There was a nursing home behind the school, which was said to be the oldest nursing home in R city. There were many elderly teachers living there.

May happened to be the end of spring and the beginning of summer, and the weather was just right. The school said that students could organize a trip to “visit the old teachers.”

For the safety of students, the school would no longer organize large-scale group activities this year. If something happened, the school could not bear this responsibility. So the monitor took a statistical table to count the students who were going to participate in the “Condolences to Old Teachers” activity.

Jiang Sui was originally hesitant about whether to go or not. She had short legs, but instead of offering condolences, others gave her a lift.

Seeing her hesitation, Chen Shujun hugged her arm: “Go, let’s go! Anyway, it’s Sunday, so let’s go play, and the old teachers are very elegant, let’s go talk to them!”

Jiang Sui smiled and nodded, and finally agreed.

When they set off, they found that there were not many people there. A quick look revealed that there were only about twenty people in total. Jiang Sui carried the bananas and apples she bought with her pocket money, and followed Chen Chu, the class monitor. Most of the children were only twelve or thirteen years old, walking to the nursing home while talking and laughing.

The spring weather was just right, the roadside was full of wildflowers, and the boys and girls were humming songs, full of vitality.

A black car drove over and passed them, throwing up a large cloud of dust.

The students covered their mouths and noses and waited for the dust to pass.

Someone whispered: “People driving on this road are so annoying, we are covered in dust now…”

Everyone agreed, and someone said: “It seems to be Duan Ling’s car from the third grade of junior high school.”

Sure enough, not long after, the students arrived at the nursing home and saw Chi Yan opening the door for Duan Ling.

Someone ridiculed: “She is really a feudal eldest lady coming with her loyal servant.”

When the summer wind blew, Chi Yan raised his head and looked over.

Jiang Sui’s eyes were warm and she was very happy that he was in good health.

His eyes paused imperceptibly on Jiang Sui then he pulled Duan Ling down.

It was sarcasm, but the little boy and girl couldn’t help but look over. Duan Ling wore stylish red leather shoes, white stockings, and a palace tutu.

If it was the later generations, she would have said to look a bit like “Lolita”, but unfortunately everything was ruined by her protruding forehead.

This outfit was exquisite but looked weird, and the students’ eyes turned bright.

Even Chen Chu said: “It’s so annoying. If we had known that Duan Ling was coming, we wouldn’t have come.”

Uncle Zhang and Chi Yan took out large and small packages of gifts from the trunk, and the classmates were stunned. Duan Ling stood aside as if she was on a catwalk, her chin slightly raised. The students were holding gifts, but they were made to look shabby by her, such that they felt a little at a loss.

The old teachers came out after hearing the sound and saw the children smiling.

They said kindly: “Come on, little classmates, come in and sit down. Do you want to drink water? Do you want to eat biscuits?”

Jiang Sui breathed a sigh of relief. She was really afraid that she would be the one watching Duan Ling’s performance today.

She put down her apples and bananas, and a seventy-year-old female retired teacher said kindly: “Thank you, little classmate.”

Jiang Sui shook her head and smiled: “Teacher, if you can’t bite the apple, you can use a spoon to scrape it into apple puree.”

“I know.” The old woman looked at her injured cheek with pity and smiled gently at her. “The teacher can see that you are very cute. What happened to the cheek?”

“I got sick when I was young and couldn’t walk unsteadily.”

The old woman said kindly: “When you get well, you will be the most beautiful girl.”

A shallow dimple appeared on Jiang Sui’s cheek.

The old woman touched her head: “I’m not coaxing you. I have met many people in my life. Your facial features are very beautiful.” Like the most brilliant peach blossoms in spring.

The sun was just right in the afternoon, so Chen Chu organized the classmates to clean up together. She knew that she couldn’t control the senior students in the second and third grades of junior high school, so she could only let the girls in the first grade of junior high school sweep the floor together.

Two little kittens staggered in, and finally squatted at Jiang Sui’s feet, nuzzling her affectionately.

Jiang Sui scratched their chins, and they closed their eyes and made a purring sound in their throats. Chen Shujun said, “Wow, so cute.”

Duan Ling, who was sitting on the side, was greedy and said to Chi Yan: “Go and ask for one.”

Chi Yan frowned.

When Duan Ling saw that he hadn’t moved for a long time, she got angry and said, “Didn’t you hear what I said? I want the white one!”

Chi Yan pursed his lips and finally walked to Jiang Sui. The kitten was close to Jiang Sui alone. When Jiang Sui was next to her, she wanted to turn over her belly and beg her to touch her.

Chi Yan knelt down in front of her, and the little cat was cast in a shadow by his figure. It said “meow” and wanted to crawl on Jiang Sui.

Chi Yan reached out and grabbed the white cat by the back of its neck.

Jiang Sui hugged it subconsciously.

The two looked at each other, Chi Yan’s dark eyes looking at her.

Jiang Sui and Chen Shujun heard Duan Ling’s words, and Chen Shujun also said nervously: “Jiang Sui, don’t give it to them.”

The cat licked Jiang Sui’s fingers, and Jiang Sui whispered: “I don’t want to give it to you.” She had seen Duan Ling and Lin Wenwen fighting and was afraid that Duan Ling would kill the kitten.

Chi Yan looked at her bright upturned peach blossom eyes, got up and went back.

Duan Ling was stunned: “What are you doing? Why didn’t you grab it!”

The last time she and Lin Wenwen fought, Lin Wenwen refused to return the mask, but Chi Yan snatched it back forcefully and coldly. At this moment, it was just a cat without an owner. If someone said they didn’t want to give it to him, should he just let it go?

Chi Yan pursed his lips and said, “I’ll buy one for you when I get back.”

“No, I want the one she has! If you don’t even have this ability, why are you staying at my Duan’s house!”

Chi Yan’s eyes turned cold for a moment. He didn’t say anything and turned to look for Jiang Sui.

He stretched out his hand to Jiang Sui: “Give it to me.”

When he said this, his tone was slightly cold, but he did not look at her in his eyes. He looked behind the little girl and looked at the grape trees in the yard.

Jiang Sui naturally knew his embarrassment, and the person in front of her seemed to overlap with the deserted Chi Yan a few years later.

She asked: “Duan Ling won’t hurt it, right?”

Chi Yan paused: “Yeah.”

Chen Shujun tugged on Jiang Sui’s sleeves. Jiang Sui hesitated and put the kitten into his arms. Chi Yan lowered his head and looked at the cat in his arms. It was fluffy, but it was still a small ball, and it seemed to still have the warmth of the little girl.

He held the cat and handed it to Duan Ling.

Chen Shujun was about to cry: “Jiang Sui, Jiang Sui, Jiang Sui!”

Jiang Sui pinched her cheek in a funny way: “Okay, don’t be angry. If he breaks his promise, I will be angry too.”

Chen Shujun angrily picked up the gray kitten at her feet and took Jiang Sui with her to talk to the old teacher.

However, when Jiang Sui washed her hands and was about to make dumplings with the old teachers, a scream came from the stone table.

“Ah! Dead cat, it scratched me!”

Jiang Sui looked up and saw Duan Ling throwing the cat out. The kitten’s head hit the stone bench, and its body twitched slightly.

The classmates were silent.

Even the old teachers frowned.

The kitten landed at Chi Yan’s feet. It was so soft in Jiang Sui’s arms just a moment ago.

Chi Yan froze.

She asked him if Duan Ling would hurt it and what did he say then.

He almost immediately looked back at Jiang Sui.

The little girl lowered her head, pinched the flour in her hands, and stopped looking at him.

Chen Shujun tugged on Jiang Sui’s sleeve: “Jiang Sui, are you angry?”

Jiang Sui nodded and whispered: “Liar.”
