As promised, Xiu Lingfei’s Longteng Group moved out of Jiang Shining’s city. This significant move naturally attracted media attention, but Longteng offered no explanation. A week later, a news report stated that the entire Longteng Group had undergone a relocation, moving to a commercial center in another city.

Longteng’s companies in the entertainment industry hadn’t been withdrawn; they just seemed to be finally willing to develop steadily and honestly.

As expected, the only person who could control Xiu Lingfei was his son.

Jiang Shining didn’t have time to care about him. She now had three children and was too busy spending time with them every day to pay attention to Xiu Lingfei’s activities.

The film she invested in and managed officially began filming and wrapped up three months later. After a round of new recruitment and staff changes, the film and television department was able to operate independently and no longer required her supervision.

Six months after taking over Ninglu Media, Jiang Shining was finally able to take a break.

So, when the weather was nice, she would occasionally take Guoguo out shopping and accompany her to parks and amusement parks.

Guoguo now especially loved playing in the ‘inflatable castle’ at the amusement park. A bunch of kids crawled and slid around inside, their laughter and screams seeming to pierce the ceiling. You could see children jumping and bouncing around in the inflatable playground, while a row of adults sat outside, looking utterly dejected.

Children had the energy to play all day, and parents dared not go anywhere else, so they could only sit outside. Some people were engrossed in their phones, while others’ eyes had begun to glaze over after a while. Still others were watching.

Jiang Shining found this kind of boring time quite interesting. She didn’t feel tired sitting anywhere and watching the passersby on the street was quite nice.

A woman sitting next to her was reading a pirated copy of a book. It was very thick, with densely packed text. There were several other books at the woman’s feet. Jiang Shining glanced at them casually and froze.

“Hello, may I borrow this book?” Jiang Shining pointed to a book at her older sister’s feet.

The older sister glanced at it and nodded.

“Take your time looking around. I see you’ve just arrived, so you’re going to spend most of the day here.”

Jiang Shining thanked her and then picked up the book.

The figures on the book cover were drawn in a very old-fashioned style, paired with large red characters—”Love Never Ends in the Turbulent Times of the Republic of China.” This book was at least half as thin as the one the older sister held. But in Jiang Shining’s hands, it felt as if it weighed a ton.

Who could know that these melodramatic stories were actually based on real people? She couldn’t help but wonder if the book in her older sister’s hand was also being read by a transmigrator in another dimension of the universe.

She took a deep breath and then opened the book.

Spring rain, drifting and swaying, sprinkled on the windowpane. Luan Heli pushed open the window, and the misty rain, carried by the spring breeze, blew into the room…

In the original novel, Luan Heli was the female protagonist. Beautiful and spirited, she was pursued by four of the most outstanding men from different industries at the time. One of these men was Chen Jiacheng, the warlord of Dongcheng.

Chen Jiacheng was a character who rose from a lowly soldier to the position of local warlord in a chaotic world, building his own power base and becoming a force to be reckoned with. The author also gave him a handsome and resolute face, befitting his status as a supporting male character pursuing the female lead.

Unfortunately, even in a female-centric story, he was just a cannon fodder.

Chen Jiacheng fell in love with Luan Heli at first sight at a banquet. He used a classic plot of forced love to take her away and finally forced the heroine to marry him. However, he already had a wife and three concubines at home. In order to please Luan Heli, he was even willing to divorce all his wives and keep only her.

The proud female protagonist naturally refused.

After a series of unrequited love stories and tales of a man willing to do anything for the female lead, Chen Jiacheng took her to a banquet where she met the two other male supporting characters: a wealthy businessman and a powerful young master from a prominent family. The three then become entangled in another series of events.

Finally, the real male protagonist appeared, led his troops to victory against Chen Jiacheng’s forces, and shot him dead. From then on, the two lived happily ever after.

Although these plots were very enjoyable for readers, especially the four men from different backgrounds vying for the female lead and being willing to give up everything for her— it was a good read— but once the world unfolds according to the plot, the whole world goes into chaos.

Therefore, the Transmigration Bureau sent Jiang Shining to this world.

Her role fell to the principal wife of Marshal Chen Jiacheng.

In the previous worlds she had traveled through, her several characters were exceptionally beautiful, serving to highlight the heroine’s beauty. However, in this world, which resembled the Republican era, Chen Jiacheng’s three wives included his first wife, who had followed him through thick and thin for over a decade. She had no powerful connections and was an ordinary woman, so it was impossible for her to be particularly beautiful.

The two concubines, one flirtatious and beautiful, the other with alluring eyes, were naturally more beautiful in comparison to the heroine who remained untainted by the mud, serving only to highlight how vulgar they themselves were.

This was the most ordinary of her lives. She was quite pretty and charming when she was young, but by the time the story of the female lead came, the first wife was already in her thirties, so she naturally couldn’t compare to the younger women.

This woman was portrayed as extremely timid and lacking in intelligence. Although she was the head of the household, she had no real power in the family and had already been bullied by the two concubines before the female protagonist arrived.

Most importantly, she was so bullied that she couldn’t even protect her own child. The second wife had no children, and because of the appearance of the female protagonist, after crying, making a scene, and threatening suicide, she actually got Chen Jiacheng to grant her a request: Chen Jiacheng actually asked the first wife to give away her child to the second wife. How absurd!

This book also had flaws in its setup. Although all the men in the book were head over heels in love with the female protagonist, and all the women wanted to kill her, the first wife was exceptionally stupid. She even had to personally serve the female protagonist the poison she was using to poison her… The author’s portrayal of her could be described as highly malicious.

Jiang Shining was then assigned to this role.

Now, as she flipped through this book, she couldn’t help but sigh.

An absurd world.
