Xiao Jing felt the pressure of his fingertips and couldn’t help but frown.

What to do? She noticed that when the captain touched her mouth, he seemed to have an ulterior motive. In his bright eyes, it seemed like he wanted to take another bite.

What should I do? If he bites my mouth with that fierce mouth again, should I show him with my actions that although I am weak, I am not a fool who can be bitten at will?

Shen Chengfeng snapped out of his daze, quickly withdrew his hand, and said hesitantly, “You eat it.”

Xiao Jing picked up the white steamed bun with satisfaction and took a bite out of it. The bun was a bit cold and hard, so she almost choked to death because she ate it too quickly.

Seeing her face flushed red, Shen Chengfeng poured her a glass of water and pushed it in front of her, his voice as usual, neither warm nor cold, “Is this steamed bun really delicious?”

“Captain, you don’t know, these steamed buns don’t look very appealing, but they are actually quite sweet. And most importantly, you won’t be hungry for half a day after eating one. You can imagine how generous the canteen staff are with the ingredients. If they were a little harder, they could probably be used as sandbags on the battlefield. One steamed bun for one enemy, awesome!”

“…”

“Captain, would you like to try some?” Xiao Jing offered it to him.

Shen Chengfeng subtly pushed the drawer open and took out two loaves of bread.

When Xiao Jing saw what he was holding, her eyes lit up instantly, and she subconsciously took small steps toward him.

Shen Chengfeng noticed her approach but didn’t pay attention to her particularly bright eyes, continuing to eat his bread.

“Cough cough.” Xiao Jing swallowed too quickly and choked again, unable to help but pat her chest.

Shen Chengfeng glanced at her and said, “Want to eat?”

Xiao Jing nodded and then shook her head. She felt that this must be another trap set by her captain. Judging from his cunning, he would not give her food so easily.

Shen Chengfeng tossed a piece of bread over and said directly, “Eat it.”

Xiao Jing remained motionless.

“Do you want me to tear it open for you?”

Xiao Jing hesitated before speaking, “Captain, didn’t you say we weren’t allowed to eat anything given to us by an outsider? I’ll just eat the steamed bun; it’s quite delicious.”

“Am I an outsider?” Shen Chengfeng asked again.

Xiao Jing smiled wryly, “You’re not an outsider.”

“Good to know, eat up.” Shen Chengfeng sipped his water, his gaze occasionally falling on the somewhat flattered soldier.

Xiao Jing finished a bag of bread in almost two bites, revealing her signature big white teeth with a satisfied smile that made her look completely harmless.

“Knock, knock, knock.” A soft knocking sound rang out.

“Come in.” Shen Chengfeng withdrew his gaze and stared intently at the doorway.

Qi Yue pushed open the door and entered, when he was suddenly greeted by a strange smell. He looked closely and realized that there was another person in the room.

Xiao Jing straightened up and bowed, “Instructor.”

“You can go out first,” Shen Chengfeng said.

“Yes, Captain.” Xiao Jing jogged out of the dormitory.

Qi Yue turned back to look at the departing figure, which was happily skipping away with its little hooves, then closed the dormitory door behind him and walked straight ahead.

“What is it?” Shen Chengfeng asked, looking at him.

Qi Yue handed over the battle plan he had worked on overnight, saying, “I studied the information on the Zheng Hu team all night. This is the plan I came up with. Please take a look.”

Shen Chengfeng read through the text word by word, and there was nothing particularly special about it; it was a conventional and conservative playing style.

Qi Yue hesitated, finding it difficult to speak.

Shen Chengfeng closed the plan and said, “Speak your mind.”

Qi Yue coughed lightly, covering his mouth, and asked, “Captain, have you been getting too close to Xiao Jing lately?”

“Is there a problem?” Shen Chengfeng asked in return.

After hesitating for a moment, Qi Yue asked, “Do you have some ulterior motive for getting so close to him?”

“Motive?”

Qi Yue nodded. “General Xiao Zheng has been visiting our Tie Ying frequently these days. He’s come here repeatedly, so I’m afraid his motives aren’t pure. I’m sure the captain has also seen through his intentions. So you deliberately approached Xiao Jing and then leaked some false information about our Tie Ying to him, which he then unintentionally mentioned to General Xiao Zheng, in order to lull our opponents into a false sense of security, right?”

Do I look like that kind of hypocritical, sanctimonious person?

“Isn’t this the reason you’ve been getting close to Xiao Jing lately?” Qi Yue’s lips twitched slightly.

Shen Chengfeng clasped his hands together on his chin, staring intently at the other person. He then said, “When did I deliberately get close to Xiao Jing? Don’t I treat you all equally?”

“…” Captain, when you say you treat everyone equally, doesn’t your conscience hurt?

“If you have nothing else to do, you can leave.” Shen Chengfeng turned on his computer and stared intently at the information on it.

Qi Yue left the dormitory, feeling that something was wrong. If the captain didn’t approach Xiao Jing because of Xiao Zheng, then what was his reason for getting close to him?

Xiao Jing hummed a tune as she walked onto the playground, intending to embrace youth with a run in the sunshine. But after taking only two steps, a figure suddenly blocked her way.

Jiang Xin’s gaze fell intently on Xiao Jing, his eyes revealing a deep and unspoken intention.

Xiao Jing involuntarily took a step back, subconsciously feeling that the person in front of her was dangerous.

Jiang Xin grinned and said, “Little Eighteen, we’re going swimming in the back mountain, let’s go together.”

After saying that, he put his arm around her neck and forcibly dragged her out of the camp.

Xiao Jing struggled, using all her strength to push away the person who had almost strangled her, and said in a hoarse voice, “You guys go, I won’t go.”

“No way! Everyone else is going, you can’t not go. If you don’t go, it will seem like our special forces team is not united. You have to go. Don’t worry, I’ve already prepared your swim trunks.” Jiang Xin proudly shook the bag in her hand.

Xiao Jing felt a pang in her heart and turned to run away.

Jiang Xin tackled Xiao Jing to the ground, forcibly hoisted her onto his back, and hummed a tune as he ran towards the natural lake behind the mountain.

Almost everyone had changed their clothes and were doing pre-swim stretching exercises.

Mu Xichi shouted, “According to the rules, the last-place person will be assigned to cleaning duties for a month.”

“So fierce?” Cheng Chen clicked his tongue. “Looks like I’ll have to unleash my full potential. Today I’ll show you just how amazing this swimming champion who almost made it into the national team really is.”

“Come on, with your doggy-paddle technique.” Jin Shan stood at the starting position, put on his goggles, and was ready to enter the water at any moment.

“Alright, everyone’s here.” Jiang Xin put Xiao Jing down from his shoulder and casually tossed his swim trunks onto him.

Xiao Jing was caught in a dilemma. Looking at the group of rough men in front of her who were eyeing her covetously, if she refused to change, would they gang up on her and politely help her change?

She swallowed nervously, trying to come up with an excuse to get away with it.

“What are you standing there for, Captain Xiao? Hurry up and change your clothes. They said the last person in line will be in charge of cleaning for a month,” Ji Shanlin reminded him at the right moment.

Xiao Jing smiled wryly and said, “My injury hasn’t healed yet, and the doctor advised me not to do any strenuous exercise, so you guys can just have fun.”

“Yes, Xiao Jing’s injury hasn’t healed yet, so she’s not suitable for swimming,” Lin Qi said, standing behind him.

Xiao Jing grasped at a straw and hurriedly hid behind him, nodding firmly, “You guys play, I’ll watch over your clothes.”

“This is so boring. It’s okay, how about we give you half the distance?” Mu Xichi was the first to jump into the water, followed by the others.

Xiao Jing took a step back and was about to turn and run when an extra hand grabbed her neck again.

Jiang Xin quickly grabbed him, smiling broadly, and asked, “Little Eighteen, are you planning to run away?”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Xiao Jing grabbed Jiang Xin’s extra hand and tripped him to the ground with an over-the-shoulder throw.

Jiang Xin reacted quickly, grabbed Xiao Jing’s legs with both hands, and used the leverage to throw him to the ground as well.

Xiao Jing felt a shadow fall over her head. She looked up in surprise and saw Cheng Chen standing in front of her. Clearly, she was being attacked from both sides.

Jiang Xin laughed and said, “It seems our Captain Xiao is a little shy. Brothers, how about we help him?”

Xiao Jing’s heart skipped a beat. Facing a critical moment of life and death, she could no longer care about camaraderie. She lifted her legs and clamped them around Jiang Xin’s neck, flipped him over, and threw him to the ground, disarming him and locking his throat.

Jiang Xin’s face turned pale. Before she could recover, she was elbowed on the head, causing her to become dizzy and almost fall to the ground and never wake up again.

Cheng Chen was startled by the sudden scene and didn’t know what to do. Before he could react, a hand came flying towards his handsome face without any mercy.

“Bang.” The fist made direct contact with Cheng Chen’s cheekbone. He fell to the side and reflexively made a retaliatory movement.

Xiao Jing noticed his fist and raised her hand to block it. The moment she made contact with his fist, her hands intertwined with Cheng Chen’s arm like water snakes entering a pool. Her fingertips dug into his flesh, drawing a line of blood.

“Xiao Jing, are you serious?” Jiang Xin shouted.

Xiao Jing successfully knocked down the two men and hurriedly stood up from the ground. However, she had only taken two steps when a group of people surrounded her.

Mu Xichi glanced at the two somewhat disheveled people on the ground and said with a wry smile, “Little Eighteen, why are you taking this so seriously?”

“I felt threatened by them,” Xiao Jing answered truthfully.

“We’re all out here to relax, why take it so seriously?” Mu Xichi stepped forward.

Xiao Jing took a step back. “What do you want to do?”

Mu Xichi rubbed his wrist, his purpose clear. He said, “Speaking of which, Little Eighteen always secretly takes a bath behind our backs. Is there some hidden reason? It seems that there really is. Since we are all comrades, let’s just say what’s on our minds.”

As Xiao Jing watched her comrades getting closer and closer, she felt an unprecedented sense of crisis. What should she do? What should she do?

“Enough, everyone stop making a scene. Captain Xiao does have a secret. He was burned in the explosion last time, leaving a large area of scars on his body,” Lin Qi explained, standing in front of him.

Mu Xichi spread his hands, pointed to all the men with bare chests, and laughed, “We’re all about the same , what’s there to be afraid of?”

Seeing that the group still refused to give up, Xiao Jing simply turned around and plunged into the water with lightning speed.

“Bang!” Ripples spread across the lake.

“Chase!” Mu Xichi gave the order, and everyone rushed forward like fish into water.

Looking at the group of people who were relentlessly pursuing her, Xiao Jing had a bitter smile on her face. She had a feeling that she was going to die here today.

Mu Xichi sensed something was wrong and quickly stopped swimming, shouting, “Damn, this is the first time I’ve swum this far! Little Eighteen, stop right now, there’s a waterfall ahead!”

Xiao Jing glanced at the figure that had stopped chasing her and slowed down as if she had survived a disaster. However, the water was flowing, and it seemed that she would be swept away even without swimming.

Lin Qi swam over in a panic, but Mu Xichi grabbed him and said, “Don’t go over there, the current is strong ahead.”

Xiao Jing looked back and heard the magnificent sound of flowing water.

Haha, God really knows how to play tricks.

She hurriedly swam upstream, but after flailing her arms and legs, she found that not only did she not swim back, but she was actually moving further and further away.

Lin Qi pushed Mu Xichi’s hand away and pounced on her without any hesitation.

Seeing that it was too late to stop him, Mu Xichi had no choice but to turn back and seek help.

“Captain Xiao, grab me quickly!” Lin Qi reached out his hand to Xiao Jing.

Xiao Jing saw him gripping a vine and instinctively tried to grab his hand, but it was obvious that the rushing water was becoming increasingly violent, and she failed to grab it several times.

Lin Qi simply gave up on the vine, rushed over and grabbed his arm, saying, “Hold me tight.”

Xiao Jing was stunned. “Why did you let go?”

“Hold me tight now and remember to hold me tight in a bit.” Lin Qi held Xiao Jing’s body tightly, letting the water carry them away.

Xiao Jing let go of her hand and shook her head. “You don’t need to worry about me. You’re a better swimmer than me, you’ll definitely swim back.”

“It’s precisely because I’m a good swimmer that I can’t let you go.” Lin Qi pulled him back once more, holding him protectively in his arms again. He smiled and said, “I said I would take responsibility for you. I will protect your life and death.”

Xiao Jing was stunned for a moment, then looked up at his face so close to hers. Water droplets fell from his eyebrows, carrying a faint glimmer of light.

“Boom!” The rushing water began to surge violently, and a 30-meter-high waterfall emitted a mournful sound.

Xiao Jing was swimming here for the first time. She thought it was stagnant water, but she never expected that she would become a corpse.

With a loud thud, the two were slammed into the water at the same time.

The underwater pressure forced out the oxygen from her lungs, and Xiao Jing’s eyes rolled back as she was knocked unconscious.

Lin Qi held him, surfaced from the water, and, panting, swam towards the shore with him in her arms.

The pebbles were a bit prickly underfoot. Lin Qi pulled Xiao Jing out of the water, gently patted his face, and called out, “Xiao Jing, Captain Xiao?”

There was still no movement. He listened to his heartbeat by pressing his face against his chest. After confirming that he was alright, he lay back on the other side and gave a silly laugh.

Xiao Jing groggily woke up, the sunlight blinding her eyes, and for a moment her mind went blank.

Lin Qi turned his head, his gaze intense, “Awake?”

Xiao Jing came to her senses, looked at the trickling water in the distance, and smiled, “I’m still alive?”

“With me here, of course you’ll live.” Lin Qi sat up and wiped the water droplets from his face. “Does anything hurt?”

Xiao Jing smiled wryly, “You should ask me if anywhere doesn’t hurt.” She moved her arm, her body feeling as if it had been smashed to pieces.

Lin Qi squatted down, picked him up, and carried him step by step, saying, “Have the doctor give you a thorough check-up when we get back.”

Xiao Jing leaned against his back, instinctively wanting to reject his touch, but he hugged her even tighter.

Lin Qi said, “Jiang Xin and the others went too far today.”

“When have they ever stopped going too far?” Xiao Jing joked. “Are you hurt anywhere?”

Lin Qi shook his head, “It’s good that you’re alright.”

Xiao Jing blushed. “Why are you so good to me?”

“We are comrades-in-arms.” Lin Qi paused and said earnestly.

“Yes, we are comrades-in-arms.” Xiao Jing smiled innocently, revealing her pearly white teeth.

Inside the camp, everyone stood side by side.

Qi Yue walked past them with a grave expression and said coldly, “Have you found Lin Qi and Xiao Jing yet?”

One person shook their head, “We’re looking for them.”

“They’re new recruits and might not know the dangers of the back mountain. Are you veterans just going to let them mess around like this?”

“Instructor, Xichi and Jiang Xin are going downstream to check things out,” Jin Shan said.

“Everyone go out and search. After you find it, everyone has to do five hundred push-ups. You’re not allowed to sleep until you finish them,” Qi Yue roared.

“Yes.”

A gentle breeze swept by, carrying withered leaves, while yellow sand swirled in the air.

Shen Chengfeng looked at the group of people who had scattered in all directions and asked, puzzled, “What happened?”

Qi Yue blurted out, “Xiao Jing and Lin Qi were swept down the waterfall behind the mountain, and everyone is looking for them now.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Qi Yue felt as if a gust of wind had suddenly risen in front of him. He was surprised and looked around. The captain, who should have been standing next to him, was nowhere to be seen.

“Team… Captain?” Qi Yue called out, somewhat confused.

The surroundings were completely silent. Had I just been hallucinating?

Shen Chengfeng stepped on the gas, and the car sped away.

The cobblestone road was somewhat rugged, and the car was forced to stop after only a few meters.

“Captain?” Xiao Jing saw a familiar figure from afar. The man was still wearing that airtight rice dumpling clothes, wrapped up tightly inside and out. Especially his stern face, even if he were reduced to ashes, she could probably piece together the captain’s appearance from the pile of ashes at a glance.
