Even for a divine beast, the pain of being burned was unbearable.

Moreover, not every phoenix could endure the scorching flames and be reborn.

“Kill me,” the phoenix said, looking at Fu Ke. “It hurts so much, it really hurts. Burning day and night, I can’t take it anymore.”

A tear seemed to slide down its crimson eyes.

“Isn’t there any other way?” Fu Ke hesitated, looking at the phoenix. The phoenix had said a lot, and she could roughly understand it, but she still didn’t quite grasp it. What she understood was the phoenix’s pain.

“I am a phoenix, no matter which world I’m in. As long as I am a phoenix, this flame will never go out.” Before, it would only burn once every five hundred years, but now, with the increasing pain, hatred, and grudges of humanity, the burning had become a constant, day-and-night raging.

“Kill me, please. I’ll repay you with my fire essence.” The phoenix closed its eyes, offering no resistance. It was a completely different person from when it had struggled so fiercely.

Fu Ke’s throat tightened.

But she had no way to help this phoenix escape the burning pain.

Just as Fu Ke was hesitating, the phoenix suddenly struggled, and the barrier trapping it shattered like glass.

She’d been tricked!

Fu Ke’s face darkened, and three water arrows shot out instantly.

Finally freed, the phoenix opened its mouth and unleashed a ball of fire. The space protected its master, blocking the phoenix’s attack. At that moment, the phoenix charged straight up.

Fu Ke’s temples throbbed. She was a fool! Only a phoenix would believe her!

“Stop it!” Fu Ke quickly gave chase. A barrier in the sky blocked the phoenix’s path. The phoenix was exhausted, but it charged forward with unstoppable force.

Fu Ke gritted her teeth, her bow and arrows coalescing, her eyes fixed on the phoenix’s head. The water arrows flew, but the phoenix deftly dodged them.

The space was running out of energy and could no longer trap the phoenix. The earth cracked, and the water dried up. The animals kept in the space were all scorched unconscious.

Fu Ke didn’t feel the scorching heat because the space had used all its remaining energy to protect her.

Sensing the change in space, Fu Ke subconsciously looked at Zhang Zhongmin lying on the ground. Although he was unconscious, he had unconsciously activated his self-protection mechanism.

A thin layer of frost had condensed on his body, but it was clearly not very effective against the phoenix’s temperature.

With a thought, Fu Ke directly moved Zhang Zhongmin out of the space; if she hadn’t moved him, he would likely have been in grave danger.

“Chirp!” After being blocked as the phoenix soared into the sky, it instantly changed direction and charged straight at Fu Ke.

Fortunately, Zhang Zhongmin had already been moved out of the space, so Fu Ke no longer needed to worry about his safety. She had already arrived at a jewellery store in a district below D City. Before entering the space, Fu Ke had closed the door, and there was no danger inside the jewellery store.

So moving Zhang Zhongmin out now shouldn’t be a big problem.

Fu Ke hurriedly dodged, but the phoenix spewed out a burst of flames from its mouth, crimson flames that Fu Ke couldn’t dodge in time. The scorching temperature seemed to have already broken through the space’s protection against Fu Ke.

This couldn’t go on!

Fu Ke soared into the sky, the phoenix in hot pursuit.

No, wait.

Fu Ke suddenly stopped, turning to look at the charging phoenix. She had almost forgotten something crucial: even a divine beast like the phoenix was still made of flesh and blood.

That meant, being made of flesh and blood, it couldn’t escape the water within its body, even if it was covered in flames!

Taking a deep breath, Fu Ke closed her eyes, channelling the water element throughout the space. This was her space. In this space, she could control everything.

Seeing Fu Ke close her eyes, the phoenix let out a long, excited cry, its crimson wings adorned with golden patterns, the flames burning on them seeming to flare with excitement.

Opening its beak, the phoenix prepared to breathe fire, but its wings suddenly froze. In a second, it plummeted straight to the ground.

The entire space shook violently from the commotion.

“How…is this possible!” The phoenix gritted its teeth in pain, utterly shocked. Its wings had been broken from the violent fall.

Even now, it couldn’t understand how it had fallen!

“Human, how dare you! What have you done to me!” the phoenix roared angrily.

“Heh… Don’t forget, although this place can’t compare to an hour-space, it’s still space, my space,” Fu Ke said with a smile. “The five elements interact, and I can control water. Even that water that counters fire can’t harm you. But I can also control the water in your body.” As soon as she finished speaking, Fu Ke’s smile vanished instantly: “Dare to deceive me? Be prepared to accept the consequences of deceiving me!”

After a rare moment of sympathy, and then realizing she had been tricked, Fu Ke was furious.

The phoenix froze, tears welling in its crimson eyes. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to deceive you. I’m afraid of pain, but I’m even more afraid of death…” The phoenix rested its proud head on its injured wing: “Please, don’t kill me.”

Fu Ke sneered at the phoenix, who had automatically entered the role. This wasn’t a divine beast; it was clearly a drama queen!

“You think I’d believe you a second time after you’ve deceived me once?” Fu Ke opened her hands, water condensing into a bow and arrow, drawing the bowstring and aiming it at the phoenix. Fu Ke’s blood-red eyes gleamed slightly: “No, being deceived once is enough.”

The phoenix fluttered but felt dizzy and unable to move. This feeling was as if flames were drying up the blood in its body. It glared angrily at Fu Ke: “Human! How dare you!”

‘Whoosh—’ Three water arrows shot out.

The phoenix’s eyes widened, its crimson eyes bulging with unwillingness, the light in its eyes gradually dimming and finally disappearing.

“Why wouldn’t I dare? You don’t belong in this world. Even if there is such a thing as the Heavenly Dao, it won’t blame me.” Fu Ke chuckled.

The flames on the phoenix instantly burned even more fiercely. Fu Ke stared intently at the raging fire, her blood-red eyes somewhat indifferent. The flames grew smaller and smaller until they disappeared, leaving behind a crimson bead on the ground.

Before Fu Ke could even look at the bead, the vortex in the space instantly swallowed it.

“…”

Fu Ke blinked; she just wanted to take a look. But it was just swallowed up by the space like that.

….

Feeling the sudden loss of connection with Phoenix, 666, who had been leisurely eating and drinking, was stunned. In his view, releasing Phoenix was the fastest and best solution, letting Phoenix take action. He wouldn’t have to do anything to easily take down the D City base.

But what was going on?

Suddenly, 666 lost his appetite, his face turning terrifyingly grim.

He and Phoenix had a master-servant contract; unless Phoenix died, their connection couldn’t be severed. In this world, how could anyone kill Phoenix?

*Bang!*

Kicking over the obstacle in front of him, 666 strode out: “I’ll see who’s so powerful that they even managed to destroy my Phoenix!”

He smiled darkly.

Fu Ke returned to the D City base the next morning. Zhang Zhongmin had been safely brought back, but for some reason, he hadn’t woken up.

He had frozen himself, and Fu Ke didn’t know what to do.

Back at the Exclusive Restaurant, Fu Ke suddenly remembered the woman she had forgotten. The situation had been urgent, so she hadn’t had time to inform Xiao Bin before leaving in a hurry. After placing Zhang Zhongmin on the sofa, Fu Ke went to the D City base.

“Fu Ke?” The person at the door saw Fu Ke at a glance, then gasped when their gaze fell on her burned hand: “You got it on your hand!”

“It’s nothing, where are Liu Guo’an and the others? I need to talk to them.” Fu Ke looked at the wound on her arm; it didn’t hurt anymore, so it probably wasn’t serious.

It just looked a bit horrifying.

Feng Han, however, pulled Fu Ke aside without explanation: “What do you mean it’s nothing? Come here, let me bandage it for you. How did you get like this?”

“I need to talk to them. I’ll bandage it later.” She didn’t know if Du Weiwei, who had been left on the rooftop for a day and a night, was still alive.

If it were before, Fu Ke would have immediately used her spiritual power to check, but this time, dealing with the phoenix had almost exhausted both her spiritual power and water-based abilities, so Fu Ke dared not use them now. She would probably need to rest for a while.

The space was now a mess, and Fu Ke didn’t even have the eyes to look at the cracked and pitted ground.

“Fu Ke.” Feng Han held her uninjured hand. “I’ll have someone notify them. Let me bandage you first. Look at the state of your arm.”

Besides, Fu Ke was injured and couldn’t enter the base.

Even without using her mental powers, Fu Ke’s senses were still sharp. She immediately sensed Feng Han’s worry about her injury and her predicament.

“Actually, you don’t need to find them.” Fu Ke turned her head away. “I just wanted to say that Du Weiwei is on the rooftop…”

“Du Weiwei?” Feng Han said in surprise. “We found her last night. She looks quite pitiful. After being treated, she was placed in the observation room.”

With such severe injuries, no one could guarantee that Du Weiwei wouldn’t get infected.

Last time, when Du Weiwei was in the observation room, at least Xiao Bin had to guard the door every step of the way. But now, with Du Weiwei so badly injured, no one was willing to take care of her.

Feng Han was the one who applied the medicine. Even though she didn’t like Du Weiwei before, seeing her in such a miserable state still made Feng Han feel a little sad.

Found her? “Then I’m fine, I’ll go back now.”

“Hey, wait, let me put some medicine on you!” Feng Han quickly grabbed Fu Ke: “You’re a girl, after all. If you don’t treat such a serious injury properly, what if it leaves a scar?”
