In the deep night when the bright moon was staring at him quietly and a pair of wings of light spread out behind Anos, the mayor of Larry Town no longer had any doubt that he had been redeemed by an angel.

He knelt before the Son of God, who was as holy and pure as an angel, and confessed his sins in tears.

Anos lowered his eyes and looked at the mayor, waiting quietly for him to finish his confession before he spoke: “God said, be merciful.”

The mayor raised his head and looked at Anos hopefully.

Anos remembered Luo Mi’s instructions and did not respond to the mayor immediately. Instead, he said in a vague voice: “Those with bloody hands will be tortured in purgatory and will not be saved in their lifetime.”

The mayor’s eyes froze, and he said in a panic, “My Lord Angel, I have never killed anyone!”

Anos looked down at him and said nothing.

“That, that’s all to expel the devil for God, so the witches had to be burned to death…” The mayor’s voice became smaller and smaller. It was obvious that he knew that many, or even all, of the people he burned to death were innocent civilians.

Following Luo Mi’s instructions, Anos sighed deeply, and the light wings behind him danced gently, as if he was about to fly away.

Just at this moment, the roar and laughter of the devil were heard from the manor which seemed to have started burning.

The mayor looked back and saw the flames rising from the manor. Thinking of his wife and children, he rushed forward and hugged the angel’s legs, wailing: “Angel! Angel! I was wrong! I will do anything to make up for it! Please don’t abandon me!”

Anos calmly watched the mayor wipe his tears and snot on his clean priest’s robe, and the holy expression on his face slowly disappeared.

He said expressionlessly: “How can you repent to make up for the lives lost in vain?”

The mayor froze, feeling the increasing heat on his back. He thought desperately and finally grasped a life-saving straw: “No, I didn’t want to burn the witches to death! Lord Count Sheen asked me to do this!”

Anos said nothing.

The mayor spoke faster and detailed how the Lord of Reed County had instructed him to hold witch trials in the town, thereby arousing the common people’s fear and rejection of the Church.

Anos listened quietly, and finally asked: “Where is the evidence?”

The mayor hesitated twice and pointed to the burning manor behind him: “The earl’s telegram is in the manor, but now I’m afraid…”

Anos gently raised the cross, and a ray of holy light flew out and landed in the mayor’s manor which was burning with flames.

A devil screamed miserably in the manor: “It’s actually… an angel walking on the earth! Damn it! Just wait! You won’t stay here forever, sooner or later I will… ahhhh!”

A huge demon shadow appeared above the manor and slowly dissipated with angry roars!

Hearing this passionate and full roar, Anos couldn’t help but twitch the corners of his lips slightly, and then quickly smoothed them out.

The mayor was stunned when he saw with his own eyes how the “angel” solved the devil so easily.

Anos said: “Now you can go get the evidence.”

The mayor stood up timidly and walked into the manor cautiously, looking back every two steps to make sure that the beautiful angel was still outside.

Inside the manor, all the servants, maids, and housekeepers were lying unconscious, and the walls were covered with marks left by fire.

The mayor’s slight hope was immediately extinguished, and he hurried to his bedroom to look for the relevant documents.

….

Luo Mi appeared beside Anos, wagging his tail proudly: “How about it, my acting is pretty good, right?”

Anos stroked his head gently: “Not bad.”

“It’s also thanks to the special effects of His Royal Highness the Son of God.” Luo Mi had indulged in the drama to the fullest. While recalling the feeling of shame and devotion, he reflected on where his performance could have been better.

When he looked up by chance, Luo Mi saw that Anos’ face was covered with undisguised hesitation and confusion.

“Anos? What’s wrong? Are you not happy about getting the evidence?”

Anos whispered, “I just think…is this a really appropriate way of deception?”

Luo Mi thought that the opportunity had finally come.

He said seriously, “Of course it’s appropriate! Think about it, if you came directly as the Holy Son of the Church, the mayor will be respectful to you on the surface, but in fact he will definitely disobey you. After all, his promotion has nothing to do with the Church, it is all due to the lord. It is precisely because of various conflicts of interest that the tragedy of the Witch Trial occurred… In order to solve these problems, use of some means is inevitable.”

Anos was not convinced by this. He just looked up at the night sky quietly. After a moment, he said, “Can the result obtained in this way be worthy of the glory God has given me?”

Luo Mi smiled and looked at Anos sincerely: “It depends on whether His Highness the Holy Son thinks it is more important to save suffering souls or to follow the rules in the Bible.”

Anos’s eyes changed twice and then he fell silent.

….

The telegram handed over by the mayor contained all the records of the correspondence with Count Sheen, which were enough to accuse Count Sheen of murdering the people in the territory, violating God’s teachings, and being unfit to be a respected lord.

Of course, “shaking the faith of the Holy See” was not suitable as a charge.

As a witness, the mayor of Larry Town was also taken to the regional inquisition by the Silver Knights.

The fat man wanted to refuse, but Anos took out a light grey cylindrical object and said, “This recorder records everything you said to me at that time.”

Luo Mi, who was standing aside: “…”

Wow, there are even recorders. The technology tree of this world is really crooked.

The mayor knew that his “betrayal” of Count Sheen was inevitable, and that the only way to avoid being retaliated by Count Sheen was to cling to the thigh of the Holy See. So he confessed all the details honestly and signed a letter of authorization to “temporarily hand over the affairs of Larry Town to the Holy See.”

Father Robin Valarie, as the only clergyman in the town of Larry, should have taken over this responsibility, but Anos was quite dissatisfied with the cowardice shown by Father Robin in the whole incident, so he left two silver knights as his deputies.

During this time, Luo Mi had gained a general understanding of the organization of the Church. The Silver Knights, also known as the Knights Templar, were the most powerful and pious military force in the Church and were completely controlled by the secular pope. As the Holy Son of the Church, Anos also had a group of Silver Knights under his command.

These Silver Knights were all young men of clean backgrounds and strong abilities. They must first study in a monastery before joining the Knights Templar. Their knowledge and vision were better than those of ordinary mayors, so managing a small town like this was not a problem for them.

Anos went to the warehouse personally and released Vivian Moon.

The girl threw herself into the arms of old Moon, who had just woken up from serious injuries, and cried her heart out.

After taking over the town of Larry, the Silver Knights unceremoniously confiscated all the property of the mayor, sheriff, tax collector and other relevant personnel, and distributed most of it to the families of the innocent women who died in the Witch Trials.

Unfortunately, many of the victims were orphans or widows themselves, or their only remaining family members had moved away due to the town’s rejection.

The mayor was very cunning when conducting the witch trials, and he would not touch anyone with connections or many relatives, but only vulnerable families like the Moon family.

Just like the concept of “Witch Trial” itself avoided men who were more likely to resist and chose relatively weaker women.

Of course, not only their property was lost, those people would also face double punishment from both the Inquisition and imperial law.

….

It was a week later that Anos finished dealing with all these things.

After he signed the escort order for the mayor and others, he suddenly remembered that he seemed to have not seen Luo Mi for a few days.

Anos turned his head and asked the Silver Knight beside him: “Have you seen Lian?”

The knight was confused: “Who is Lian?”

“The demon that followed me around the other day.”

“Oh, him.” The knight couldn’t help but show a trace of shyness on his face, “He has been getting along well with the townspeople these days.”

Anos did not miss the subtle blush on the knight’s face, and stared at him intently: “Why are you blushing?”

“Ah? No!” The knight rubbed his face and straightened his expression. “It’s just that Lord Lian taught us something.”

“Lord?”

Anos chewed on the title silently.

If he remembered correctly, when the little devil had just joined, most of the Knights Templar were resistant and disgusted by him and had protested to him privately several times.

It had only been a few days, why are they calling him “Lord” now?

Anos frowned and stood up: “I’ll go find him.”

….

Anos found Luo Mi among a group of women carrying vegetable baskets.

Luo Mi sat among the women with a lantern in front of him, and danced with his hands as he told the story of “hunting with grandpa in the snowy mountains late at night”. The women who grew up in the hilly areas were stunned. When they heard that Luo Mi washed his wounds with snow water after being injured, several kind-hearted women wiped away their tears.

If Anos had not used magic to cover Luo Mi’s tail, wings and horns, his tail would probably be shaking at a high frequency by now.

Anos looked at the high-spirited Luo Mi, and suddenly a strange feeling arose in his heart.

The image of the devil in the light realm was either cold and sinister or despicable and cowardly. No one had ever seen someone as energetic and confident as Luo Mi, who seemed like a child who grew up in the sun.

More importantly, his eyes were very pure, without calculation or desire. Even when he was hiding something, his eyes were frank and pure.

This was also the reason why Anos was willing to keep him by his side.

Finally, Luo Mi changed the subject and patted the lantern in front of him: “Thanks to the Holy Light Lantern awarded to my grandfather by the Vatican, it can glow without fuel and guide my grandfather to carry me out.”

One of the women looked at the lantern and exclaimed, “I’ve heard from the priest before that in larger churches there are lamps that don’t require candles. They are stable and bright, but only people in the Vatican can use them.”

“After all, it needs to be filled with the power of holy light. If we can invent a holy light battery in the future…”

Luo Mi fell into deep thought when he said this, and suddenly clapped his hands, “I think this is a good idea!”

He said to the system in his mind, “The Church has developed so many technologies using holy light instead of electricity, but isn’t it a waste to only use it within the Church? If there were holy light batteries, holy light power stations, etc., wouldn’t it be possible to popularize technology to everyone?”

[Host, do you still remember what your mission is?]

“I remember, I remember.” Luo Mi said perfunctorily, clenching his fist seriously, “But maybe our real mission is to do infrastructure construction?”

[…]

Luo Mi turned around and saw Anos standing nearby. He quickly said goodbye to the women who were listening to his story and jumped to Anos’ side: “Why are you here?”

Anos curved his lips and said, “I heard that you’ve been getting along well with the townspeople and my knights recently, so I came to see you.”

Luo Mi, who was a half-hero on Earth, waved his hand modestly: “It’s just so-so.”

Seeing the beautiful but distant Son of God appeared in the church, the people who had gathered together to listen to Luo Mi’s story bowed to Anos and quickly walked away.

Anos noticed the fear in their eyes and sighed slightly inwardly.

Even though the mayor was dealt with, more than a year of witch trials still made the common people resist the Vatican.

He turned his attention back to Luo Mi: “I’m a little curious, how did you make my knights change their attitude towards you so quickly?”

Luo Mi laughed, “Relying on my experience over the years.”

Anos raised his eyebrows imperceptibly: “What experience?”

“Exam-oriented education.” Luo Mi sighed proudly, “If you are not convinced, come and do a set of papers I made to see if their understanding of the sacred text is as deep as a demon like me!”
