Why was Bishop Eugen afraid of him?

Luo Mi looked at the archbishop, who was like an ancient bronze sculpture, with some doubt.

Bishop Eugen’s expression was calm and solemn, with a hint of pity in his eyes, just like any qualified bishop; one could not discern his inner emotions at all.

He walked ahead, leading Luo Mi and Anos into the back of the church.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral covered a considerable area and even had escalators— albeit made up of bearings and conveyor belts.

Eugen’s laboratory was on the second floor, and all sorts of testing equipment were ready. The air was filled with the smell of disinfectant, giving Luo Mi the feeling of entering a large hospital.

Height, weight, blood test, urine test…

After completing the inspection, it was nearly evening. Anos accepted Bishop Eugen’s invitation to dinner and stayed at the cathedral to have dinner together.

Luo Mi took a bite of the grape and nut bread and chewed it a couple of times with some surprise.

The bread wasn’t particularly delicious, but it gave you a unique and satisfying feeling that was incomparable to ordinary food.

Luo Mi thought for a moment before remembering: it seemed to be similar to what he ate at the dark café run by Susan.

There were more succubi on Susan’s side, so the food was specially adjusted to meet their needs… The bread here at St. Patrick’s Cathedral was the same?

Luo Mi did not hide her doubts and looked at Archbishop Eugen.

Eugen nodded slightly to him: “I hope Lord Lian is satisfied with the food at the church.”

Luo Mi took a sip of milk thoughtfully and asked the system in her mind, “Does Bishop Eugen have any connection with succubi? Does he have succubus blood?”

[Even if he did, he wouldn’t be able to become the Archbishop of the Imperial Capital, would he?]

“Could it be that Bishop Eugen is secretly keeping a succubus?” Luo Mi first guessed, then denied it himself, “Then he shouldn’t have such a deep fear of me.”

[Uh, actually, the host can ignore Bishop Eugene; he’s not really related to our mission, right?]

“That’s true, but my intuition tells me that there must be a connection between Anos, Queen Caroline II, Prince Charles, and Bishop Eugen in the secrets of Sig City,” Luo Mi said confidently. “If you don’t believe me, let’s sneak around and investigate tonight.”

When Archbishop Eugen politely invited Anos to stay overnight at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Luo Mi immediately agreed before Anos could even speak: “Thank you very much, Archbishop.”

Anos paused for a moment, glanced at Luo Mi with a hint of helplessness, and then looked up at Archbishop Eugen and said, “I’ll just stay with Lian.”

Bishop Eugene paused for a moment before saying tactfully, “Your Highness, there are many empty rooms in the church.”

His eyes clearly said, “It’s not a good reputation for the Holy Son and the Succubus to live in the same room.”

Anos looked at him calmly.

Bishop Eugen paused for a moment before saying, “I understand. Your Highness, please.”

….

That evening, Luo Mi lay in bed, listening to Anos’s breathing become long and steady, before quietly sitting up, intending to explore St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

During this time, he had digested the magic power from his second encounter with the demon Anos, and his ability to use illusions had become increasingly proficient, making him almost unrecognizable. Unfortunately, neither the succubus nor the illusions had any offensive means, leaving Luo Mi with no choice but to run whenever he encountered danger.

“Sigh, if I could hypnotize Bishop Maannulla, I could choose a handsome and powerful demon to ‘change jobs’ with.” Luo Mi had already shown the system the demon atlas held by the Vatican. As long as he completed one more task to plant a seed of charm on the bishop, he could upgrade her demon physique for the second time.

Just as Luo Mi reached the door, he suddenly heard Anos’s voice behind him: “Where are you going?”

“Uh, did I wake you up?” Luo Mi paused, quickly coming up with a few excuses in his mind. He then turned around, intending to brush it off, but then met a pair of bright red eyes, and the words he was about to say were immediately stuck in his throat.

He instinctively looked out the window, thinking it was a blood moon.

But a bright white moon hung in the sky, its light clear and gentle.

Luo Mi’s heart jumped, unsure whether the Anos in front of him was white or black.

He carefully studied Anos’s expression and tentatively asked, “Anos?”

Anos ran his hand through his slightly disheveled hair, which he had gotten from sleeping. He appeared somewhat aloof in the moonlight, but his tone was gentle: “Are you planning to sneak out to find Lord Eugen?”

Luo Mi asked instinctively, “How did you know?”

Anos threw back the covers and sat on the edge of the bed, smiling helplessly: “When Lord Eugen saw you, his expression was very strange, which I found rather odd.”

Luo Mi felt a little relieved when he remembered that Anos’s Confessional Eyes could see the color of the other person’s soul: it seems to be the personality of the Holy Son.

But it was not a blood moon today, so why were Anos’s eyes red again? Could something have happened that triggered Anos’s negative emotions?

Luo Mi couldn’t understand it for a moment. When he met Anos’s gaze, he felt inexplicably scared and forced a dry laugh, “I just acted on impulse. I’m going back to sleep now.”

“I didn’t stop you.” Anos grabbed the black and white priest’s robe from the hanger, put it on, and smiled slightly. “I’ll go with you.”

Huh? Luo Mi blinked.

“If I’m not with you, how can you possibly evade the various magical arrays inside St. Patrick’s Cathedral?” Anos explained. “St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the largest cathedral outside of the Holy City and a crucial hub of the Light Domain Barrier. If something happens to Lord Eugen, it could easily cause the Light Domain Barrier to break.”

Luo Mi scratched the back of his head, accepting the reason: “Okay. So where do we begin?”

Anos thought for a moment and said, “You decide.”

“I?”

“Since Lord Eugen dared to let me stay, he must have already taken thorough precautions against me. In that case, it would be easy for me to fall into his trap if I went looking for him. If you lead the way, it might be easier to find the problem.”

Luo Mi thought for a moment and said, “Then let’s go and take a look at the prison in the cathedral first.”

According to Luo Mi’s understanding, every cathedral had a divine prison, used to hold religious prisoners and demons used for experiments.

Since Bishop Eugen might be connected to succubi, Luo Mi’s first thought was the prison.

Anos nodded slightly, pointed his finger in the air to form a cross, and several beams of holy light formed a divine magic symbol, which landed on Luo Mi: “This way you won’t be detected by the divine magic array. Let’s go.”

….

The prison in St. Patrick’s Cathedral was also filled with a mechanical feel. In addition to the magic array, there were all kinds of gun barrels that automatically sought out enemies. The cold and stern cannon barrels made people afraid to try and see what they might fire.

Luo Mi became semi-transparent and floated in front of Anos, walking confidently under the surveillance cameras as if they were blind and didn’t see him at all.

Luo Mi inspected all the cells and carefully examined each prisoner, but found no clues related to succubi, which made him somewhat disappointed.

Anos’s crimson eyes fell on Luo Mi, and he slightly raised his eyebrows: “You seem to be looking for a specific target?”

Luo Mi remembered that Anos seemed unaware of the connection between Bishop Eugen and the succubus. After a moment’s thought, he offered his own fabricated explanation: “I suspect that Bishop Eugen has been bewitched by a high-ranking succubus.”

Anos indeed showed a surprised expression: “Why?”

“Racial instinct, I guess,” Luo Mi continued fabricating without batting an eye. “He has an aura of being planted with a seed of allure.”

Anos frowned slightly, his expression becoming much more serious: “Lord Eugen returns to the Holy City every year to report on his duties and meet with His Holiness the Pope. Logically speaking, it’s impossible for him to be implanted with the seed of enchantment… but if he really is, then it’s quite dangerous.”

Luo Mi searched the entire prison but found no clues. After thinking for a moment, he suggested, “How about we check the research lab at the church?”

Bishop Eugen had researched many things related to the collection of faith, so naturally he must have his own research room.

Anos pondered for a moment, then shook his head: “Let’s go directly to Lord Eugen.”

Luo Mi was taken aback: “Looking for him? You think his secret is hidden in the bedroom?”

Anos remained noncommittal: “Let’s go take a look first.”

….

The two returned to the first floor and quickly found the place where Bishop Eugen lived.

As a servant of God, Bishop Eugen’s residence was not luxurious; it was filled with books and notes, making it more like a library than a dwelling.

Luo Mi glanced at the screen and saw some words related to gear power, conveyor belt friction, lever transmission, and other related topics.

“Bishop Eugen is more like a scholar, no, a researcher, than a bishop,” Luo Mi remarked to Anos in a low voice.

Anos smiled silently, closed his eyes, and a faint holy light rose from beneath his feet, quickly spreading outwards.

Soon, the holy light dissipated, and Anos opened his eyes: “There is no hidden chamber here.”

Luo Mi stroked his chin: “Bishop Eugen really knows how to hide things.”

They searched inside St. Patrick’s Cathedral for most of the night but found absolutely no clues.

Anos glanced twice in the direction of Bishop Eugen’s bedroom, pondered for a moment, and said, “There’s only one last option left.”

“What method?”

“Just go and ask him.”

Luo Mi was stunned: “He definitely won’t tell the truth.”

Anos gently patted Luo Mi’s shoulder: “Then it’s up to you.”

Luo Mi was stunned for a moment, then quickly realized what he meant and pointed at himself in disbelief: “You mean you want me to seduce him?”

He was only slightly stronger than an average succubus now. How was he going to seduce a high-ranking archbishop with powerful holy light?

Anos smiled slightly: “I’ll help you.”

He tapped Luo Mi’s forehead twice with his finger. The divine spell that Anos had cast on Luo Mi to conceal his demonic features suddenly disappeared, revealing Luo Mi’s two demonic horns.

“Don’t move.”

Anos pressed his fingertip against Luo Mi’s horn, and Luo Mi felt something warm on his horn, so he looked at Anos in surprise.

Anos withdrew his blood-stained fingers, his expression unchanged: “Now try to charm him. I have linked our powers together, and as long as you can withstand the initial mental counterattack, you will definitely succeed in charming him.”

Luo Mi’s heart suddenly started beating faster.

He remembered that the Holy Son Anos was not skilled in divine magic, so most of the time he solved problems by brute force or by using equipment.

The Anos before him had already cast several divine spells he had never used before, and could even provide energy support for himself, who was a demon.

A somewhat alarming answer leaped into his mind, but he quickly suppressed it.

Well, as long as the other party didn’t say anything, he would pretend not to notice.

Luo Mi nodded vigorously, revealing a normal smile: “Then I’ll give it a try.”
