not only easily subdued them, but also used healing magic on these ghosts, removing the wounds on the children’s bodies that had lingered since their deaths.

Under these circumstances, the ghosts’ affection for Gu Wuji skyrocketed. Gu Wuji, with his rich experience, also exchanged some toys suitable for children to play with…

In short, the scene became what it was now.

….

The young man frowned again.

He sensed that this time the ghosts and Gu Wuji were both unharmed; in fact, they seemed to be getting along quite well.

“What exactly did Gu Wuji do?” the young man wondered. “But these ghosts are still children; they might have been bewitched by some of his special toys.”

“The other ghosts won’t be so lucky…”

….

When Cheng Jia woke up the next day, he immediately felt aches and pains in his back. After all, it was really too unfair for a pampered young master like him to be sleeping on the floor.

But to his surprise, Gu Wuji was already up, looking energetic and refreshed, in a very good mood. He was even humming a song while eating the breakfast that Austin had brought him.

Austin, on the other hand, had a subtly complicated expression.

“Master Gu, what’s wrong? Did something good happen yesterday?” Cheng Jia couldn’t connect the current situation in the village with anything good.

“Mainly, I saw quite a few ghosts last night.” As soon as Gu Wuji spoke, Cheng Jia’s face turned pale.

“But the ghosts in this village are all quite nice. I helped them with some things, and everyone was very happy.” Gu Wuji continued, since he had done good deeds all night, he was naturally very happy.

Moreover, he hadn’t even realized that these ghosts initially came to kill him, but somehow things always ended up harmoniously. Their affection for Gu Wuji increased dramatically; they wouldn’t even stand idly by if other ghosts tried to harm him.

Gu Wuji also learned a lot about the village’s past from these ghosts, which he felt would be very helpful for his future.

However, each ghost had unfulfilled wishes, so Gu Wuji didn’t forcibly purify them. Instead, he planned to help them resolve their long-standing obsessions before purifying them.

After all, Gu Wuji hadn’t used purification magic for points in the first place, but to do good. He couldn’t possibly purify other ghosts casually just to become stronger; it simply didn’t align with his values. Of course, the young man behind him was incredibly frustrated last night. He even suspected something was wrong with his tools. If Gu Wuji and the others weren’t still trapped in the village, he probably would have already gone to the system to inquire.

Cheng Jia was stunned. He could already imagine the horrific scene Gu Wuji had encountered last night… No wonder he was Master Gu; he could still laugh and joke even under such circumstances.

But thinking about the number of ghosts that might have been in this room, Cheng Jia’s face turned pale, and he stuck several more talismans on himself just in case.

Today’s scenes were to be filmed in and around the village, and the director had already obtained the village’s permission. The group set off early.

However, the house’s staff all had somewhat subtle expressions after hearing their destination, looking like they wanted to say something but hesitated.

The group quickly arrived at their destination by car. It was a beautiful mountain forest on the edge of the village, and the village’s distinctive buildings could be faintly seen. In the past, many tourists would come here for outings.

But now, the fog was extremely thick, filling the air with a chilling feeling. It looked like it was going to be haunted, and no tourist would want to come out at this time.

The scene being filmed here today involved the male lead, played by Gu Wuji, and the second male lead, the Taoist priest played by Cheng Liangmiao, chasing some ghosts from the village to this place, seemingly discovering some hidden secret.

In the shadows, the ghost that possessed a crew member last night sneered, as if already envisioning Gu Wuji’s tragic death after stepping into their trap… After all, there are quite a few ghosts around; the female ghost who couldn’t find her body alone was enough to give Gu Wuji a hard time!

Gu Wuji, too, felt that the surroundings were too familiar… it seemed like a place he had seen in his dream last night.

“What a coincidence, isn’t this the place I promised that female ghost I would find her body?”
