“You want to attract zombies?” The man looked at Fu Ke strangely. “You saw it yourself, they have a lot of heavy weapons, I don’t know where they got them from. You’ll probably be wiped out before you even get close.”

Just like the zombies that had followed them earlier.

Fu Ke chuckled. “I don’t need to get close.” She winked at the man, her dimples appearing and disappearing.

The man stared blankly at Fu Ke. She was wearing a white long dress, her skin fair and clean. She looked like someone who had stepped out of a painting.

Suddenly, something occurred to him, and the man looked at Fu Ke in shock. “You’re an ability user?”

An ability user? Fu Ke scoffed inwardly. An ability user couldn’t attract zombies as easily as she could. But she didn’t deny it. “Sort of.”

“Hello, my name is Lan Sheng.” The man looked at Fu Ke with shining eyes.

“My name is Fu Ke.” Fu Ke looked at him. “Are those your people?” She gestured with her chin, pointing to a group of people hiding not far from them.

Lan Sheng nodded.

“You’re all ordinary people, and this place is so dangerous. Aren’t you afraid of getting yourself killed instead of rescuing anyone?” Besides, there weren’t many of them; just ten people in total, including Lan Sheng.

Lan Sheng looked at Fu Ke and sighed, “My brother has been captured.” He pursed his lips, his face filled with worry.

“Do you have a photo?” Fu Ke looked at the people imprisoned inside, but she didn’t know who Lan Sheng’s brother was.

“Yes!” Lan Sheng took out a photo; it was a picture of the two brothers together.

This was a photo taken before the apocalypse, probably not too long ago. Lan Sheng had a bronze complexion and a burly build, while his brother looked like a frail scholar, with fair skin and a tall stature.

Fu Ke immediately spotted the person— no, it was more like a zombie.

It was handcuffed and shackled to the bed, unable to move, its bloodshot eyes filled with ferocity, constantly struggling and howling.

At this moment, a researcher dressed in white approached. The syringe in his hand contained jet-black blood, clearly zombie blood.

The researcher injected the black blood into Lan Sheng’s brother’s veins.

“Roar—” Lan Sheng’s younger brother’s veins bulged, his face contorted in pain. His bloodshot pupils seemed about to overflow with blood.

To Fu Ke’s astonishment, Lan Sheng’s younger brother, though still a third-tier zombie, possessed not only ferocity but also anger and hatred in his eyes.

He hadn’t lost his memories of his human self; he remembered everything? This utterly shocked Fu Ke.

“What’s wrong?” Lan Sheng noticed the subtle change in Fu Ke’s expression and couldn’t help but ask.

Fu Ke, while observing the developments in the laboratory, silently glanced at Lan Sheng: “Your brother has become a zombie.”

Hearing Fu Ke’s words, Lan Sheng’s eyes widened in shock: “Impossible! Lan Zhi is an ability user! He’s an ability user, how could he become a zombie!”

An ability user?

Upon closer inspection, Lan Sheng’s younger brother did indeed possess an energy. A very dense black energy, a dark-type ability.

Dark-type abilities had never appeared in her previous life, and Fu Ke didn’t know what they were like, but those dark particles immediately reminded her of dark-type abilities.

Lan Sheng was so agitated that he almost fell from the tree, but Fu Ke caught him in time.

“Your brother has really become a zombie. Do you still want to save him?” Fu Ke felt a pang of pity seeing Lan Sheng’s heartbroken state.

Lan Sheng glared angrily at the abandoned factory: “Save him!”

He had to see Lan Zhi, even if Lan Zhi had truly become a zombie, he would kill Lan Zhi and give him a proper burial!

His intuition told him that Lan Zhi’s transformation into a zombie was definitely related to some kind of strange research being conducted here!

Fu Ke’s eyes softened slightly as she thought of Brother Long and Skinny from her past life. Her expression softened as she looked at Lan Sheng: “Okay, I’ll help you.”

….

Qiu Yi sat at the entrance of the D City base, clutching a Rubik’s Cube: “You promised me…”

But you lied to me. You said you’d come back, but you didn’t… Tears welled up in his large eyes; he sat there like a small, pitiful bundle.

“Qiu Yi.” Lin Yiyi walked over and sat beside Qiu Yi, unsure how to comfort him.

“Teacher Lin,” Qiu Yi looked up at Lin Yiyi, “Do you think Mom will come back? It’s been so long, and she still hasn’t returned. Does she not want me anymore?”

“No,” Lin Yiyi quickly shook her head, “How could that be? Your mother loves you so much, she wouldn’t abandon you. There must be something that is preventing her from coming back. Qiu Yi, you must be good, train hard, and when you grow up, if Mom still hasn’t returned, you can go find her.”

She smiled, but in her heart she knew… Not returning for so long, the outcome was likely grim.

Lin Yiyi couldn’t help but worry about Fu Ke again. Fu Ke had also been gone for some time. Why hadn’t she returned? No, no, no, Fu Ke was different. She was so powerful, she would definitely be alright.

Skinny was a fourth-tier ability user, and a dual-elemental ability user at that— third-tier spatial and fourth-tier wood. His attack power was extremely strong, so after consulting with Skinny, Zhang Zhongmin divided the ability users in the base into several small teams, led and trained by Skinny.

Under the training of Skinny, the ability users in the base were growing rapidly, but Skinny suddenly said he had to leave.

Zhang Zhongmin looked at Skinny: “Why are you leaving all of a sudden? Is there something important?”

Skinny nodded, a hint of sadness on his face: “Indeed, I need to find someone very important. She is very important to me, I must find her.”

Zhang Zhongmin was somewhat sceptical: “If she’s so important, why didn’t you look for her before?”

Skinny choked. He had been pinning his hopes on Brother Long. But lately, Brother Long hadn’t gone out except for missions.

Even Fu Ke hadn’t returned yet, and Brother Long refused to go looking for her. He kept saying that Fu Ke would come back.

Skinny felt a tightness in his chest. Brother Long and Xiao Bai were both very important to him. But now Brother Long had been found, however Xiao Bai was still nowhere to be found.

“I originally wanted Brother Long to come with me. But now it seems I’ll have to go alone.” Although Skinny had been training the ability users lately, he had also been training according to Zhang Zhongmin’s methods.

So although he was still thin, his physique had become much stronger.

Skinny insisted, and Zhang Zhongmin couldn’t persuade him otherwise: “If you find the person, you’re welcome to come to the D City base anytime.”

“Thanks,” Skinny grinned.

After walking out, Skinny saw Qin Long, paused, and then smiled, “Brother Long, I might be out for a while. If I find Xiao Bai, I’ll definitely bring her over.”

But by then, the base probably wouldn’t welcome them anymore. Skinny chuckled self-deprecatingly.

Qin Long said, “Be careful on the road.”

“Don’t worry, I’m practically a post-apocalyptic powerhouse now. Nobody can do anything to me.” Skinny looked at Qin Long with a complicated expression. “Brother Long, do you really not remember Xiao Bai?”

He still hadn’t given up hope that Brother Long might have been reborn like him, even though he knew the chances were incredibly slim.

Hearing Skinny’s words, Qin Long really wondered if he had some kind of strange amnesia. First, he forgot Fu Ke, and now it was this Xiao Bai in Skinny’s mouth?

“I don’t know,” Qin Long couldn’t help but doubt himself.

“Alright then…” Skinny said, “Would you like to come with me to find Xiao Bai?”

Qin Long didn’t know Xiao Bai, even though the name kept appearing on Skinny’s lips. According to Skinny, Xiao Bai was very close to them.

But he truly hadn’t known someone named Xiao Bai in his life.

More than Xiao Bai, Qin Long wanted to wait for Fu Ke here. He already regretted it; if it weren’t for Du Weiwei, he would still know where Fu Ke had gone.

No matter how dangerous it was, he could go with Fu Ke. At least that would be better than being completely out of touch like now.

“I’m leaving.” Skinny waved his hand disappointedly, shouldered his large knife, and swaggered out.

Qin Long sighed, slowly closed his eyes, and recalled Lin Jing’s words.

“Fu Ke said she was worried about you and cared about you, but she had no right to control your life. If it was your choice, she could only support you. At the time, we all thought you left with Du Weiwei and wouldn’t come back…”

“Brother Long, in Fu Ke’s heart, Du Weiwei wasn’t good enough for you, and in our hearts too. Even if she hadn’t been disfigured, in our hearts you were infinitely better than her.”

“But you left with Du Weiwei without telling any of us, not even a word. You not only hurt Fu Ke, but you also hurt us, hurt those who cared about you.”

Qin Long clenched his fists, a faint electric current flowing through them, but he didn’t even notice it himself.

When Skinny reached the entrance of the D City base, he saw the child sitting there, along with Lin Yiyi.

Skinny had also heard about Qiu Yi’s situation. He immediately walked over: “Little one, do you want to come with me to find someone?”

“Hey! What did you say!” Lin Yiyi stared wide-eyed in shock, holding Qiu Yi and looking at Skinny warily. Qiu Yi was so young, what if something happened to him?

Qiu Yi looked at Skinny; everyone said he was the most powerful person in the base.

“Are you going to take me out to find my mother?” Qiu Yi asked seriously.

“I’m going out to find someone too. I think we can go together.” Skinny said with a grin, completely ignoring Lin Yiyi.

“I’ll go with you!” Qiu Yi broke free from Lin Yiyi’s embrace and ran over to grab Skinny’s hand.

“Qiu Yi! It’s dangerous outside. Even if you want to find your mother, you have to wait until you’re strong enough to protect yourself before you go out.” Lin Yiyi panicked and quickly blocked the doorway to prevent Skinny from taking Qiu Yi away.

Skinny looked at the child holding his hand; he was just joking…

Because he hadn’t interacted with the child before, Skinny assumed the child was shy. He shouldn’t trust strangers, but seeing the trusting look in the child’s eyes…

“…” He suddenly felt like he’d shot himself in the foot.

“That older sister is right, little one. It’s dangerous for you to go out now. You can only find your mother when you’re as strong as me,” Skinny said helplessly.

“I have superpowers too! I can protect myself, I won’t hold you back!” Qiu Yi said earnestly.

Oh ho, this child actually knows how not to hold someone back. Then he asked curiously, “You have superpowers?”

Not to mention Skinny, Lin Yiyi also looked at Qiu Yi in shock. She didn’t even know when Qiu Yi had superpowers: “Qiu Yi, don’t talk nonsense.”

“I’m not talking nonsense, my mother told me not to tell anyone before.” Qiu Yi looked at Skinny seriously: “I have superpowers, can I go out with you?”

Skinny thought for a moment : “Tell me what your superpowers are first?”
