Reaching the ritual location was incredibly simple; all it took was walking to the valley where the village chief lived.

The route was merely a secluded mountain path, but given the village’s current state, anyone could tell things wouldn’t go smoothly.

Furthermore, to prevent Gu Wuji and his group from escaping, the villagers, their expressions numb and seemingly controlled, surrounded them.

In reality, the village chief’s actions were unnecessary. The area around the route was shrouded in mist, and the players wisely avoided entering it.

As they walked, they could faintly hear the whispers of ghosts, as if waiting to drag them into hell.

The village chief walked at the front, his face already grim. When he turned and saw Gu Wuji in the crowd, his eyes flashed with a deep-seated hatred and a triumphant satisfaction at the prospect of revenge, making his entire expression twisted.

“Given the current situation, I don’t believe you can reach the ritual site alive.”

“That is—” The player at the front paused, looking in horror at the road not far away. Everyone immediately saw a black coffin placed by the roadside, radiating a chilling aura.

“It’s one of the seven sacrificial ghosts!” This player was trembling. After all, he hadn’t been traveling with Gu Wuji and the others; he had only experienced the terrifying scene of being chased by ghosts with another player. Even now that he had regained his memories, the fear buried deep in his consciousness hadn’t dissipated immediately, and his body was temporarily unable to move.

“It seems that all seven ghosts are lying in ambush on this mountain path!” The other player also looked grim, suddenly taking out his item and even using it immediately. He dared not harbor any illusions about the ghosts.

The black coffin was slowly pushed open, and a hand that was clearly young reached out from it, still stained with shocking blood.

“It’s that ghost!” The player gasped. “Although it was just a child, after being cruelly sacrificed, it has become a terrifying vengeful spirit, seeking revenge on its enemy’s entire family…”

To it, these players were nothing more than prey to be killed in a matter of minutes! And this time, there was no longer the protection it had when it had amnesia.

After the coffin was completely pushed open, the ghost that should have appeared remained motionless. Instead, the shrill cries of a child and the rapid breathing of people fleeing for their lives could be heard from all around. At first glance, several dark figures had appeared in the surrounding mist, slowly walking towards the players.

Seeing that the situation seemed extremely dire, even the villagers, though controlled, were trembling with subconscious fear. The two players suddenly realized something was wrong.

Why did Gu Wuji, Yang Shao, Xiao Qin, and the others seem so calm, even their eyes seeming to carry a subtle feeling?

A tall ghostly figure grinned as it walked towards them, completely ignoring the village chief and the others in front of it, and directly reached out to grab the two players.

“What a coincidence, I didn’t expect to meet you here again.” The moment Gu Wuji’s voice rang out, the ghost’s figure froze.

The two players even saw a kind of fear in the ghost’s eyes. “…”

If they had witnessed how Gu Wuji had beaten this ghost on the spot, like Yang Shao and Xiao Qin, they probably wouldn’t be so shocked now.

“Why did you leave without saying goodbye last time? I was really worried about what happened.” Gu Wuji sighed, as if he were meeting an old acquaintance. “So you’ve been waiting here all this time?”

The ghost, still with its muscular physique, clearly didn’t want to have any involvement with Gu Wuji. It hesitated for a moment, thinking that with its greatly increased strength, did it still need to be afraid of this human? It immediately sneered and grabbed at Gu Wuji.

However, in the next instant, Gu Wuji had already taken out the kitchen knife. A flash of cold light appeared, and the chilling aura emanating from it made the surrounding players take several steps back.

Especially since Gu Wuji, who seemed like a gentle and reliable handsome man, suddenly exuded a terrifying aura after picking up a kitchen knife!

The vengeful ghost instantly felt the other ghosts within its body trembling because of Gu Wuji, its movements momentarily halting. Perhaps it should leave this place…

Gu Wuji had just been saying that the kitchen knife should be returned to the ghost, when he saw the ghost’s outstretched hand. The scene felt strangely familiar; were all ghosts this enthusiastic?

“Would you like a handshake?” Gu Wuji said, directly grabbing the ghost’s hand and shaking it.

The vengeful ghost felt the astonishing strength from the hand it held, and the kitchen knife in the other’s other hand, suddenly recalling the fear of being pinned to the ground and beaten by this human…

As a vengeful ghost, it was actually quite limited due to the sacrifice; its greatest ability was controlling other ghosts for its own use. But the other ghosts within its body were still in a state of fear towards Gu Wuji!

“I think I suddenly have something to do,” the vengeful ghost said immediately, and the next moment, its form suddenly dissipated, seemingly fleeing for its life.

Gu Wuji asked in surprise, “Wait, I haven’t purified you yet—”

Hearing Gu Wuji’s words, the ghost darted even faster, instantly vanishing into thin air. Even the crowd felt that the surrounding mist seemed to have thinned slightly.

The others: “??” What kind of development is this?!

Even the village chief was silent. He only knew that Gu Wuji and the others had encountered quite a few sacrificial ghosts in the village these past few days, but since they hadn’t come into contact with them all, Gu Wuji definitely didn’t know the whole truth. Now, he was just here to offer himself up.

But why did this ghost run away so cowardly upon seeing Gu Wuji?! Anyone who didn’t know better would think that Gu Wuji was the ghost!

The group quickly continued forward, but the atmosphere was completely different from before. If before it was an atmosphere of going to their deaths, now it carried a sense of mystery. At least without the vengeful ghost, they felt that their chances of survival had greatly increased.

Soon, another coffin appeared ahead.

The players, who had been pondering who Gu Wuji really was, gasped again. “Another vengeful ghost!”

After all, Gu Wuji might be able to handle one vengeful ghost, but not necessarily a second.

They couldn’t possibly consider Gu Wuji some kind of savior just because of what had happened before; so their expressions grew serious.

This time, they could vaguely see the surrounding mist dissipating, revealing countless graves and corpses crawling out of them, resembling walking corpses.

Everyone else gasped. So many corpses— Gu Wuji really couldn’t handle them! Otherwise, this wouldn’t be a supernatural game, but a hack-and-slash game!

The next moment, a dark shadow, its exact appearance unclear, appeared not far away. But judging from its aura, it was clearly the vengeful ghost represented by the coffin.

While the two players were on guard, this shadow actually… waved at Gu Wuji, as if greeting him.

Gu Wuji greeted the other person as well. He recognized him at a glance, knowing that this was the ghost who wanted to leave the village they had encountered earlier.

The shadowy figure nodded slightly. Although he was ultimately unable to leave due to the dungeon’s constraints, he still held a good impression of Gu Wuji, who had essentially granted his wish. Naturally, he wouldn’t want to kill Gu Wuji at this moment.

Under the shadowy figure’s actions, the other corpses performed a jaw-dropping maneuver: they all lay back in their graves, as if nothing had happened, the ground returning to its original level.

The shadowy figure then vanished.

Even after successfully leaving the area, everyone was still bewildered.

What happened? Was this ghost close to Gu Wuji and the others? Releasing them so easily was quite something.

Even the villagers seemed to regain some consciousness after the series of shocks.

The village chief’s expression turned cold as he pondered, “I must say, as expected of this person. Even after reincarnation, he can still bribe these ghosts. But I don’t believe all ghosts are… It seems I’ll have to increase the difficulty later.”

From that day on, his hatred for Gu Wuji had never disappeared.

The group continued onward, their fear largely subsided. The two players were now filled with regret for not following Gu Wuji earlier; their dungeon experience was completely different from theirs!

They had been chased to their deaths by ghosts, while Gu Wuji and his group seemed to be enjoying themselves in a rural village!

Yang Shao and Xiao Qin felt incredibly proud; they already considered Gu Wuji one of their own. Seeing the shocked expressions on the other two players’ faces, as if they were looking at country bumpkins… then they felt they had been too casual, perhaps they should give Gu Wuji a shout-out.

Suddenly, darkness enveloped them, and they realized they had entered a dense forest. The surrounding trees completely blocked out light, and all they could see were swaying shadows, accompanied by the rustling of the wind, like someone crying.

Even though the path was completely obscured by mist, they remembered there hadn’t been any trees here before; even without thinking, they knew it was the work of a vengeful ghost.

The scene was so terrifying that their breathing quickened.

A hand reached out from the ground and suddenly grabbed the hand of the player at the front. He immediately recalled the terrifying memory and screamed in terror… Even an experienced player lost his composure like this, showing how much psychological trauma this ghost had inflicted on him.

But everything was in vain. No matter how much the player struggled, even using items, the hand wouldn’t let go, pulling him downwards.

If this continued, the player would surely die on the spot.

The situation became tense again, especially since Gu Wuji and the others had never encountered this ghost before. Dealing with it wasn’t as simple as before; they needed to think things through.

“Strange, shouldn’t this be that forest?” Xiao Qin asked, bewildered. “How can there be a ghost like this?”

“It seems the situation is not simple.” A dark glint flashed in Yang Shao’s eyes. “Someone probably doesn’t like how smoothly things went before.”

Without thinking, Gu Wuji suddenly grabbed the player, immediately feeling an astonishing force pulling him downwards. No wonder the player couldn’t struggle.

But that force was nothing to Gu Wuji, so he simply yanked, pulling the player straight out of the mud, his hand retracting sharply.

The player, pulled out, almost thought he’d been torn in two, but at least he was safe. He immediately wept tears of gratitude at Gu Wuji’s feet.

“What happened?” Gu Wuji remembered that ghosts in the woods shouldn’t have this effect, so he asked another player.

“This is a ghost we encountered in a building.” The player’s face was filled with terror. “Legend has it that it died with its hands and feet cut off, and its resentment is extremely deep. It will grab other people’s hands and feet and never let go… These hands and feet can appear anywhere, and without finding the original body, there’s no way to expel this ghost!”

“Is it really that terrifying?” Gu Wuji said. “These ghosts are really hard to deal with, quite troublesome.”

His words drew slightly frightened looks from the others. After all, who was the person who had so casually pulled that player out of the mud?

The player rescued by Gu Wuji suddenly noticed his feet and anxiously cried out, “Watch out!!”

Before Gu Wuji could even move, a hand suddenly emerged from the mud and grabbed his ankle.

This time, the force used was much greater than when they had fought Gu Wuji earlier.

Gu Wuji suddenly realized, “So that’s it. That was just a decoy. Your real target is me, isn’t it?”

But it wasn’t over yet. Countless shadows appeared from the nearby woods— the vengeful spirits of the forest— preparing to attack the others while Gu Wuji was captured!

Even the bodyguards who had been silent until now seized the opportunity and pounced on them.
