Yan Qingchi and Jiang Mochen disappeared from everyone’s sight. It was getting late, and they didn’t plan to go too far, so they just walked along the mountain road.
Yan Qingchi shone his flashlight on the ground and asked Jiang Mochen as they walked, “Do you think there are any animals in this mountain?”
“You can say something nice,” Jiang Mochen thought he was really talented and bold. “If we encounter a small one, we can still add a meal. If we encounter a big one, we will just give it a meal.”
Yan Qingchi smiled and said, “Don’t worry, the production team has done some preparation before making such a program. They know their limits. If an artist really gets into trouble on the show, then the show will be completely ruined.”
“We are different,” Jiang Mochen said. “We are the ones who are asking for trouble. The director told us not to leave, but we still left. If anything goes wrong, it’s all because of our own behavior. It’s not the production team’s fault.”
“Then why are you still coming out with me?” Yan Qingchi looked at him.
Jiang Mochen reached out and took his hand. “Isn’t it because I want to spend some time alone with you?”
Yan Qingchi glanced down at the hand he was holding, then looked up at him.
Jiang Mochen looked calm, as if it wasn’t him who was secretly holding hands. “Let’s go. Don’t you want to look around?” He pulled Yan Qingchi forward.
Yan Qingchi found it a little amusing. “The two of us are like those students with premature love problems who sneaked into the woods during school, even avoiding the teacher to hold hands.”
“That’s you. I’m not in a premature love relationship, and I’ve never sneaked into the woods with anyone.”
“Me neither,” Yan Qingchi argued.
“Isn’t it Li Xinran?” Jiang Mochen asked him.
Of course not. He wasn’t the original owner. Besides, the original owner and Li Xinran didn’t know each other until they graduated from college.
“No, I didn’t know him when I was in school.”
“That’s more like it,” Jiang Mochen said, satisfied.
Listening to his smug tone, Yan Qingchi felt deeply that if he ever told Jiang Mochen that he had travelled back in time, and that he was his first love before they had even had time to fall in love, Jiang Mochen would probably be so proud that his tail would be up in the air, and he might even walk with a lilt.
As he thought about this, he suddenly felt that it would be better not to tell him, so that Jiang Mochen wouldn’t have to show off in front of him every day.
Yan Qingchi pinched Jiang Mochen with his backhand and whispered, “You still have the right to criticize me? You act like you have no dark past.”
Jiang Mochen coughed, feeling a little embarrassed, and quickly changed the subject. “Well, isn’t there a small forest over there? Should we go in?”
Yan Qingchi: “!!! What are you trying to do! Jiang Mochen, calm down! We have to go back soon! This time is not suitable!”
Jiang Mochen: “…
“Who of us is getting older? I’m just asking if you want to go to the forest and take a look! Look! Yes, look! See what’s there!” Jiang Mochen felt like he was about to die of anger.
“So you just said drill.” Yan Qingchi squinted at him.
Jiang Mochen: “…I was just echoing what you said before. We have no chemistry at all. We’re just a playboy couple.”
Yan Qingchi raised their clasped hands and asked, “Do you want to get an online divorce?”
“Don’t even think about it!”
Yan Qingchi said, “Oh. Then let’s go to the grove and see what there is to ‘see’ in it.”
Jiang Mochen: …
But when they reached the front of the grove, they realized there was only a row of trees. There was no forest at all—besides the front row of trees, there was a relatively empty field behind them.
Yan Qingchi shone his flashlight on the trees in front of him and found that they were covered with green fruits. He wanted to pick a few to taste, but because the director repeatedly warned them not to pick wild fruits, he gave up the idea and dragged Jiang Mochen inside.
The woods were spacious, and the path much easier to navigate. As the two were walking, Jiang Mochen suddenly nudged Yan Qingchi and said, “Look at the sky.”
Yan Qingchi looked up and realized that they had been so busy on their way since entering the mountains that they hadn’t noticed the sky had suddenly become filled with stars.
Growing up in the city, most of the time when he looked up, it was pitch black. Seeing so many stars suddenly was a surprise.
Yan Qingchi looked up for a moment, then turned to Jiang Mochen and said, “There’s no Big Dipper.”
“It’s good to see so many stars. Why do you need a bicycle? I’ve never seen the Big Dipper in my life.”
“Me neither,” Yan Qingchi said. “That’s why I wanted to see it.”
Jiang Mochen thought for a moment and said, “Wait a minute.”
Yan Qingchi saw him loosen his grip, walk to a nearby location, break off a branch, and then walk back.
He held his flashlight in his left hand and the branch in his right and began to draw on the ground in front of Yan Qingchi. Yan Qingchi was a little confused at first, but soon he understood—Jiang Mochen had drawn the Big Dipper on the ground.
Jiang Mochen worked for a while before finally finishing. He straightened up, looked at the Big Dipper, then at Yan Qingchi, and said with a hint of resignation, “Just make do with it. This is already the best I’ve ever done.”
Yan Qingchi looked at him, his lips curling up unconsciously. He lowered his head to look at the Big Dipper. The flashlight shone on the ground and also on his heart, illuminating his joy. He had never imagined that Jiang Mochen would have such a trick, and he had never imagined that someone like him, who disliked painting, would actually draw a Big Dipper for him just because he asked to see it.
Yan Qingchi looked at the drawing on the ground and felt a little touched. To be fair, Jiang Mochen’s drawing wasn’t particularly good. After all, he was using a stick to draw on the ground, and straight lines wouldn’t be as straight as a ruler. There would inevitably be some distortion. But Yan Qingchi thought it was good enough.
Because the romance of this matter itself was worth everything.
“I think the painting is very good.” Yan Qingchi said gently.
Jiang Mochen chuckled, “As long as you like it.”
Yan Qingchi turned to look at him with a smile in his eyes, “Of course I like it.” He said, “Not only like it, but also think it’s very romantic. Jiang Mochen, why are you so romantic all of a sudden?”
Jiang Mochen took his hand, lifted it up, and kissed the back of his hand, “Maybe you are afraid that you and I will divorce online.”
Yan Qingchi was amused by his words, “Didn’t you say don’t even think about it?”
“Yes, don’t even think about it.” Jiang Mochen looked at him, “Do you still want it now?”
Yan Qingchi shook his head, “But I want to do something else?”
“What do you want to do?” Jiang Mochen was a little curious. His wife was good in every way, but how could this seemingly small head contain so many ideas, one after another, making it difficult for him to guess.
Yan Qingchi looked at him, thought for a while, and said, “Look up.”
Jiang Mochen looked up and saw a sky filled with stars, shimmering like diamonds against the black night sky.
Puzzled, he unconsciously lowered his head to ask Yan Qingchi, “You asked me to lift…” He didn’t get the last word out of his sentence because Yan Qingchi kissed him.
Jiang Mochen instantly understood his intention: he was waiting for him. He couldn’t help but smile, kissing him and reaching out to hug him.
“So you were waiting for me here,” Jiang Mochen kissed Yan Qingchi’s ear.
Yan Qingchi looked up at him. “In such a romantic atmosphere, of course we have to do something romantic.”
Jiang Mochen hugged him, “Then I’ll do more of these things in the future.”
“That’s great. I’m rooting for you, Mr. Jiang.”
“I won’t let you down, Mrs. Jiang.”
The two of them hugged each other and talked sweetly for a while. Jiang Mochen asked if he was still going. If he was, they had to hurry.
Yan Qingchi then realized they only had an hour of free time.
“Oh, we’re so miserable! There’s curfew, and we have to rush back to the dorms by the time the dean of studies sets. It’s awful!”
“Just accept it, Yan. That’s the downside of government-funded travel.”
“Then when we have time, let’s go on a self-funded trip,” Yan Qingchi suggested. “The two of us, or take the kids, all four of us.”
“Let’s just go together for now. The kids are too young. We’ll take them when they’re older.” Jiang Mochen made no secret of his selfish motives.
Yan Qingchi turned to look at him and tutted, “Is it because the kids are too young? You’re so obvious, everyone knows.”
Jiang Mochen hugged him. “I don’t care if people know, but it’s good that you know.”
Yan Qingchi felt like he had a bit of a sugar rush tonight, like a candy bun, full of sugar every time he bit into it. He knew what Jiang Mochen was thinking; he just wanted to spend time alone with him. Their relationship had followed a different order than most. They got married first, then had children, so they didn’t have much time to themselves. Jiang Mochen wanted more time like this, he wanted to feel his love properly, and Yan Qingchi also hoped that their pace could be slower and more delicate. They still had a long future, and a long time belonging to their children and family, so they could occasionally be wilful, just care about the two of them, and spend their time together.
Yan Qingchi looked at the Big Dipper on the ground, took out his mobile phone and took a picture of it, and took a picture of the starry sky at the same time.
He was a little relieved now, because there was no signal after entering the mountain, so the production team did not collect their mobile phones, and he was lucky enough to preserve the romance of tonight.
“Let’s go, let’s go to the front and take a look.” Yan Qingchi said, “Let’s play for a while before the curfew, Jiang classmate.”
“Okay.” Jiang Mochen agreed.
The two walked forward for a while and heard the sound of flowing water.
Yan Qingchi was a little surprised, “There is water here, I wonder if there are any fish in the water?”
“Even if there are fish, there is not enough time, just take a look and feast your eyes.”
“Are you hungry?” Yan Qingchi suddenly remembered that they had not eaten all the way, and he himself was not hungry, so he forgot to ask Jiang Mochen if he was hungry.
Jiang Mochen was not very hungry, so he said, “Don’t worry, let’s go over and take a look first, and then eat later.”
“Okay then.”
The two walked forward, and sure enough, they saw a stream flowing down the mountain. But the stream was too small and shallow, and you could see the bottom at a glance.
Yan Qingchi felt sorry, “There are no fish now.”
Jiang Mochen heard the regret in his words, patted his shoulder, and coaxed, “Just eat your dry food in peace, baby.”
