Meanwhile, Zhuang Li was sitting on the bed, holding a bowl of medicine, listening to a fourteen or fifteen-year-old girl gently comforting him.

“Big brother, it’s just that you failed the imperial examination. Why are you so upset? You get a headache as soon as you pick up a book and can’t concentrate on reading a single word. This is making you sick. If you don’t want to ruin your health, you should stop reading and rest.”

The girl gently touched the bowl of medicine and urged, “Big brother, drink your medicine quickly, don’t think about anything else.”

Zhuang Li didn’t drink the medicine; he simply observed the girl silently, as well as everything around him.

This was a very narrow old brick house. Apart from a kang (a heated brick bed), a table, and two chairs, there was no other furniture or decorations inside. The wood on the beams emitted a smell of tung oil and mold, indicating that it had been around for many years. The windows, covered with yellowed paper, had several holes, through which warm sunlight shone in.

However, such a cramped room was not something Zhuang Li could afford alone. A boy of about thirteen or fourteen was leaning against the window, away from the earthen bed, holding a brush and writing something while muttering to himself.

There were two pillows on the kang (a heated brick bed), one of which should belong to the boy, who shared a room with Zhuang Li.

Ancient buildings, antique furniture, old-fashioned people, and old-fashioned clothing. Everything before him indicated that Zhuang Li had arrived in an ancient world.

Having quickly gained a better understanding of his situation, Zhuang Li lowered his head and gently sniffed the aroma of the herbal medicine.

When he was studying medical technology in his previous life, he also gained some knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine. He quickly identified it as a health-preserving formula that could regulate sub-health conditions and would only have benefits and no harm from drinking it.

So he took a small sip, then put down the soup bowl, frowned, leaned back against the pillow, and continued to survey his surroundings.

By ancient standards, a family that could afford to live in a brick house and send their children to school was definitely considered wealthy.

The girl in front of him called him “big brother,” but the smile on her face didn’t reach her eyes; it was clearly a pretense. So it was hard to say whether these two siblings were actually born of the same mother.

The boy sitting by the window looked back at the girl with wary eyes, suggesting they had a strained relationship, or even some long-standing conflict. But when he looked at himself, his gaze was full of worry, affection, and intimacy, so he must be this body’s younger brother.

Zhuang Li quickly divided the two into two camps: one close and one distant.

The girl was incredibly sweet and lovely, her eyes crinkling into crescent moons when she smiled, radiating an indescribable innocence. Yet, Zhuang Li couldn’t find a trace of genuine emotion in her pupils. A cold heart nestled within her warm exterior.

Zhuang Li never bothered with people like this, so he immediately said, “I’m tired, you can leave.”

The girl looked at the bowl of medicine, seemingly worried, but also afraid that her older brother would bother her, so she eventually went out.

As she walked to the window, she stared at the boy’s homework for a while and whispered, “Little brother, haven’t you gotten rid of the habit of your wrist shaking when you hold a pen? Your calligraphy is already messed up. When you go to the exam, the examiner might not even be able to understand your paper. This won’t do. You should go see a doctor as soon as possible.”

The girl wanted to say something, but seeing the boy’s pale face, trembling fingertips, and eyes full of resistance, she shook her head, sighed, and left.

Zhuang Li raised his eyebrows, feeling that every move the girl made concealed some intriguing details.

7480 flipped through the script with a swish, and also sighed: “Master, I told you a long time ago to be careful when handling those cheat abilities, but you didn’t listen. Now look what’s happened, we’ve been transported to a world with a slightly supernatural element!”

“The chosen one of this world is that girl from earlier. She’s your cousin, and a well-known lucky charm. She’ll find rabbits or ginseng on the street, and she can easily find a pile of gold and silver treasures just by turning over a grassy burrow. Whoever treats her well will have great luck; and whoever treats her badly will have great misfortune.”

“Your whole family treated her badly, so you’re the first cannon fodder to suffer. Master, if you hadn’t burned away the Eye of Cause and Effect, we could change the causal relationship and thus avoid that fate. But right now, you’re just an ordinary person, what can you do to fight against God’s favorite daughter?”

“Let me tell you, your cousin’s luck is absolutely incredible! You have to believe me! Whatever she says comes true, her words are more effective than a wishing well.” 7480 muttered under his breath, “Serves you right for not listening to me, now let’s see what you do.”

“A lucky star? Incredibly lucky? That’s an interesting premise.” Zhuang Li wasn’t flustered at all; instead, he smiled with great interest.

He liked everything new and unknown.
