The roaring ambulance broke the peaceful and harmonious atmosphere of the community.

The ambulance drove in and stopped at the main road. The medical staff hurried down. Before they got close, they saw a girl running out of the bamboo forest in the distance with her clothes in disarray. Her eyes were red, and her face was bloodless and pale. It seemed that she had suffered something extremely terrible. She gritted her teeth and ran forward without saying a word, not even caring that one of her feet was not wearing shoes.

Behind her, a boy chased after her from a distance.

A passerby saw this and thought that the girl had encountered something. He approached her to ask if she needed help, but she suddenly screamed, stopped in her tracks, and backed away screaming, “Get out of here, all of you!”

Unsure of what was going on, the residents gathered around the noise. Someone asked kindly, “What happened? Don’t be afraid. Do you want me to call the police?”

“Yeah, calm down first, we’ll help you stop the guy.”

When some people saw the man behind them catching up breathlessly, they spontaneously formed a circle and protected the girl behind them.

The enthusiastic residents all looked at the girl with concern, but her expression became more and more terrified. Her beautiful almond eyes bulged out, her eyeballs were about to break through the limit and jump out of her eye sockets, her bloodless lips kept trembling, and she couldn’t even utter a complete sentence.

Someone vaguely realized that something was wrong with her condition and asked tentatively: “Do you need me to call an ambulance for you?”

This sentence was like the last straw that broke the camel’s back. The girl suddenly squatted down, hugged her head and hid her face, and screamed hysterically: “Get out! Don’t look at me! Don’t look at me! All of you get out!”

Everyone looked at her in astonishment. Those who reacted subconsciously took a step back, looking shocked and confused.

The boy who was chasing had already caught up with her. He pushed through the stunned crowd and wanted to go forward to comfort her, but he hesitated because his previous attempts had all backfired.

Just then the doctor arrived, and the boy waved and called out, “Here, here, I was the one who called.”

The girl’s hysterical screams continued. The high-decibel screams of fear irritated everyone’s eardrums. The doctor came forward to check on her condition but was pushed away by the girl in fear. Her eyes were filled with determination, and she looked at the doctor and the people around her as if they were enemies of life and death.

The doctor asked the boy about the situation, and the boy could only give a general account of the previous situation.

When the residents who were watching heard that someone had suddenly gone crazy, their expressions changed. Someone who was well-informed said, “Is this the third one? Can mental illness be contagious?”

“Isn’t it the second one? Besides the one this morning, who else has fallen ill?” someone asked in confusion.

“It’s a household in Building 10. It seems that he got sick in the hospital while visiting a psychiatrist. He also hurt someone. I heard that his parents are trying to get a mental evaluation to exempt him from responsibility.”

The residents exchanged the information they knew with each other, and their expressions inevitably became a little horrified.

It was really weird and scary that a good person suddenly went crazy.

While they were talking, the doctors had already held the girl down by force, and quickly gave the manic girl an injection of tranquilizer, then carried her into the ambulance. The tired-looking boy followed, and the ambulance left as quickly as it had arrived.

The remaining residents were left to guess why these people suddenly fell ill.

….

In order to make the excuse more credible, Jiang Lan actually made an appointment with Xiao Xiaoyu, Xue Meng and Zhang Tianxing to have barbecue together after work.

Xiao Xiaoyu originally wanted to go back to her parents’ house to catch up on some sleep, but Xue Meng saw that she looked depressed, so he pulled her out to relax. Xiao Xiaoyu thought about it, because she hadn’t slept well, she had been in a bad mood these days, so it was better to go out for a barbecue and have some wine to relax, and then go back to her parents’ house to have a good rest, rather than being alone.

The four of them found a nearby barbecue restaurant, then they drank and ate skewers from dusk until nightfall.

After eating and drinking, the other three went back home, while Jiang Lan looked up the route and took a bus to Hongyi Community.

As soon as he got off the bus at the platform opposite the community, Jiang Lan saw an ambulance coming out of the community, turning onto the main road and heading towards the hospital.

Jiang Lan’s eyelids jumped, and he quickly crossed the road and walked into the community, where he heard people discussing the ambulance that had just left.

“Another one has gone crazy. Isn’t this a bit weird?”

“Only three, that’s not too many, right? Maybe life is stressful right now.”

“Then you haven’t heard about the two people who suddenly became ill before. They didn’t have a history of mental illness in their families. They were fine and suddenly went crazy. The girl who was just taken away ran out of the bamboo forest. She probably went there late at night to seek excitement. She rushed out like a madman, and her boyfriend was desperately chasing after her.”

“It’s a bit strange to say. I haven’t been sleeping well these past few days. I either have nightmares or can’t sleep all night. Sometimes I even feel like someone is staring at me…”

“F**k, you have this feeling too? I thought I was hallucinating because of lack of sleep…”

The people discussing the gossip felt that the matter was becoming more and more weird. They looked at each other, and the timid ones rubbed the goosebumps on their arms and hurried back home.

Jiang Lan listened to it carefully and felt that he had made the right decision this time.

He walked slowly along the green path of the community, carefully observing the atmosphere around him.

At this time, most residents in the community had not yet gone to bed. Lights were shining through the windows of the apartment buildings, and faint voices could be heard, creating another kind of bustle unique to the night.

There were more than a dozen apartment buildings in the community. Jiang Lan walked past them one by one and finally stopped in front of Building 13.

Building 13 also had lights on in every house, and occasionally there were sounds of cats and dogs barking. At first glance, it seemed to be no different from other buildings. Only after careful observation will you find that other buildings were noisy and full of people. All the excitement was hidden in the quiet night, but if you observe and listen carefully, you can understand the excitement.

Only in Building 13, the lights were on, pets were barking, and there was even the sound of television and music coming from somewhere unknown. It looked lively, but in fact there was no human presence at all. Under the false liveliness, there was silence and dead stillness.

Jiang Lan looked up and saw a tall building standing tall. The night enveloped it, casting large, mottled shadows on the khaki building.

A piece of fine gray down feather floated down slowly, landed on the tip of Jiang Lan’s nose, and then disappeared.

Jiang Lan wrinkled his nose, reached out and touched the tip of his nose, and his eyes narrowed slightly.

He smelled a familiar scent.

He walked into Building 13, got on the elevator, and pressed the button for the top floor.
