Bathed in moonlight, the two boarded a floating bus. They didn’t exchange much conversation, simply silently clasping their hands.

They quickly disembarked. Not far away, a warm light shone from a house.

Side by side, they walked towards the light. As they neared the door, Bai Yue suddenly paused.

Shang Yufei glanced at him, then turned back: “It’s okay, I’m here.”

These simple words undoubtedly gave Bai Yue immense courage. He grasped Shang Yufei’s hand firmly, gathered his composure, and headed inside.

As he opened the door, hurried footsteps echoed from the living room.

“Brother!”

His younger brother rushed forward for a bear hug, striking Bai Yue in the stomach. He took a few steps back by this, helplessly patting his brother’s head.

Shang Yufei grabbed Bai Yiyan by the collar and pulled him aside: “Enough! You’re about to give your brother internal injuries.”

Bai Yiyan slapped Shang Yufei’s hand away and walked away without a word.

Just then, Bai parents also emerged from the room.

“Yue Yue!” Mother Bai grabbed her son’s hand. “Let me see if your classmate hurt you.”

Bai Yue shook his head. “I’m fine.” He paused. “I’m sorry I worried you.”

Mother Bai said, “What apologies? Come on, let’s go inside.”

Bai Yue was dragged inside. He looked at his mother, his words catching in his throat.

However, the longer this matter dragged on, the more he might lose his courage—just like when he’d avoided Shang Yufei.

Bai Yue sighed softly and whispered, “You should know.”

The woman walking in front paused. She exchanged a glance with her husband and turned back. “Mom thinks there’s an error in the notice. I’ll take you to the hospital tomorrow to get the information corrected.”

Bai Yue said nothing.

He knew his parents would find it hard to accept. After all, he’d lived his entire life as an Omega. Now him suddenly transforming into an Alpha would be hard for anyone to comprehend.

“The doctor checked twice, and the results were the same,” Bai Yue said. “The secondary differentiation thing must be true.”

Mother Bai was at a loss for words and looked to her husband for help.

Seeing this, Father Bai said, “Anyway, don’t stand here for now. Let’s go inside and talk.” He looked at the boy standing by the door. “Xiao Shang, come in and sit down too.”

A few minutes later, the family gathered in the living room for a long-awaited family meeting.

Bai Yue briefly recounted his visit to the hospital and what the doctor had said, concluding, “So, the test results should be correct.”

The Bai parents were speechless, unsure what to say. Cases of secondary differentiation were not uncommon, but they had never imagined it would happen to their son.

Mother Bai was silent for a long time before speaking, “In that case, you and Xiao Shang…” Her eyes flickered between the two children.

But what she said next was the key.

Bai Yue glanced at Shang Yufei, then reached out and placed his hand on the back of his.

This single gesture made the Bai parents understand their son’s intentions.

Bai Yue: “I’m not going to break up with him. So, I’m sorry…” He smiled, “I can’t give you two grandchildren.”

Shang Yufei frowned and took Bai Yue’s hand in his own. “We’re serious.”

The atmosphere suddenly became solemn.

Continuing the family line was a major concern for the people of the empire. The Bai family still had a young son, so it wasn’t a big deal. But that didn’t mean they would accept their child being with someone of the same sex.

Bai Yiyan, sitting nearby, also sensed the eerie atmosphere and felt a surge of unease.

Seeing his parents’ silence, Bai Yue wanted to say something. But Mother Bai suddenly stood up and left her seat.

Startled, Bai Yue was about to chase her, but his father stopped him, saying, “Alright, just leave her alone. It’s just that this happened so suddenly, and she’s a little confused.”

Father Bai smiled, saying, “I don’t mind. As long as you’re happy.”

Bai Yue sat back down.

Dinner had been prepared in advance, but when they ate together, Mother Bai still hadn’t come down.

Despite the sumptuous menu, the meal was bland. After dinner, Father Bai wiped his mouth and said with a smile, “Xiao Shang, I have something to tell you. Come to the study.”

Bai Yue was clearing away the dishes. He looked up at this and said, “Dad…”

“It’s okay.” Shang Yufei patted Bai Yue’s back. “I’ll talk to uncle.” The two of them entered the study, one after the other, and closed the door behind them.

Father Bai found a place to sit down. Turning back, he saw Shang Yufei still standing there, so waving, he said, “Please sit anywhere.”

Shang Yufei walked over but didn’t sit down. “Just say what you want to say.”

Father Bai knew what the boy was thinking; it was simply a show of determination. He didn’t force it and got straight to the point.

“I asked you to come here because of Yue Yue’s secondary differentiation. Since he’s already an Alpha, you should know what it means if you insist on being together, right?”

Shang Yufei said frankly, “As long as you don’t mind, I don’t care what others think.”

Father Bai: “Do you know the laws of our empire?”

Shang Yufei’s grades were poor, and he spent most of his time slacking off in class. Fighting was fine, but he wasn’t sure about the laws of the empire.

Seeing the confusion on his face, Father Bai sighed and said, “Most people don’t really pay much attention. But your genetic level is A, so you should be aware of this.”

Shang Yufei frowned.

Father Bai recited the law: “Those with excellent genetics are obligated to leave offspring for the empire. Upon reaching adulthood, matches will be recommended based on genetic level. If unmarried by the age of 25, marriages will be arranged by the state.”

In short, the empire had no control over ordinary people, nor did it want to. However, those with genetic level A or above must have children of their own.

Generally speaking, recommending based on compatibility was a surefire way to go. Most unmarried people, no matter how reluctant they may be, would change their minds after spending some time with their matches.

Father Bai studied Shang Yufei’s face and asked, “Can you and Yue Yue withstand this pressure?”

Meanwhile, not long after Father Bai and Shang Yufei entered the study, Bai Yue, carrying food, headed upstairs and stopped in front of his parents’ bedroom door.

He raised his hand and knocked twice on the door. “Mom, have some food.”

He waited a moment, but there was no response from inside. He said, “I’m leaving it at the door.”

Just as he was about to squat down, the door opened. His mother stood behind the door, looking at him. “Come in.”

Bai Yue picked up the food and followed her inside.

The room was lighted. When Bai Yue put the food on the table, he saw that his notice was also lying there. He picked up the notice and looked at his mother.

Mother Bai sat down on the small sofa with her back to him. “I never thought something like secondary differentiation would happen to you.”

Bai Yue: “Is being an Alpha bad?” He said casually, “My genetic level isn’t bad either. Perhaps one day, our family will be able to move from a comfortable life to a wealthy one.”

“That’s not what Mom meant,” Mother Bai turned around.

“Whether you’re an Alpha, Beta, or Omega, you’re still our son, and our feelings for you won’t change. But you have to think carefully about the difficulties you’ll face if you continue to be with Xiao Shang. Perhaps no one will understand you, and no one will bless you…”

Bai Yue put down the notice, walked over to his mother, squatted down, and took her hand.

“I just want you to understand, that’s all.”

Mother Bai didn’t understand. No matter how Bai Yue’s identity changed, he was still the same person. His feelings for Xiao Shang couldn’t just disappear as well.

But she worried that at some point in the future, if they finally couldn’t bear the pressure and decided to break up, the pain they would feel would be a hundred times greater than it was now.

Short-term pain was better than a long-term one, and she hoped both her son and Xiao Shang would think it through.

Bai Yue: “I’ll overcome this together with him.”

Seeing her son’s determined expression, Mother Bai sighed softly. She knew her son well; he was stubborn to the core. No matter how much she protested, she feared it would be difficult to change his mind.

There was another problem—Bai Yue’s genetic level was unusual. She had hoped that the hospital’s registration of the child’s genetic level and gender was simply an error, a simple correction. However, the reality was not so simple.

Genetic level S+.

Perhaps for the rich and powerful, this was the highest honor. But in her eyes, it would undoubtedly be accompanied by countless disputes and turmoil.

Her dream was simply that her child could live a peaceful and happy life. Now, it seemed that this was just wishful thinking.

Seeing the empty space around her son’s neck, Mother Bai asked, “Where’s your ring?”

Bai Yue pulled the jewelry from his pocket and handed it to his mother: “The chain is broken.”

Mother Bai stood up, pulled a new silver chain from her jewelry box, strung it on, and handed it back to her son.

Then, she stroked his short, light gray hair and said, “Your S+ gene level will surely attract many people, and you’ll face considerable temptations in your future life. I hope you can stay true to your original aspirations and not be carried away by the flattery and temptation.”

Bai Yue: “…”

Bai Yue: “I understand.”

Though still looking worried, Mother Bai no longer seemed to want to deny his decision. She didn’t say anything more about his insistence on being with Shang Yufei.

Bai Yue went downstairs and happened to see Shang Yufei emerging from the study, their eyes meeting.

Bai Yue: “You didn’t say anything, did you?”

Shang Yufei shook his head: “Nothing.” He frowned slightly and looked away. “It’ll be okay,” he said, speaking both to Bai Yue and himself.

Regardless, the matter ended without incident in the Bai family.

That evening, Bai Yue, after showering and drying his hair, walked into the bedroom to find his brother huddled under the covers, with only his head sticking out. Upon seeing him enter, his gaze immediately glued to him.

Bai Yue put down the towel. “What’s wrong?”

“…” Bai Yiyan asked. “Brother, have you really become an Alpha?”

Bai Yue nodded.

“But it shouldn’t affect you,” he said. “I’m still your brother.”

Hearing this, Bai Yiyan huddled under the covers, throwing himself onto the bed, seemingly troubled. After a moment, a muffled voice emanated from beneath the covers.

“I know.”

He hated Shang Yufei.

For as long as he could remember, he’d spent most of his time with his older brother. Shang Yufei’s appearance had undoubtedly robbed him of that time. Furthermore, the guy had always bullied him since he was little.

For example, telling his favorite Omega about the time he wet his pants as a child.

Or, constantly picking up his clothes, carrying them around like they were belongings.

And most damning of all, the fact that he’d taken his beloved older brother away from him!

Of course, that couldn’t be said out loud. He was already in his double digits, no longer a child, and he didn’t want to be treated like one anymore.

“…”

But the man’s actions after his older brother became an Alpha were truly astonishing.

Thinking back to himself, if the Omega he secretly loved suddenly revealed he was actually an Alpha, Bai Yiyan would probably collapse and question his life.

So, based on this very fact, Shang Yufei was indeed more manly than him.

Bai Yue saw his younger brother hiding under the covers, seemingly troubled by something, and was about to ask when he saw his brother pull back the covers, his expression serious.

“If that guy ever regrets your secondary differentiation in the future, tell me, and I’ll definitely teach him a lesson.”

Bai Yue looked at his younger brother’s innocent face and tilted his head. “He won’t.” He took a few steps forward, reached out to touch his brother’s head, and chuckled softly. “But thank you.”

Meanwhile, Fang Zhenren and his younger brother were still unconscious in the classroom of the old school. They were discovered by the security guards on their daily patrol and immediately rushed to the hospital. They lay there for days, unable to wake up. No external injuries were seen, but it was as if possessed by an evil spirit.

Therefore, ghost stories about the old school had long started circulating around Luohua College.

Of course, this was a story for later. Since Fang Zhenren wasn’t generally well-liked, his classmates didn’t react much to his repeated hospitalizations.

The third-year students’ awakening period had ended, and they were returning to class one after another.

Meanwhile, Bai Yue’s birthday was approaching.
