Late night on New Year’s Eve.

The main road of K City was so deserted that people could hardly remember the bustling scene of ordinary times.

The dark blue sports car sped through the empty long street. The shadows of trees and street lamps passing by the car window were like chasing ghosts, along with the noise and lights of thousands of houses, being left behind in the gorgeous scenery behind.

After driving against the current through the dark night, the car finally stopped on the main road next to the Tang family compound.

Luo Zhan took out his cell phone and dialed a number.

The other side picked up quickly.

Across the phone, the girl’s voice was filled with soft joy: “Luo Luo, Happy New Year!”

“Happy New Year,” Luo Zhan agreed, and then smiled and said, “But it’s not New Year yet.”

“Almost there, almost there.”

“…”

The little girl’s voice sounded particularly lively tonight, and Luo Zhan couldn’t help but curl his lips. He leaned forward, leaned over the steering wheel, and looked at the lights of the Tang family dormant in the dark at the end of the fork in the road.

The twinkling lights reflected into his dark eyes, revealing an unusual tenderness.

“Do you have any New Year’s wishes, little girl? The wishing well will help you make it come true.”

“New Year’s wish…” the little girl mumbled. After thinking hard for a long time, she asked in a low voice: “If I haven’t thought of it yet, can I mention it later?”

Luo Zhan couldn’t help laughing: “Only those proposed at midnight on New Year’s Day can be called New Year’s wishes. Of course, they don’t count after that. Girls can’t be so greedy.”

Tang Ran said a little dejectedly: “Oh.”

This lost tone pierced Luo Zhan’s heart accurately.

After a few seconds of silence, he leaned sideways on the steering wheel, supported his forehead with his hand and smiled helplessly: “Forget it, I give up. Ran Ran can mention your New Year’s wish whenever you want, even if it’s delayed until the last day of this year, I will make it come true for you.”

“That’s not possible,” the little girl smiled, her smile bright and radiant even through the phone, “You have to have a new New Year’s resolution on the last day.”

Luo Zhan burst out laughing.

There was silence on the phone for a few seconds.

Then the two of them spoke almost at the same time –

“Luo Luo, are you home now?”

“Has our little girl returned to the side house?”

After a tacit understanding, Luo Zhan smiled and said, “I asked first.”

Tang Ran hesitated: “Isn’t it me?”

“No.”

“Oh.”

“So you have to answer me first,” Luo Zhan couldn’t help but curl his lips after bullying the little girl, “Have you returned to the side house?”

“Yeah, it’s been a while since I came back.”

“Still awake?”

“The driver uncle is here and said he wants to spend New Year’s Eve with me. And,” the little girl said in a shy tone, “I’m waiting for your call.”

Luo Zhan asked unexpectedly: “How did you know I would call you?”

Tang Ran thought about it and said seriously: “Because I want to call Luo Luo, I think Luo Luo should think the same.”

Luo Zhan was stunned.

After a moment, he lowered his eyes and couldn’t help laughing: “You really are…”

Tang Ran waited curiously: “?”

Luo Zhan did not continue, nor did he explain, he just said: “When Ran Ran regains her sight, I will definitely keep a close eye on you.”

Tang Ran was puzzled and could only respond blankly and obediently.

“Is the driver uncle with you now?”

“Well,” the little girl laughed, “do you want to wish your uncle a happy new year?”

“No, he’ll take the opportunity to hang up on me.” Luo Zhan joked, “But I also have a New Year’s wish, can Ran Ran help me realize it?”

Tang Ran was stunned for a moment, then became excited after reacting: “What is it, Luo Luo, tell me.”

“Are you so happy that you can help me fulfill my New Year’s wish?” Luo Zhan couldn’t help but tease her.

“Of course. You’ve always been my wishing well, and I want to be yours, too.”

“Yeah.” Luo Zhan said cheerfully, “You’re asking me where I am. I’m not at home now. I’m not far from you.”

Tang Ran was stunned.

Luo Zhan said: “So my New Year’s wish is to see my little girl appear in front of me like magic before midnight.”

“!”

After knowing each other for more than half a year, Tang Ran and Luo Zhan had already reached the point where they could understand each other’s unspoken words at once.

When the little girl came back to her senses, a happy voice came from the phone to Luo Zhan’s ears——

“Uncle, can you take me to the roadside where we usually change cars? Luo Luo is waiting for me there!”

“…”

Without hearing the answer, Luo Zhan could already imagine Lan Jingqian’s reaction. He couldn’t help but hold his forehead and lower his eyes, laughing hoarsely.

The high beam headlights of the car pierced through the dark night and shone directly on Luo Zhan’s face through the front window.

Luo Zhan, who was leaning over the steering wheel, instinctively raised his arm to block the dazzling light in front of his eyes. When he looked up and saw where the light came from, Luo Zhan turned his head away with a half-angry and half-smiling look and sneered.

The black sedan finally stopped facing his car.

Luo Zhan pushed open the door of the supercar, stepped out of the car with his long legs, and stepped on the ground that was frozen hard by the cold winter.

The leather shoes made a slight but rhythmic sound as they stepped on the hard asphalt road.

A few seconds later, Luo Zhan stopped outside the passenger seat of the semi-convertible car. He then leaned over, holding the door open.

“Happy New Year’s Eve, Ran Ran.”

The little girl in the passenger seat, holding the seat belt, had a red face. He didn’t know if it was because of the wind or because of excitement, but she looked up, her eyes curved, and her mouth curled up: “Happy New Year’s Eve, Luo Luo!”

This conversation, which seemed to take place in unison, made the man holding the steering wheel in the driver’s seat even more unhappy. Lan Jingqian turned his head and looked at Luo Zhan.

Luo Zhan, who received the gaze, raised his eyes and smiled lazily: “Long time no see, uncle.”

“…”

In the recent New Year, Lan Jingqian was so busy at the company that he even showed up less frequently at Tang Ran’s place. So apart from phone calls, he and Luo Zhan had not met at the side house for nearly a month.

In other words, Luo Zhan stayed with his precious daughter without any supervision, and it was unknown whether he had done anything bad.

But Tang Ran was completely unguarded against Luo Zhan.

The old father sighed in his heart, his face serious: “It’s so cold, and you still have to call people out. What if Xiao Ran catches a cold?”

Just as Luo Zhan was about to speak, the girl in the passenger seat had already turned her head away and said seriously, “No, uncle, it’s only been a while, my resistance is not that bad, and I’m dressed warmly.”

Lan Jingqian was speechless.

Luo Zhan held the car door open and smiled dumbly: “I didn’t think it through. I wanted to come over to spend New Year’s Eve with the little girl, but Lin Qianhua and the others had gone home, so the car couldn’t come. I could only use this method…”

Tang Ran couldn’t help but turn back happily when she heard half of it: “Are you here to spend New Year’s Eve with me, Luo Luo?”

“What else?”

Luo Zhan laughed and raised his hand to rub the little girl’s head through her woolen hat: “I ran across most of K City, is it just to say Happy New Year’s Eve to you in person?”

“Then please get in the car. Can you… can you hide in the back seat?”

Lan Jingqian tapped the steering wheel and smiled faintly: “After all, it’s a convertible. If security comes close to check, the chances of being discovered in the back seat are too high – let’s go in the trunk, it’s safe there.”

Tang Ran was stunned when she heard this: “Can you hide people in the trunk?”

Lan Jingqian didn’t rush to respond and turned to look at Luo Zhan.

After staring at each other for two seconds, Luo Zhan raised his eyebrows: “It’s all up to you.”

“Don’t.”

Tang Ran was anxious, so she turned sideways and felt Luo Zhan’s hand on the car door beside her. His knuckles were slender and strong, but they were as cold as ice and snow.

The little girl looked up anxiously: “Why aren’t you wearing gloves?”

Luo Zhan smiled helplessly: “I should ask you this question.” The little girl’s hands were much warmer than his, thin, white and soft.

“But I brought a hot water bottle, and you drove here.”

“That’s all right. I closed the hood on the way.”

“Oh…” Tang Ran lowered her head, not knowing what she was thinking about.

Luo Zhan suppressed his reluctance to let their skin touch and pulled his cold hand back from the little girl: “Okay. It’s too cold outside, put your hand back.”

Tang Ran held his fingers tightly and didn’t let go: “It must be very uncomfortable to hide in the trunk, should we think of another way?”

“Don’t worry.” Luo Zhan smiled dumbly, “See you later.”

“…”

Twenty minutes later.

The black sedan slowly stopped in the open space in front of the Tang family’s side house.

Duan Qingyan, who was waiting at the stone steps, quickly walked to the passenger seat: “Xiao Ran?”

Tang Ran recognized the voice and looked up in surprise: “Have you been here for a long time?”

“I just arrived.” Duan Qingyan opened the car door and helped Tang Ran out of the car. “I knocked on the door but no one answered. I thought you were asleep. I asked the security and found out that you went out. It’s New Year’s Day, what are you doing outside?”

Tang Ran smiled and said, “I got another friend to come and celebrate the New Year.”

“You picked up…someone?”

Duan Qingyan was stunned for a moment and looked towards the back seat of the car.

She didn’t dare look at the big guy in the driver’s seat – not long ago, when she first discovered that Tang Ran’s new driver was Lan Jingqian, she encountered a very familiar but relatively mild “threat”.

However, the back seat was empty at this time, without a single person.

In the biting cold wind, Duan Qingyan shivered violently, and turned her head with a stiff neck: “Xiao Xiao Xiao Ran, is your friend sitting in the back row… have you spoken to him before?”

Tang Ran felt that the hand supporting her was shaking slightly.

After being stunned for two seconds, she reacted and chuckled, “You misunderstood.” Tang Ran leaned towards the car, “Uncle, please open the door quickly, don’t let him get suffocated.”

Lan Jingqian raised his hand and pressed a button on the control panel.

The next second, the trembling Duan Qingyan froze in place——

The trunk door slowly opened.

After a rustling, the unruly young master of the Luo family crawled out of the trunk in a disheveled state.
