A few minutes later, all the hooligans of the village collapsed to the ground, staring at Gu Wuji with horror.

They wondered how this man had grown up! How could he, looking so young and handsome, possess such incredible strength?

As they scrambled to their feet, they hurried out, not even caring about their belongings, brushing past Yang Shao and Xiao Qin who had just arrived. The two who arrived later, perhaps understanding what had happened, shook their heads. Gu Wuji was a man who could even beat up a ghost! Beating up a few unemployed hooligans was nothing.

The girl over there was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly thanked Gu Wuji for his help. Together, they gathered up the things on the ground.

“Thank you so much,” she said quickly. “If it weren’t for you, I don’t know what I would have done.”

“It’s okay.” Gu Wuji felt a vague sense of having experienced something like this before. He also noticed that the girl seemed a little too calm, considering her parents had just died… but considering their family didn’t seem to have the best of relationships, this didn’t seem surprising.

Furthermore, the girl had told him her sister had died several years ago, but the villagers were saying the family’s eldest daughter had been sacrificed over a decade earlier. Someone must have been lying. What was going on?

Gu Wuji inquired, “But won’t the village help with your family affairs?” Living alone for such an underage girl seemed a bit forced.

“Of course they will,” the girl said. “It’s just that the village won’t have time to deal with my affairs until after the event. It shouldn’t be a big deal. We’ll notify my relatives outside then…”

Gu Wuji felt relieved at this.

Nearby, Yang Shao was observing the strangeness of the house, sensing a eerier atmosphere than when they had lived there before. He asked directly, “This is also one of the seven buildings in the village legend. Have you encountered anything strange?”

The girl looked evasive. “Well, I’m not sure. You guys sit here for now. I’ll get something to eat.”

Even Yang Shao could see something was amiss, wondering if the girl had also become terminally ill and, if things continued like her parents, she might commit suicide.

….

Over there, the girl entered the kitchen, and a dark face appeared faintly on the wall beside her. It was the ghost face that Gu Wuji had encountered before.

“Sister, have they discovered something?” The girl whispered.

Ever since she could remember, because she was not a boy, her parents treated her very badly, and the only one who took care of her was her sister. Although her sister died after that incident, she did not leave her side.

If it were not for this, she might not have been able to grow up safely in this place and might have gotten into trouble because of all the strange things in the village.

When she took in Gu Wuji and the others, the girl had originally thought of letting her sister devour these outsiders to get rid of the constraints. The hint to Gu Wuji was also half true and half false. After all, there really was something in the fog outside.

But she did not expect Gu Wuji to be so kind, and she couldn’t help but feel a little bit sorry at this moment.

“After all, these guys are no ordinary people. They probably have other motives for coming to this village,” the shadow said slowly. “It’s best you avoid contact with them, lest you get involved in something later.”

“But, these guys seem genuinely good people. Shouldn’t we warn them?” the girl said hesitantly. “The seal on this place is about to break. Can we ask them to help free you?”

“No need.” The shadow recalled the events of that day, feeling a slight lingering fear. However, Gu Wuji’s words and actions alleviated that fear. “He’s been targeted by ‘that being’. If we rashly approach him, who knows what will happen.”

The girl’s face immediately changed. She hadn’t expected Gu Wuji and his group to be involved in so many things.

“But he’s certainly a good person,” the shadow concluded. “If you really want to thank him, tell him to be careful.”

“Be careful of what?”

“Be careful of those coffins,” the shadow said softly, as if worried someone else might notice the commotion.

Although the girl didn’t fully understand, she felt relieved at the thought of being able to help Gu Wuji and immediately headed outside.

“Those targeted by ‘that being’ can’t leave, can’t escape. Everything was predetermined from the beginning…” the shadow pondered. “But if he can find that single method, he’ll have a way out. But can he really do it?”

Besides, time was running out. The ceremony was to take place the day after tomorrow.

“But speaking of which, what exactly attracted ‘that being”s’ attention? He clearly had never been to this village before, or was there something else I didn’t know about?”

….

Gu Wuji and the others rested for a moment, ate some dry snacks, and prepared to continue their journey through the village.

As they said goodbye, the girl whispered to Gu Wuji what her sister had told her.

Gu Wuji nodded. Although he wasn’t entirely sure what had happened, he decided to keep it in mind.

Although he was already planning to flee and report to the police, he had some time, so he took the opportunity to explore the village and find some more information.

When the sun went down, everything seemed shrouded in mist, with every house shut. No one lit a lamp, and the entire village was utterly silent.

Luckily, Gu Wuji and the others had brought plenty of power banks, and since their phones hadn’t been used much in the past few days due to lack of internet, they could still use them for light.

The three of them found a place to sit and wait for midnight before heading to the house. Yang Shao held onto his protective gear the entire time, while Xiao Qin trembled nervously beside him, feeling cold.

“This place is truly terrifying,” Xiao Qin sighed. Feeling exhausted, he leaned back and suddenly felt something hard against him.

Xiao Qin’s body stiffened, and he turned his head abruptly to find a pitch-black coffin that had been placed behind him. Worst of all, it was still open.

“What’s this?” He took a few steps back, trying to call out to Gu Wuji and Yang Shao, but they were gone.

“What the hell is going on?!” Xiao Qin was so frightened that his legs went weak. How could he dare to walk alone in such a place? “Brother Gu? Yang Shao?! Come out quickly, don’t scare me!”

The next moment, he suddenly caught a glimpse of several figures walking in the fog not far away. One of them was very familiar just by looking at the back, although the clothes seemed a little different, and he was wearing a red dress as if he was going to hold a wedding.

But for some reason, he clearly felt that the person must be Gu Wuji.

Xiao Qin was overjoyed, and without thinking too much, he suddenly chased after him.

….

On the other side, the time was almost midnight. Gu Wuji called two people to go together.

Xiao Qin stood behind him and grabbed Gu Wuji’s sleeve tightly.

Gu Wuji didn’t see anything wrong with it; after all, Xiao Qin was usually so timid.

The three of them quickly arrived at their destination. The middle-aged man stealthily opened the door, beaming with joy at the sight of the three of them, and quickly let them into the courtyard.

“You’re here, um…” the middle-aged man looked at them eagerly.

Yang Shao simply tossed him some money, and the middle-aged man beamed. He handed them the battered tricycle and explained the route out of the village. “This road is the most commonly used by people in our village for trade. It’s smooth, making it easier to leave.”

“But driving this late at night won’t scare the whole village?” Gu Wuji asked.

“You don’t know, but the people in this village are extremely superstitious. They’ll treat any noise they hear at night as if they’re deaf.” The middle-aged man said, “You can go safely.”

Gu Wuji still found it a bit mysterious, but since that was the case, that was it… there was no other way to leave the village.

“There’s a problem. None of us can drive a tricycle,” Yang Shao said.

The middle-aged man’s smile froze. “Well, I can’t leave… After all, the ceremony is drawing near. The fog outside the village is something everyone knows not to touch. No one dares leave at night, let alone leave the village.”

“What about now?” Yang Shao pulled another stack of cash from his pocket. Honestly, Gu Wuji was curious how he’d managed to get so much cash here.

The middle-aged man had succumbed to the financial pressure, especially since he’d already been planning to go and collect the bodies for Gu Wuji and the others. He’d lived in this village for so long, he knew the rules. It didn’t make sense for him to die first.

And just like that, the noisy sound of a tricycle starting up echoed through the silent village, frightening countless villagers, who thought something was up.

The tricycle soon left the village center and reached the mountain road outside. It was extremely remote, surrounded by a pitch-black fog, making it impossible to see anything.

Strangely enough, the occasional graves along the road were incredibly clear, even the names inscribed on them clearly visible.

Yang Shao frowned. He knew he couldn’t leave the village, but since the middle-aged man offered him a tricycle, perhaps it was a clue to the dungeon. He had to face it, no matter how dangerous it was.

If he didn’t have this much courage, he wouldn’t have made it to this dungeon. Although Yang Shao wondered how someone like Xiao Qin had gotten to this point, the eerie atmosphere around him made the middle-aged man’s heart race. Countless terrifying rumors about the village played through his mind, and his hands trembled. But the thought of the money he could get gave him courage.

“I see someone waving at us from the side of the road,” Gu Wuji suddenly said.

The middle-aged man was completely horrified by Gu Wuji’s words. What kind of person was that? That must be a ghost! He immediately drove the tricycle faster, but due to its dilapidated condition, it soon developed problems and became stuck in a pothole.

“It’s going to take a lot of effort to lift this vehicle out of the pit…” The middle-aged man showed a look of despair, as if he could feel the ghost chasing him from behind.

The next moment, he felt a strong force coming from the vehicle’s body, as it was obviously lifted out of the pit.

Gu Wuji climbed back into the tricycle and said with some surprise, “I didn’t expect this vehicle to be so light.”

The middle-aged man: “???”
