You Xu truly realized that you can’t have your cake and eat it too. In this world, she had an absolute advantage in beauty, a perfect older brother, and a mission partner to pet, but her body was terrible.

A little wind would give her a headache, a sip of cold water felt like poisoning, and a cough felt like her lungs were going to burst. She was weak every day and could only stay in one place, sickly and motionless most of the time.

You Xu said sadly, “78, I don’t want to die before I finish my mission.”

78 replied, “Then you should take good care of yourself.”

But she had been taking medicine all day long, so this wasn’t taking care of herself; it was clearly just getting sick.

As the master of the valley, You Jingyan had many responsibilities, but he still spent a lot of time with You Xu every day. Cui Zhi was also always by You Xu’s side, keeping an eye on her. Shen Jue could only stay in the containment bracelet most of the time, and he could only come out at night when You Xu sent everyone away.

You Xu looked at Shen Jue, who was diagonally opposite her, half a room away, and felt incredibly envious. Shen Jue wouldn’t let her pet him and even kept his distance.

Twice, late at night, she secretly slipped out of bed and walked towards him. Just as she was about to reach out, he opened his fox-like eyes and looked at her coldly. You Xu sighed. Was her petting technique really that bad? No, she had complete confidence in her skills. It must have been that the two times she managed to pet him last time were too short; so the big fox hadn’t had time to experience the pleasure.

Heart-eating foxes were naturally inclined to eat human hearts, especially when they were recovering from injuries, as they needed heart flesh to enhance their demonic power. You Xu still cared for Shen Jue. If she couldn’t get human hearts, couldn’t she get him something else?

So You Xu secretly got him a bowl of…

Shen Jue glanced at it and said in an unfriendly tone, “What is this?”

You Xu placed the bowl in front of him, suddenly feeling like she was feeding a dog. “Spicy chicken hearts, they’re delicious.” Her mouth was still full of the bitter taste of medicine, but the long-lost spicy aroma made her saliva flow.

Shen Jue’s lips twitched: “I won’t eat it.”

“Okay then,” You Xu was easy to talk to, picking up the bowl of chicken hearts herself, “I’ll just eat one, just one.”

Just as the little heart, covered in chili seeds and chili oil, was about to reach her lips, there was a “bang,” and her room door was slammed open. Cui Zhi then rushed forward, snatched the thing from her hand, and cried out in anguish, “Miss!!!!!”

“How could you eat this kind of thing?” Cui Zhi picked up the big bowl and rushed out, “Valley Master, I need to report to the Valley Master!”

You Xu: “Wait…” She looked in the direction Cui Zhi disappeared and had no choice but to swallow her words.

She looked at the trembling door. Good, Cui Zhi, the bodyguard, now had both strength and speed.

Shen Jue was very alert; he had already hidden back in his bracelet before Cui Zhi could knock.

You Jingyan was even faster, arriving in no time. He hurriedly said, “Come, let your brother take your pulse.”

You Xu: “Brother, I haven’t…”

But without a word, You Jingyan examined her thoroughly. Seeing that there was nothing seriously wrong, he breathed a sigh of relief and spoke to her in a coaxing tone: “Why does A Xu want to eat spicy food? The spiciness clashes with the medicinal properties; you can’t eat it.”

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Thinking this, You Xu lowered her eyes, saying pitifully, “Okay, I understand.”

You Jingyan felt a pang of heartache. She really couldn’t eat it, but what could he do? His sister wanted to eat it! No problem, a solution can be found. “A Xu, be good, brother will make you a spicy medicinal soup.”

You Xu was surprised: “You can do that?”

You Jingyan smiled, his expression clearly saying, “Sister’s brother is omnipotent.”

But the thought of the bitter medicine made You Xu’s expression stiffen. “It’s better not to.”

The usually unnoticed steward weakly reminded her, “Valley Master, the Famous Artifacts Tournament is about to begin. If you don’t go now, it’ll be too late.”

You Jingyan’s heart was only with his sister. He rarely spent time with her, so why bother going to see famous artifacts? He waved his sleeve and said, “Send someone to report that I’m not going.”

The steward thought: I knew it.

“No, brother should go.” Her brother was watching over her in Medicine Spirit Valley every day. Then how could she send Shen Jue away? You Jingyan’s side job was being a demon slayer, and it was too dangerous for Shen Jue to stay in the demon slayer’s territory.

You Jingyan raised an eyebrow: “Why?”

“I’m tired of the flowers in the courtyard,” You Xu said with a smile. “Brother, if you see any flowers outside, pick the most beautiful one for me.”

Since his sister had said so, You Jingyan stood up, lifted his robe, patted her head, and said gently, “Alright, brother will pick the most beautiful flower for you.”

The steward thought: Oh no, it seems we can’t go to the Famous Artifacts Competition after all. The Valley Master will most likely be going to the garden.

After You Jingyan and the steward left, You Xu beckoned to Cui Zhi: “Cui Zhi, come here.”

Then she grasped Cui Zhi’s hand and put on a professional smile: “Cui Zhi, how have I treated you these past few years?”

Cui Zhi: “Miss has been incredibly kind to me.”

“Alright,” You Xu said, “Do me a small favor.”

….

As You Xu’s only personal maid, Cui Zhi held a high position in Medicine Spirit Valley and could freely move around the valley. However, her belongings would be checked when she entered or left.

The demon hunter guarding the gate asked, “Why are you carrying Miss’s bracelet?” Items belonging to You Xu would have her name engraved on them.

Cui Zhi, without changing her expression, said, “Miss told me to take the bracelet out and collect some folk trinkets to amuse myself.”

The demon slayer believed her without a doubt and quickly let Cui Zhi pass.

Cui Zhi carried the bracelet and hurried on her way. After some time, she left the territory of Medicine Spirit Valley. She opened the seal on the bracelet. “Miss, come out.”

You Xu emerged from the bracelet, took it, and thanked her, “Thank you for your trouble. Please wait here for a moment. I will go up and pray for my brother’s safety and well-being.”

You Jingyan had ordered that You Xu not be allowed to leave Medicine Spirit Valley, but Cui Zhi saw that her mistress wanted to give the Valley Master a surprise and was doing everything she could for him. Besides, the Valley Master wouldn’t be back for a while, so Cui Zhi’s heart softened and she agreed to bring You Xu to Ming Temple.

Ming Temple used to be very prosperous, but later it gradually declined, leaving only an old monk guarding the empty temple.

Watching her young mistress’s slender and delicate figure ascend the steps, as if a gust of wind could blow her down, Cui Zhi hesitated, then said, “Miss, let me use the bracelet to help you up the mountain.”

You Xu turned back and reassured her with her eyes, “Don’t worry, the mountain isn’t high. Walking yourself shows sincerity. Besides, I need to say something to the Bodhisattva. You can wait here peacefully.”

Cui Zhi couldn’t disobey her mistress’s wishes, so she could only instruct, “Then be careful, Miss. Call me if anything happens.”

You Xu hadn’t walked more than a few steps when her legs began to sway. She wondered if her body could still manage; she had already chosen the shortest mountain.

Finally out of Cui Zhi’s sight, You Xu released Shen Jue, “Let’s go.”

The large fox emerged from the containment bracelet.

“Let’s go.” Shen Jue walked into the woods without looking back. After a few steps, he couldn’t help but turn back and saw You Xu still squatting there, clutching the bracelet, blinking at him.

The wind rustled the leaves, and sunlight fell on her beautiful face.

She was wrapped in a cloak, half her face hidden in the white fur of the collar, revealing only a pair of large, bright eyes.

He stopped in his tracks.

“Big fox.”

You Xu’s eyes crinkled into a smile. “Are you reluctant to part with me? If you are, come and let me pet your fur.”

Shen Jue turned his head, gave a soft hum, and jumped into the woods.

The white figure completely disappeared from sight. You Xu sighed softly, propped herself up on her knees, and continued walking up the mountain.

The mountain wasn’t high, but the wind was rather strong today. So You Xu pulled her cloak tighter and arrived at the temple on the mountain.

The temple’s outer walls were somewhat mottled, with faded colors in some places, giving it a somewhat dilapidated look. The interior, however, was very clean. An old monk, without a trace of sorrow or joy, nodded to You Xu and continued sweeping.

You Xu lit incense, prayed for peace and blessings, and then descended the mountain. She was pleased to learn that her trust level had reached 15 and didn’t notice the fox who accompanied her to the top of the mountain and then walked down with her at a distance.

Seeing her meet her maid, Shen Jue tiptoed into the woods. The sound of the wind rustling through the leaves masked other noises, and the dark green foliage concealed a patch of snow-white skin.

The mistress and servant hurried back, and seeing that You Jingyan hadn’t returned yet, they both breathed a sigh of relief.
